I agree with this. But MS pre E3 announcements and cg trailers at E3 should be C+ at best.

ThePope3606d ago

Microsoft had a very straight forward message. Here are the games you're going to be able to play this year, here's the great indies coming soon, and here's what's coming in 2015. Few words were said, as they had to many games to show. A-

Sony on the other hand bounced all over the place, showed lots of GC trailers and used misleading phrases like "console debut" which was not used to highlight the fact that its coming to PS first but rather to make the average bear think its only available for PS. On top of that they did the unthinkable; they talked about TV. This site for over a year has bashed TV up and down and now its ok? B-

Kevlar0093606d ago

I cringed a little at the lengthy "Powers" segment. I was thinking "just about nobody cares, where's the stuff we care about". Not a lot of exclusive games, a little too long. I thought it was good when I first saw it but looking back it could've been better planned

davidj883606d ago

@ThePope

I liked Microsofts straightforward approach and the way they presented the games they had but throughout their presentation the games that caught my interest i'll be playing on my PS4, not all of course and i must admit the vibrant Sunset Overdrive looks fun and Scalebound looks interesting too. Maybe that is my taste but of course this is my opinion so i can't speak for others when i say they were the games that interested me.

I can't see how ''console debut'' can be misleading, should companies have to spell everything out and use the simplest terminology possible just in case one guy gets the wrong end of the stick, would it be better to have bold text all over the screen saying ''you can play this on PS4 first but you will be able to get it on Xbox One later if you'd like''.

As for the TV thing, yea it's TV and yes they did go into it a little too much for my liking...but...this is and entertainment expo and they are broadening the entertainment experience of their console. I think even the die hards can agree that there is a difference between Microsoft showing a games console for the first time (i didn't say debut in case anyone was mislead)and not really discussing games (because that's what the thing is made for) and Sony using a quarter of it's conference to show how it's expanding it's console into the region of TV. Basically i'm fine with TV taking up a segment of the show but it wasn't the focus, unlike what Microsoft did with the Xbox One reveal.

OT - I feel Sony had the better conference as their games appeal to me much more but i like way Microsoft were very direct in their presentation.

Talidan3606d ago (Edited 3606d ago )

About TV, I see no issue with Sony trying to provide quality content. They're using the PS environment as a platform for their own entertainment, not as a DVR/Set-top.

I welcome Microsoft doing the same, they just chose not to talk about it. Though, I may be different from most hardcore gamers because I absolutely love this sort of thing.

What I was very happy to see in regards to TV is Sony TV + PS Now. Not so much for myself, but it's a brilliant move as a company and one that I had hoped they'd do back when PS Now was first announced.

mikeslemonade3606d ago

My grades:
MS: C+
Sony: C
Nintendo: D+

lemoncake3606d ago

Aye microsoft were very clear with exactly what dlc you get with the games and which were exclusive, even had boxes during gameplay saying it clearly.

sonys phrasing was alot more ambiguous and they over used the word "exclusive" by just randomly attaching it to every sentence regardless of the content at times.

AngelicIceDiamond3606d ago

@ThePope well Sony didn't show a whole lot of CG the only thing that was CG was Bloodborne. Uncharted, The Order, LBP were in game.

I think all 3 were a solid B.

None of them were mindblowing, and their best games were all short trailers / footage (Halo, Uncharted, and Zelda) all of which could come out the same time next year.

Ubisoft was the winner of E3 if there is one.

Zelda alone doesn't give Nintendo a B+ rating, especially with such a short showing. If you look at what Nintendo showed there's nothing there that was above what the other 2 showed and vice versa. It's just expectations were honestly low for Nintendo so you wouldn't be disappointed like last E3, meanwhile expectations were super high for MS, and Sony was a big unknown. On top of that most of their games seem to be 2015 as well.

All 3 were a B IMO.

Each had a big game that disappointed in their showing.

MS: Fable Legens (looks great, but looks boring and uninspired)
Sony: The Order (looks incredible, but was that really the section to show)
Nin: Xenoblade (A far cry from the original trailer, and complete U-turn)

And their biggest games were all 1 minute teasers.

MS: Halo 5
Sony: Uncahrted 4
Nin: Zelda

There was no winner this E3.

MS: Had best pacing, and was all out games. Although most were multiplat, and nothing really wowed.

Sony: Had the best showings and surprises, but they need to save the media briefings for GDC and focus solely on games a wow moments for E3.

Nintendo: Have no real 3rd party support once again, and the Wii U is pretty much the Nintendo console now, but thankfully the first parties are starting to finally flex their muscle, and things are looking good.

Once again there was no E3 winner.

jmc88883606d ago

There's a difference between talking about an IP being made a TV show as well as a movie as compared to launching a new console and talking about TV, TV, TV, NFL, Kinect, etc.

Also the other aspects of TV very much were linked to gaming. Not just any gaming, but core gaming. Not Kinect BS.

Sony talking about its TV's because you'll be able to stream games to it, making it a retro console, appeals to gamers, including core gamers. It's not TV, as much as you must wish it so, it's about games.

Playstation TV will be integrated with Vita, PS4, etc. Do core gamers care about more games for their Vita? Do core gamers care about playing PS4 games on other HDTV's in their home?

It's funny how desire clouds one's mind. MS fans are so shell shocked from last year they misrepresent the reality in front of themselves in a poor attempt to flush that experience away by bashing Sony for what their twisted minds think is a comparable situation. In reality, what Sony just did is NOTHING like what Microsoft did.

What your post proves is that the Xbox crowd still doesn't understand WHY the TV aspect was so negative, and it also forgets that it wasn't just TV, but Kinect. What core gamers saw was that they had to pay more for less power and focus on core games, and much more on stuff they don't want or will barely use.

It wasn't 'tv', it was about a console being focused on TV, TV, NFL, Kinect.

It's not hard to distinguish between the two. Connecting your cablebox is not the same TV as using a device to play games on other TV's.

E3 is about games, not just 'games' generically which so many people are falling into the trap of, but each game SEPARATELY and what they bring to the table. It is also about the other aspects within GAMING.

What you forget is that Sony and MS were not on the same footing. Sony doesn't have to prove to anyone that the PS4 is about gaming. MS on the other hand with all the TV, TV, TV, NFL, Kinect, IS in a position where they HAVE to showcase games, because their Xbox One vision was severely lacking in it's focus to the very people they are asking to buy their console.

So PS4 didn't need to showcase the PS4 as a gaming console, whereas Microsoft had to show that their device is more then a multimedia content machine.

It's called knowing the difference between the forest from the trees.

You're going to bash Sony for CGI trailers? You do realize that almost everything Microsoft showed 1st party wise was CGI right? That the fluid Sunset Overdrive was all CGI, while the choppy real stuff took a backseat.

CGI is ok a bit here or there, but Microsoft almost exclusively showed it.

Sony had much less, and most of theirs wasn't true CGI but PS4 machine rendering cutscenes.

Microsoft was once again using PC's to show their stuff, and that means Microsoft fans have a lot of downgrades to not look forward to, but are definitely coming. Blame Microsoft, they were the ones using PC's of unknown power...but could be 5-10-15x more powerful then an X1 or even more. (because there are 25-35 TFlop PC's out there).

I don't think MS's showing was bad, I thought it was rather decent.

Derpy3606d ago

I'd probably would grade it like this myself;
Sony B
Microsoft C
Nintendo B+

Automatic793605d ago (Edited 3605d ago )

I agree pope if the show was reversed and MS pulled the same show as Sony the fans on this site would have screamed epic fail. Some how they all making excuses and its okay.

Note:Both MS and Sony show were good not sure if any one company dominated.

3605d ago
OldDude3605d ago

Sony's show was a joke. Get ready for the drought because as they proved, they dont have money for games. Its going to be slow going. Time to get rid of my PS4 which just collects dust anyway, and my Vita which is the biggest crock of a game system ever made.

The way I look at it is this.

MS had a very entertaining conference. Just game after game being shown but the lack of gameplay makes me look at something cool but not actually know if I'll even like it. Not much more to say about what they had to show to be honest.

Sony pretty much had the opposite for the most part. Lots of gameplay to show but then there were areas where things just got really boring. At one point they were basically marketing their TV and Entertainment divisions... But that Arkham Knight gameplay looked stunning :D

Either way I think that so far It's a pretty good E3. Feels like theres something for everyone from both MS and Sony. Im just about to watch Ninty's event so cant really offer an opinion on them yet.

AngelicIceDiamond3606d ago (Edited 3606d ago )

Wait a minute here?

This guy is complaining about leaks that happened during the year. But these leaks we were hoping to be true and they were. Has the surprises been shot down? Yes but it was still a great conference. So he dings MS for that?

Sony Bend rumored to be there and The infamous Last Guardian rumor that never dies ppl were expecting a possible Crash Bandicoot. But none of those rumored leaks happen while MS conference at least it did happen.

How can the internet truly get away with The Last Guardian rumors and still give Sony a free pass? At least MS leaks were legit instead of massive disappointments.

If you have leaks or rumors at least let some of have some truth to it.

"Sony had some serious low points during their nearly 2 hour long conference like when they talked about Playstation TV shows for 10 minutes plus."

Right Sony is forgiven but when MS does it MS gets the lowest score ever.

"But overall they showed off enough unique games, especially indie titles, to push them ahead of Microsoft’s show."

Some of those indie games are already on PC or coming to X1 soon. I agree they look great and Sony did overall outdo MS on the indie but like I said its not that important considering indies see its way on other platforms later on.

I agree with LBP 3 that look like allot of fun but he hypes multiplat when MS had equal the amount of multiplat to show off on its console unless he really likes those games that's all subjective.

Hey its his opinion but there's something off about what hes saying.

@Argumentum "E3 announcements and cg trailers at E3 should be C+ at best."

You know that's what happens when you announce brand new games that are early in development. They tend to be CGI or work in progress I mean, that's basic knowledge.

None of that is holding back MS current line up now. Sunset Overdrive, FH2, Halo 1 remake later Quantum Break, Halo 5 and Fable Legends.

Those 3 announced games are just bonuses.

ThePope3606d ago

When The Witcher devs got on stage they said, "Hi we're here to show The Witcher and...you know lets just show the game. I absolutely loved that!

RiPPn3606d ago (Edited 3606d ago )

Loose lips sink ships. The controlled ntkrnl leaks that happened in January really took a lot of the wind out of Microsofts sails. Also it didn't help that the bigtime announcements like the changes to Gold and Kinectless Xbox happened in May. And the gameplay shown.. sorry but cod was a snore, we have already seen witcher 3 gameplay and Assassins Creed much like cod was just more Assassins Creed, sorry but Microsoft's conference just wasn't that exciting.

With Sony if you cut out the 20 minute lull, they had the same amount of time on games, and gameplay from games we had seen nothing from prior like Far Cry 4, Mortal Kombat X and Batman. Also we got a new console and a new console color. A much better indie sizzle reel. And several unknown surprises in the Infamous DLC, Little Big Planet 3, Grim Fandango, and GTAV.

I believe if Sony cut out the talking segment, no one would even be comparing the conferences, but rather they would be talking about how Sony blew everyone away.

AngelicIceDiamond3606d ago (Edited 3606d ago )

@Pope Yeah that was pretty good.

If I HAD to grade.

It would be S being the highest (superb)F being the lowest (Fail)

MS B+

They said they're here for the games and the show's quick pacing was games. Plus MS has enough games to make for a stellar line up this fall that spill into next year's line up. Great 3rd party support mixed with exclusives. It was solid.

Sony B

LBP 3 had a great showing Uncharted 4 was super amazing The Order I liked what I saw but could of been a little more but overall a great showing.

Bloodborne looks very cool but I can't really say the same for Let It Die it didnt look that great to me.

Sony had Terrific Indie support great F2P support. Great mix of 3rd party support and exclusives same as MS very great showing. Great fall line up also.

However.

Sony had a great conference and believe it or not I'm looking forward to that Super hero show because I like shows centered around the fiction.

But that wasn't the time nor the place for it. Nor was the stats talk. MS isn't gonna get away with it Sony won't as well. That part dragged for a little while.

Nintendo A

Bayonetta, Devils Third, The Legend Of Zelda U, Yoshi's Wooly World new Kirby are very nice announcements

Splatoon looks like a fun party game. What I also like is Nintendo mentioned no third party and are strictly focusing on what they do best. Honestly, Nintendo's never really needed third party in the first place.

EDIT: Also, Star Fox!

Considering they're all supporting MS and Sony anyway.

Those are my grades.

You very biased. Many Sony trailers were CG trailers.
In fact Microsoft showed only games, Sony talked about TVs, TV show, new camera(36 min).
I don´t see how TV show, TVs, camera and sell talk is better than gameplay videos that Microsoft was showing.
Microsoft showed 30 games, Sony showed 16 games.

Talidan3606d ago

Only Bloodborne, Dead Island 2, and Let It Die were CG. I haven't even watched Microsoft's yet (was in the city all day yesterday for Sony's theater thing), so I can't compare, but 3 CG trailers didn't strike me as "many".

I think if MS hadn't revealed so much stuff beforehand they would get a B. I agree with these scores, pretty much. I thought Ubisoft had a damn good show minus Aisha. Nintendo surpassed my expectations and they're still not done.

infinitewords3606d ago

I'd give Nintendo a B+, Sony a B+ and Microsoft a B. Overall a really good E3.

truefan13606d ago (Edited 3606d ago )

Sunset Overdrive and Halo collection had the best gameplay in terms of exclusives. Sunset looked flat out awesome and Halo brought back all those memories.

PSN-JeRzYzFyNeSt3606d ago (Edited 3606d ago )

SunSet overdrive will Flop im calling it here

@PWNSAUCE

Fuse was a FLOP

pwnsause_returns3606d ago

insomniac games dont flop...

sure Resistance 2 was bad, but their games besides R2 have been solid.

georgeenoob3606d ago (Edited 3606d ago )

@ PSN

Prepare to be disappointed my friend. You have to be some hell of a fanboy to think it'll flop after watching gameplay like that at E3. You were probably pissing yourself in horror while watching it.

Telling yourself it'll flop over and over on N4G doesn't change anything.

Drekken3606d ago

Pwnsause, I am an insomniac fan... I loved all the resistance games. Most of the Ratchets were solid, but lets not fool ourselves. Insomniac games are mid-tier at best and tend to sell badly.

Last ratchet to break 1m sales = 2011
Ratchet into the Nexus didn't break 1/2 Mil

Resistance 1 - 4m; R2 = 2.4M; R3 = 1.2M (biggest user base)

Fuse - Did not break 200k.

Insomniac seem to be producing a fun game with Sunset, but Insomniac abandoned their fanbase on the PS platform to make a game on a brand of consoles that most of the user base would call them generic. I hope they do well, but if they don't. I welcome them back to the dark side.

user74029313606d ago (Edited 3606d ago )

sony wins again

URNightmare3606d ago

But I thought you wanted new games and not remasters???

You're existence disgust me.

NatureOfLogic_3606d ago

Nintendo wins because of Zelda alone imo. PS4+WiiU combo will be more than enough for me this gen.

DA_SHREDDER3606d ago

i have all three systems, but if i could only have two, id have a wiiU xbone combo, more games to play right now on the bone.

Rimeskeem3606d ago

There are actually way more games on the ps4.

I think you are trying to say that the games you wanna play are on xbone

Vegamyster3606d ago

PC & Wii-U for me, more then enough for quite sometime.

Veneno3606d ago

He meant there is more meat on the Bone.

DA_SHREDDER3606d ago (Edited 3606d ago )

The only really good game on the ps4 right now imo is FF14, if you can enlighten me on the others thats fine, but for me right now is mario kart, titan fall, new Dead rising 3 dlc, forza, and more and more titan fall. I hate cod and Battlefield now. and Im just speaking in currently playing, of course there are more games coming exclusive that I can't wait for , like a new motorstorm and guerrilla's new open world fallout type game, and of course uncharted, not saying all the other games aren't coming, and i left out of few other good ones, but even in the future, im more interested in the new zelda and starfox than almost anything

Spotie3606d ago

There are, factually, more games on PS4. If you don't like them, that's one thing, and you're well within your rights to say the XB1 lineup appeals to you more.

But to say the XB1 has more games is a flat out lie. Odds are that you care more about whether or not a game is related to Xbox than whether or not they truly appeal to you.

I've noticed that Xbox fans frequently say the PS4 doesn't have as many games, when what they mean is that there are games they don't want to have an interest in on PS4 because they're not also on Xbox.

DA_SHREDDER3605d ago

what i meant to say is that there are more quality games on the xbone than on the ps4, but to be completely honest with you I also feel that last gen has the upper hand when it comes to quality software, the ps4 and xbone and even the wiiU have a lot of catching up to do. BTW, Ive been known as a ps3 fanboy for the past 8 years, so Im not butt hurt about anything, im actually not biased at all anymore cause i realize i can have the cake and eat it too, thats why i have all the systems, every one that was pretty much ever made to be exact, it wasn't until last gen that fanboyism actually became an issue, i remember back in the days when we didn't think one system was better than the other, it was about the games, i wish that was true these days

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 3605d ago

Same here, already have the Wii U and getting a PS4 in 2015/16. Bloodborne, Let It Die and Zelda, among many others, are going to be epic.
