If we ever cancel The Last Guardian we'll tell you, Sony's Yoshida promises

Polygon :

"It's not just the long wait that drives these rumors, the game has run into some significant issues, including the departure of producer Fumito Ueda as a full-time employee at Sony. He does remain on the project as a consultant, but the story of the game's creation remains deeply hidden.

So when I wrapped up my interview with Sony worldwide studios head Shuhei Yoshida with one more question, Yoshida knew what was coming.

"It exists. The team is working hard on it," he intoned almost rhythmically. "I was heartbroken when some article came out on some major site saying it was canceled."

Launch title? You're dreaming bro. Maybe near the end of the PS5 lifespan.. ;)

Marcello1497d ago (Edited 1497d ago )

Crikey !! if it ever ?? EVER !! what about if it EVER gets a release date ??? 8 years in development. This game is close to getting into the top 5 biggest gaming travesties EVER !!

I wish Sony would just throw us some kind of bone on this game, everyone fell in love with that announcement trailer & now we`ve been left hanging for 5 years without anything solid.

Septic1497d ago (Edited 1497d ago )

At this stage I wouldn't be as worried about whether it will be released or not but whether it'll actually be a decent game if it does get released.

Games stuck in development hell for so long tend to suffer in terms of quality. Duke Nukem Forever Forever is one example.

I reckon the game development has switched to PS4 which would make a lot of sense.

shuuwai1497d ago

It's a Duke nukem again,

The game was work on the PS3.
Last year they start from the beginning again with PS4 kit.

I hope its not a Starcraft NOVA. heh. or Titan.

The game will be out earlier too mid of 2016, Yes, 2015 at E3 they will tell gamers when it hits the stores in a in-game trailer with 1080p video @60fps.

That's only reason they didn't show anything, if they did it would be from the PS3, and not the PS4. -_-

Kenshin_BATT0USAI1497d ago

First party studio. They had dev kits for well over 3 years now.

colonel1791497d ago

There's no doubt that the game is for PS4 now. Japan Studio probably were one of the first to have Dev Kits in 2009.

shuuwai1497d ago

Update
I think they moved their work on ps3 too ps4 at the time when that guy who left and he'll freelancing with that project. That's when everything started too fell apart.

I know this is OT but what happened to wardevil. That game look like it was going to be good. At least we saw footage of it unlike agent

Hellsvacancy1497d ago

Well that's, kinda reassuring

Timesplitter141497d ago (Edited 1497d ago )

cool to see that at least Yoshida is aware of the situation. He's aware that people would die for this game

UltraNova1497d ago

I hope people are also aware that I'm trying to forget the damn game all together so when it (if) finally gets released I can maybe find a glimpse of excitement to go out and buy it..

sinncross1497d ago

Well its true. When 8 days was cancelled, Sony announced it. They did the same for The Getaway and Warriors Lair.

They will do the same for TLG if it chosen to be cancelled. Until then, it is still in development.

Inception1497d ago

True. If we're looking at sony histories, when they already officially announced some games but later they canceled it than they will officially tell the media. Just like they did with 8 Days, The Getaway 3, or Warriors Lair.

Beside, sony already spent a lot of money & time for the project. It's obvious they want to see the money back + with some profit. If they just canceled the game than it doesn't go well for them, investors, or fans who still loyally wait for TLG.

Btw, cmiiw, Blizzard began to developed Diablo III from 2001 right? Eleven years later / in 2012 they released the game. Even though i hope TLG developement will not as long as Diablo III, but i can put high hope that sony will make the fans got their hands on TLG.

styferion1497d ago

IGN how could you broke his heart like that :(

GameDev11497d ago

Pretty sure Yoshida is at the point of tired and pissed about having to reconfirm The Last Guardian is still in development to every single interviewer.

I never played Shadow of Colossus, but I wonder why they are so many questions about this specific game??

Timesplitter141497d ago (Edited 1497d ago )

because play Shadow of the Colossus

Inception1497d ago

You need to play SotC + ICO ASAP!

MysticStrummer1496d ago

I don't buy many HD remasters, but the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus collection is a more than worthy purchase imo.

Ico was actually a PS1 game that moved to PS2, so this team has a history of changing generations. Their ambition may have outweighed PS3's tech. I won't give up on this game until it's officially dead.

Moe-Gunz1496d ago

SotC is one of the best games ever created. I played it late and was surprised a game with that amount of scale was a PS2 title. Beauty, strategy, action, exploration, etc. It's all in this game.
