As the age of next-gen approaches, we look back on the games that influenced us and are worthy of being considered one of the most defining games of the last generation.
The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.
Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!
The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer
Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱
This should make fans and collectors very happy. PureArts & Ubisoft Announce Assassin’s Creed Hunt for the Nine 1/6 Scale Diorama Assassin's Creed Hunt for the Nine 1/6 Scale Diorama available for pre-order on January 25.
Matt from We Game Daily writes: "Cross Worlds isn’t going away. It’s making a small fortune, particularly in Asian markets, so there’s no reason for Level-5 to pull the plug. That said, there’s no real reason why a full PC/console sequel can’t be developed alongside efforts to support Cross Worlds."
While Ni no Kuni 3 would be cool, if it was like the first game, where is Dark Cloud 3 and Rogue Galaxy 2?
They should've worked with Ghibli to put out a proper movie. Should've also made a Pokemon-esque spin-off rather than make Yokai Watch. If they do make a third game they gotta work with Ghibli!
Uncharted changed how games are made forever.
The Last of Us proved that video games transcend other entertainment industries like movies, literature, etc
Demon's Souls saved JRPG in the west and brought back the respect
Ni No Kuni proved that video games as art form
Bioshock brought the shock value in video game story telling
CoD 4
Minecraft!
Lego Batman
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Red Dead Redemption
DC Universe Online
Mobile Suit Gundam Batte Operation F2P on its 2nd year and still doing great!
Gravity Rush puts all of a gaming device's features in to full use!
Not a bad list however I would take out Saints Row The Third and Tekken and put in Gears of War and if any fighting game should be on the list SF4. Oh and perhaps AC2 instead of the first, 2s formula was so good AC4 could copy it and get praise even today.
The more I think about it CoD4 is more defining for its genre than Halo, and this coming from probably one of the biggest Halo 3 fans. CoD4 just had a much larger impact, and not in a good way lol. To this day no game does what Halo does on console, no console game to my knowledge thrives off of arena style competition and user created content
I would love to say a game like TES and Fallout but no game to my knowledge is anything like them
For me....
Gears of War. I mean, wow
Uncharted. Nuff said
Geometry wars. Cheap and good
Mass effect (my favorite game)
Lair (things aren't always what you hope)
COD 4... Took me from Halo multi
Bad company 2 (still play multi)
GTA IV. Craftmanship
Mario galaxy. Top 3 series of generation
If there's one thing I'm concerned about with any of these "best games of last gen" articles, it's that Persona 5, a PS3 game to be released down the road, is likely going to surpass at least a few of them.
The generation is still going, guys. :)
Oh Ok...SR3 is a genre defining game. Thats like saying a MCdonalds hamburger is fine dining.
