IGN- Hands on with Playstation Now BETA

Sony was kind enough to let IGN try out the beta of their PlayStation Now streaming game service. As we’ve told you before, PlayStation now will let you stream a selection of PlayStation 3 games to your PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Vita systems, offering several pricing tiers depending the title, and the length of your rental period.

The story is too old to be commented.

"we have to say PlayStation Now is a promising new service from Sony that has serious potential."

I think it works well, image quality is good, and the lag isn't that bad. The only problem now is the pricing and they definitely need to fix that before launch. The ease of use is great but not worth the streaming drawbacks at the current prices and options.

They need to lower the prices and possibly making a Netflix like option and the possibility to buy the games.

I thought I read it somewhere that you need a 5MB/s speed(40Mbps) not 5Mbps.. well, ISP around me only provide max 3 Mbps so, yeah.

Gamble201306d ago (Edited 1306d ago )

@sobotz You heard wrong.

FungalPsychosis1306d ago

Luckily that isn't the case lol

It's just 5 Mbps. The more the better though

NexGen1306d ago

5Mb minimum, 12Mb+ recommended.

Vitalogy1306d ago

@NexGen I have a fiber optic connection with 100Mb/10Mb I should be fine right?

Agreed, renting a game from PSnow shpuld not cost more than buying the game, as it does in most cases.

Nick the troll,

It is a beta. Do you not get tired of coming into every positive PS thread and attempting to downplay a feature, particularly one like PSNow that will bulldoze anything the competitors have to offer. You must really be worried.

I am in the beta and it works great. Titles are very playable, even at this early stage. Unlimited option Sony. That is all I need.

@Kinjo,

That pricing is ridiculous. Think about it. You want to rent a game that may still cost $49 to $59 that may have 15 hours of play time in it for $2. Sony cannot possibly pay a fair amount to publishers for that cost. Not happening. People are being ridiculous if they think they should be able to rent all titles for next to nothing. There has to be a tiered system not only for length of rental but also for the game itself based on current retail value.

@morgan
First, unlike you, I own all 3 consoles this gen, so I read and comment on the things about those consoles that concern/interest me.

Second, since when is pointing out a reality trolling? I didn't say PSnow sucks, or anything bad about it at all.

Lastly, why are you so defensive about it? Does it personally effect you if someone does not love EVERY single aspect of PS4? I suggest you move on and get a life.
.
.
That all aside, PSNow is a great concept, they move to a more realistic pricing system I am on board. (Notice I said "**I** am on board as it is my opinion) If that is ok with you.

morganfell1306d ago

Sure you do buddy. No one believes that. You are in every PS thread you can find and its one negative remark after the other. Deeds > words. But in this case your deeds are words and they tell us the exact truth about you. No amount of dancing or claims will change that.

And here is a news flash for you. Buying all the consoles is not some grant to objectivity. It doesn't make you smart, superior, or balanced. So just hop down off that high horse and find yourself a nice and befitting hobby horse.

Then again, no one really believes you own a console you repeatedly demonstrate you hate. Don'tr bother with useless pics. Even a person like you has a friend with a PS4. Your actions are a better definer than any photo claim.

KinjoTakemura1306d ago

It should be 2 bucks to rent for 3 days and 5 for 7 days. 8 to 10 bucks to buy, depending on how old the game is.

dragon821306d ago

The price to buy should just be the current price of that game on the PS Store.

If Sony stays with the current pricing model, they'll lose money because no one is going to pay 3 dollars to rent a game for 1 day. No one is going to pay 5 for a 3 day rental. And I can assure you that no one is dumb enough to pay for a 30 day rental when most games can be finished in a week or less.

e-p-ayeaH1306d ago (Edited 1306d ago )

Ps plus should give the option to select 2 games per month.

AllAboutGaming1306d ago

I was really hoping that they's adopt a Netflix subscription model. The prices they listed (yes, I know they are set by the publishers) are CRAZY! I went from excitedly curious to "Nope." is a few seconds after I read the pricing.

pwnsause_returns1306d ago

Netflix subscription model at a reasonable price (about 15$/month) would make this thing take off. Their current model in the beta is pretty trash.
