Female Avatars Are “A lot of extra production work.”

Amber writes: "By now I would imagine that many of you, if not all of you, have heard about the remarks made by Assassin’s Creed Unity’s creative director Alex Amancio in a recent interview with Polygon. He explained that at an earlier stage in the games’ development that female avatars were included, but due to “the reality of production” they were cut completely."

Lol pretty much. They have legions (no seriously, actual legions) of programmers and artist but female avatars are beyond the realm of the their ability to fabricate?

fluxmulder1645d ago

Yeah. 9000+ employees worldwide, and they couldn't shift some resources over to make female characters for MP. Give me a break.

DeadlyFire1645d ago

Funny how some devs fit them in their titles everytime.

BigBosss1645d ago

That's just not nice Ubisoft

Kenshin_BATT0USAI1645d ago

Why does it matter? I think forcing a female protagonist is far worse than not having one at all.

Exies71645d ago

Try to look at it from another perspective. With more than just middle class white males gaming, wouldn't it be nicer if more companies allowed players to innately resonate and relate to different aspects of game play through simple features, such as gender selection?

i play games to experience the world the developer has laid out for me to play, its a little disturbing how people want to control how companies make games and tell their stories. it seems that people have become so entitled these days that they turn something as un serious as a video game into a big debate about sexual inequality in videos games, shame on ubisoft for not wanting to spend extra time/ money just to appease a minority when the ideal of any sold product is to satisfy the majority i love how the article says it would only take 2 days to code like there are no such things as deadlines two days to code means two days away from there primary task wich is now 4 wasted days

"it seems that people have become so entitled these days that they turn something as un serious as a video game into a big debate about sexual inequality in videos games"

Or game companies have become so lazy and unimaginative, so privileged, that they don't think that they have to bother changing things once they've found a market.

It also doesn't help their case that in two past games in the series there were female characters.

hazelamy1645d ago

well what else would you talk about but video games to discuss sexual inequality in video games?

corvusmd1645d ago

So...would you say they are "high maintenance"? So in a way...

Maybe they just don't see females as assassin's jumping from roof to roof. I know I would be more surprised if I saw a girl doing parkour in the streets than a guy. Some things just don't happen in real life.

Imalwaysright1645d ago (Edited 1645d ago )

Have you ever watched female gymnasts in the Olympics? What makes you think that women can't do free running like men do?

F4sterTh4nFTL1645d ago

They can do this stuff as well as boys if they wanted to but that does not mean they are crazy enough to try risky stuff like boys are inclined to do. Maybe it is just me but I would imagine that a Olympic gymnast and a dual-blade wielding assassin are very different to each other.

Imalwaysright1645d ago (Edited 1645d ago )

Yes because there are many men wielding blades chopping heads off around the world for the fun of it, right? You said "realistic" so I adressed the only realistic part of your comment which was the free running, something that women are just as capable to do as men are.

Porcelain_Chicken1645d ago

Wait, so what you are telling us is that you believe one human being can jump across from surface to another but another human being cannot and the only hindering factor is ones gender?!? Wow seriously? I honestly cannot tell if you're serious or not. If you are HA... HA /s. If you aren't than... just wow.
