Jolt Review: Sword of the Stars: Collector's Edition

Jolt Uk reports:

''It's easy to spot the similarities between the handful of space strategies currently on the market, but working out the differences, and more importantly what those differences mean and whether or not they are for the better, is another matter.

Sword of the Stars (review) is approaching its second year since publication, and while that's not a huge amount of time in a slow-moving genre, in that period we've seen a number of patches, a fully fledged expansion and the excellent space RTS Sins of a Solar Empire.

To be fair, Sword of the Stars still stands out for the things that initially set it apart: it's turn-based, fairly straightforward, reasonably well paced, has a good emphasis on fleet customisation and, if you do find yourself enjoying it, has enough depth and variety to last you a long while – more so with the expansion, which ramps up the difficulty from hard to very hard.'' (PC, Sword of the Stars) 7.0/10
