PS4 1.71 Firmware Update Implements 16 Player Party Chat

Looks like the PS4 firmware update 1.71 just released by Sony Computer Entertainment included an rather relevant undocumented feature.

It's said 16 on mine since update 1.7 came out over a month ago. I was talking about on party chat to friends about it a week or so ago and we couldnt figure why it said 16 when you could only have 8.

Also if you have a party chat open at the top of the screen it still says you can only have 8 even if you try to invite 16

@gamertk Last I checked there was 2-3 million more on PS4 than XBO. And you'd be surprised at much party chat is used on PS4.

Lol, damn. 8 player party chat was too much at times on the 360, with everyone having separate conversations with each other. 16 would be mayhem at times, lol.

Would be great for games with large player counts though.

oh k so you can do 16 invites but when you go to the party chat and look top of the screen it says 8 players max

Another useless update. Why don't they give us what we request constantly instead of these stupid things? 16 player party chat, who the hell cares??

Give me MP3 playback, the ability to play video files via usb or external HDD, ability to see when friends sign on and off. Custom themes/wallpapers. Ability to organize that looooooooooooooong bar. The ability to delete things that I will never use, example: amazon instant video, hulu and so on.

And most of all give me backwards compatibility. I know it can be done and whoever believes it can't is an idiot and just fooling themselves.

You can delete the video apps like Amazon instant video can be deleted

Uhh... hardware BC for ps3 games ain't coming anytime soon. It's not even physically possible with the PS4's CPU. I do however miss the gobs of functionality the PS3 has over the PS4.

That would be mayhem with up to 2000 friends. I got to 100 on PS3 and it was non stop that people were getting on-off.

I agree, Sony updates are slow, but Microsoft is updating what Sony has already to my understanding. All I know, is updates are great from both sides. Curious...the PS4 lacking so much from the start, did this help them also to keep the price down on PS4 at launch, and maybe they are waiting to reduce overhead cost of parts due to GDDR5 and other stuff inside PS4. So maybe they are playing the waiting game to save cost much as possible. Then add in more goodies when they reduce the cost inside PS4.

I dunno, just saying...hell I don't even know if it cost Microsoft and Sony a lot of money to add updates...but I'm happy to see updates coming at least, thanks Sony!

it took sony 4 plus years implement ps3 features u expect them to prot over ps3 featurs to ps4.

immeidately ok ps3 never had cross chat ps4 is kind of got it why would u want ps3 features on ps4 ps4 is its own system unique.

if u want those features on ps4 go buy ps3 i want each console to be its unique individual im huge sony fan no disrespect but i wanti nnovative and new not port over stuff.

Of all the updates to be released they release this? Don't get me wrong I'm sure this is great for ps4 users unlike myself. Why you may ask? I'm waiting on a patch/update that'll let me play my damn 3D movies. I think this is ridiculous that it wasn't inc in the beginning let alone to this date! I just don't get it. I'm sure there are more like me who have not upgraded to ps4 for this reason! Its a entertainment unit that only 85% entertains. One small patch Sony and I'm guessing at a few more thousand units sold I'm sure of it.
For now, I'll stick to ps3 with all the functionality that I need.
I'm waiting sony!!!!
I promise to upgrade once you release the patch!!!
