Miyazaki: Sony Wanted Something New; I'm Having A Ton Of Fun With Bloodborne

Miyazaki explains that Sony wanted something new instead of Demon's Souls 2; he also adds that he's having a lot of fun with Bloodborne. (Bloodborne, Hidetaka Miyazaki, PS4)

It's a really good idea. Personally I hope the game departs quite a bit from Demon/Dark Souls, I'm not the biggest fan of those games.
SolidGear3  +   337d ago
I just hope it's not as difficult. Maybe along the same lines as The Last of Us as far as the survival aspects and everything.
abzdiine  +   337d ago
PlayStation is all about variety and this just one more proof of it

"Personally I hope the game departs quite a bit from Demon/Dark Souls"

It's not going to be that different. Aside from having no shield, no magic and being more challenging. Which is great, in my opinion.

Anyone getting excited thinking this is going to be a different/easier experience than the souls series, needs to revaluate. I can tell you just from watching the leaked trailer, it's made to punish players (like myself) who got to good at the previous games.
odderz  +   337d ago
Sony is making the right choices.
rdgneoz3  +   337d ago
@NextLevel Yep, the game is going to be just as punishing, if not more. In the souls series you could play defensive, wait for the enemy to attack and react. This one seems to make you have to go on the offensive from the start, trying to avoid getting destroyed while not having a shield to save your hide.
AKS  +   337d ago
I wonder if the offensively oriented dual wielders of Dark Souls 2 will have an easier time adapting to Bloodborne. I may put some more time into trying a more aggressive style and see how it goes. I do some 2-handing, but I also like to have a good shield for some circumstances.
UltraNova  +   337d ago
Why make another Demon Souls when you have that need already covered with the Dark Souls series? Its a 100% sure thing we'll see DS 3 on next gen consoles! This way they avoid sales polarization from one IP to the other and keeping things fresh at the same time.

Very smart move from Sony-From.

I for one can't wait, this game will have the best of demon souls and dark souls series plus new features

2015 is gonna be huge 1st/2nd party wise for sony:

Bloodborne
the order 1886
Uncharted 4
Ratchet and clank remake

i am sure we will get more announcements at gamescom and tgs

I might be the minority, but I would have rather saw Miyazaki make a Demons Souls 2 rather than a new IP. I love Demons Souls
kaiserfranz  +   337d ago
Demon's Souls 2 wouldn't have made much such sense, honestly, since Dark Souls is practically the same thing. Bloodborne looks interesting although it's still very similar, I would have preferred something more like Otogi
Festano  +   337d ago
I agree, it would be nice to see a game similar to Otogi.
DragonKnight  +   337d ago
Dark Souls is not the same thing. Lol.

Ignorance like that is what makes me ask if you played Demon's Souls at all.
rdgneoz3  +   337d ago
Dark Souls was the spiritual successor to Demon's Souls. They couldn't put Demon's Souls 2 on the 360, because Sony helped with the first one.

From wiki: "developed primarily by From Software with assistance from SCE Japan Studio exclusively for the PlayStation 3. It was released in Japan on February 5, 2009 and published by Sony Computer Entertainment"

Demons was separated into levels, while dark was more open world. Both required similar strategy for mobs / bosses - don't rush or you'll get brutally punished. That punishment has been consistent over time, rush and you die. They both also had a form of online integration (notes, invasions, co-op help), though it has changed over time with the series. Both also had the living and hollow form, used souls for currency to level / improve gear, similar crafting / gear improvement system, similar character models, combat mechanics, ...

Though Demon's Souls world tendency was interesting.

You don't need to explain Demon's Souls to me, I've owned it since launch.

I misworded my post though. I meant to say not 'exactly' the same. They were very similar, but there are some key differences.
dudeOplenty  +   337d ago
"It's nice to meet you." "We've meet before." "Ah, that's right. I meant it was nice to meet you that time that I met you."

Nice save.
Demon's Souls is nothing like the crappy cash-in spinoff they made of it (dark souls). I'd rather have Demon's Souls 2 over a couple of crappy spinoffs. dark souls didn't need a sequel anyway as even the story to the game was trash.

Sony has made a good cooperation, I am sure something good comes out.

Deep down and this. Sony are kinda returning to it's roots in Japan. Good Ol'e RPG's
Imalwaysright  +   337d ago
When I think of the PS roots I think of the traditional turn based JPRPGs but yeah the more RPGs the better.
Subaruwrx  +   337d ago
I like well made turned based rpgs like you find in the Shin Megami Tensei series - they give you the chance to think before you play and be strategic. But I like rpgs and even games like AC4 and Watchdogs that have rpg game elements in them in general.
q8kik  +   337d ago
naah man Pepsi Man is the root !
kaiserfranz  +   337d ago
If only Deep Down would come to the West... No confirmation yet.
Darkstares  +   337d ago
I'm hoping the Japan gamers finally start to support consoles more now that the PS4 looks to be a huge success. They still make great games but if the install base isn't very big then they start making games aimed more at the Western culture which to me isn't always a good idea. Demon's Souls was one of the best games last generation and this could be a much bigger game for them.
Subaruwrx  +   337d ago
This game should help improve PS4 sales in Japan and perhaps in other regions as well. The sooner 3rd party Japanese developers start producing games for current gen consoles the better. This is off topic but, I'm a big fan of Jrpgs so, hopefully Sony will get some Jrpg's on board in the next couple of years as well. I'd love to see new core Shin Megami Tensei, Tales and Dragon Quest games. Too bad Persona 5 isn't coming to the PS4. I'll be picking it up for my PS3 but would have preferred to play it on my PS4.
kaiserfranz  +   337d ago
Thing is, JRPGs aren't that popular outside of Japan, unlike RPGs such as the Souls franchise. The latter kind is a better investment for Sony as it's important worldwide.
LightDiego  +   337d ago
Sony exclusives for the win.
kaiserfranz  +   337d ago
They're great indeed, although they're coming slower than I'd like. Let's hope to see something from Sony Santa Monica soon!

Loving those Sony exclusives so glad that Sony and From could make another exclusive. Can't wait to put this next to Demon Souls. Sony Goodness
Inception  +   337d ago
This is one of the reason why i respect sony. They always seen eager to make new IP's. I mean, Demon's Souls is sony IP, sold very well, and it even has two spiritual successor. The most logic decision for sony is to make Demon's Souls 2 for PS4. But they choose a different route and make a new IP, considering new IP had a big risk compare to established IP.
Mister_G  +   337d ago
I played Dark Souls for months and months, it was like crack, I couldn't get enough of it.

But now I'm ready for something different, so hopefully Bloodborne will be my next addiction :)
