During the latest episode of the webcast Kojima Station legendary Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima introduced then map of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain compared to the size of the maps of all the previous MGS Games.
Wow. I just hope it's as detailed as it is expansive, because that is absolutely massive. In Kojima we trust.
As impressive as that is, bear in mind that, even from early glimpses of the game, a lot of the spaces are massive wide open spaces. Don't expect those maps to be be brimming with loads of content. I also wonder how much variety we will get in terms of environments. Is it just set in this Afghan desert area? We saw the hospital section; will it be just that and the Afghan desert or some more stuff. I'd be more impressed with multiple open world locations and I think this runs a danger of getting a bit same-y. Nit picking here obviously seeing as we know very little. The story and gameplay alone already make this a GOTY contender for me. I can't wait to kick the **** out of Skull Face, especially after what he did in GZ (listen to the audio tapes...they are RAW).
Here's the thing - I don't expect it to be as detail filled as The Witcher might be, especially considering the episodic nature of MGS V. But it's reasonable to expect that the game will be rich and zany, even if that takes a shape we might not expect. It's interesting that we crave that kind of interaction, but Kojima has a reputation for giving us methods of interaction that are logical and hilarious. Just can't wait to experience it. And here's hoping this extra time gives us more bonuses like exploding from the top of the box. That single moment was more thrilling than anything in The Phantom Pain.
Am I missing something here? MGS 4 seems to have the biggest map, granted it wasn't open world and each of those were separate missions. I guess MGSV is one big area where you're free to roam
Harrier Jump Jet, A-10 Thunderbolt II, Hind D, AH-64 Apache, F-117 Nighthawk, better be in MGSV Phantom Pain.
It's not the map for phantom pain. It's showing the map for ground zeros.
While it appears MGS5 has the biggest single area/map of any other MGS game, it doesn't look like it comes anywhere close to the overall size of MGS4 (add up all the MGS4 red pieces, and it would dwarf MGS5's total area). Also if you look at the MGS4 pieces, at the very top it looks like there is a HUGE chunk of red, almost looks bigger than the chunk of red for MGS5. Either way, this presentation of all the MGS games size is pretty lame. What's up with the confusing background?
The background is MGS5. It is an overlay comparison. The red part on the far right is the Ground Zeroes area which is basically just a demo for Phantom Pain.
Oh... DAMN! Crap, ok... that is absolutely gigantic in size! My hype for this game just shot through the roof! Thanks for the clarification Dasteru :-)
That's huge, i bought ground zeros on ps4 but couldn't really get into the game. It felt too different from previous MGS games.(been a mGS fan for a very long time) Will give ground zeros another chance, i really hope i can get into it. Otherwise i guess that's it for me from MGS series and i would hate that since its one of my most favorite titles
i dont get it its supposed to be one big chunk of space? also, doesnt the game will include various maps? just one big map?
That's one enormous map among others.
This what I thought^ Is this supposed to be just the Afghanistan part of the game? I mean from what we were told, the game will be in a vast array of areas like MGS4, that are all huge and open etc. Or maybe this map represents the size of every single area combined? I would believe that over thinking this is just one of the levels of MANY. I mean if this is just one, the game would have to be so insanely huge that it trumps the likes of Skyrim 5 times over! I don't personally see that happening, i'm a little confused. I mean based on the dimensions of the photo, the article says it's about 24 square kilometers, while Skyrim was 38. That's still an amazing size! So I can't see this being just one level, idk. Maybe it can be much bigger due to next gen, so confused!
camp omega sure does have alot of space to move around i hope phantom pain will be trully grand.
It'S huge! Kojima should have created the map in ground zeroes bigger, cause the game was so short. To me it was a rip off.
its a prologue so its supposed to be short. the codec talking and briefings can be heard during gameplay and the cutscenes are shorter and more into the point so the focus is on the gameplay. Plus Kojima as stated this is mostly just to give a taste for whats to come i spent 20 bucks for a a very early demo but a pretty damm good one at that, ground zeroes not only is more interesting than most full games that were released this year so far but also got alot of people interested in the phantom pain so its all good if you like mgs.
damn that's big but I hope its not large for the sake of being large. I hope theres a lot to see and do not just traveling between locations
Kojima isn't the type to do that. I'm really really confident a majority of it will be spaces filled with things too discover or do
HOLY SHIT! THAT'S HUGELY ENORMOUS! Look at Ground Zeroes' map! 0_o
Holy F* that's one hippopotamus map
The girl in the MGS picture looks like such a sleep arounder. And as if she'll be fat and 50... when she's 40.
This game will be huge. Metal Gear and Kojima are legendary.
I'd probably care more if the English voice actors weren't garbage this time around. Hope they have Japanese voices in the NA version unlike MGS:GZ. It would suck to play the game on mute (wouldn't suck so much if I could mute all voices and still keep the other audio though).
I'm very confused. People actually think Kiefer Sutherland is bad? The guy isn't famous for nothing.
This guy is one racist mother mofo. He hates Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear. Just look at his comment history, he hates anything Japanese.
I have no idea what I'm supposed to be looking at, I can see a big picture with 1 half dirt/sand (with 2 triangles of water?) & the other half completely water, with all the other game maps displayed. Are there supposed to be buildings/huts etc? Is the dirt/sand part supposed to be canyons? :S
Ok the WHOLE THING is the size of Phantom Pains map. All the colour splotches are the sizes of all the other games. In other words, Phantom Pain is bigger than all the other MGS games combined.
Oh ok, thanks. Geez that's going to be interesting with stealth.
That is awesome. But size does not mean it is good. As long as there are things to do etc then i will be more impressed
Took me some time to make sense of it but I get it now. That map is huge compared to the ones in previous iterations of the MGS franchise.
I'd love to use that box again for sneaking
Awesome! Can't Wait!
