When Should We Nix Old Systems?

This is a world of advancing technology, and the new-generation consoles are simply a couple examples of this. As time has gone on, new technologies have phased out the old ones to the point where they are no longer relevant. How long should players hold onto buying new games for last generation consoles that are still being developed for; the PS3 and 360?

GTA v was my last game..

I stop playing old hardware the minute I upgrade.. Always have

SpinalRemains1381642d ago

That's tough though. The old hardware has such a huge base that devs still make for them. So much money to lose if they don't.

There was no way I was going to miss Walking Dead, Castlevania and Dark Souls II.

Just no way.

I wasn't referring to development.. Its asking when should players ditch old systems..

I personally hate going backwards.. It actually ruins the memory of a game sometimes.. But they should keep making games for them as long as its customers are still there..

But I'd like to see more dedicated development as well.. I hate thinking my game is held back because of that old hardware. Having another studio work on the last gen port seems to help a bit

I answered that way because the two are linked.

I was trying to say that one cannot just ditch the old when the new comes along due to development. They're linked.

I traded in my 360 for a Wii U, but I loved that console.

* My last game for it was AC4 and I loved nearly every minuted of it. It was a nice way too go out and I'll always remember it.

* The thing about last gen, is that most of the games were/are reliant upon online communities that no longer exist, so therefore the game really doesn't exist or can't exist as it once did.

* Before last gen, in the ones previous, games were still mainly single player games, and that is why we can still go back and play them and they play well and contain a ton of content because they are self contained and aren't reliant upon needing other people in other locations to play with.

^ Hopefully the industry notices this and makes adjustments for this new gen.

My PS3 is only warming up with Persona 5, Tales of Xilia 2 and other sweet candies coming soon!

hello121642d ago

2016, hopefully. Dev's need to stop bringing games out for the 360 and PS3.

thorstein1642d ago

Hard to do when your install base is 80+ million per console.

Yes, I want the games for the new hardware but with a total console sales in the 20 million range, the market is smaller.

It is simply a numbers game right now.

All the games I've bought since PS4 came out have been for PS4... But I still have my PS3 cause I have lots of great games for it, and PSPlus is giving me free games on it every month.
I know people who are just now getting PS3 or 360 and hey they can get them cheap, they have tons of games they can get cheap, and they will get a PS4 or XB1 when PS5 and NextBox comes out.

I also know a few people that have every game system they ever owned(collectors) going way back to Atari 2600

PS3 have more upcoming games that interest me than PS4 in 2014 and 2015 so I'll be holding on to my PS3

DanteVFenris6661642d ago

Like what? Like Multiplates that'll perform way better on the ps4. Or there is lbp3 but that's also on ps4. So no real exclusives coming to ps3 anymore. Let's drop it and get this generation started

KonsoruMasuta1642d ago (Edited 1642d ago )

Not really.

Persona 5 is coming out later this year on PS3. I'm getting that.
I've also been busy with Draken Gard.

The PS3 is getting more Japanese support than the PS4 at the moment. Since that is what matters to me the most, I'm hanging on to my PS3.

Baka-akaB1642d ago (Edited 1642d ago )

That's a bold assumption . Not everyone solely care about open world and fps games wich are the most affected and prone to switch to next gen .

There are upcoming exclusives jrpg and fighting games coming on ps3 . And quite a few games from japan still in the process of being localized .

There is no such thing as a previous generation of console just going away abruptly ... well at least for the PS consoles

DualWielding1642d ago

Persona 5, Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix, Tales of Xillia 2, Tales of Zestiria, Fairy Fencer F, Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory 2 (all PS3 exclusives)

yokokoroma1642d ago

@Baka-akaB Well said, the greatest thing the PS4 currently lacks is Japanese support.

In regards to the topic itself, for PS gamers...previous iterations of the consoles never get old. Each iterations library of games make them timeless.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi1642d ago

That's a good question. Honestly, I'd like to put my ps3 down, but the KH 2.5 Hd collection comes out this year. And I enjoy Ace Combat Infinity.
