Mighty No. 9 is looking solid but uninspired (and very blue)

The first proper bout of footage for Keiji Inafune's Mighty No. 9 shows that, yes, it looks a lot like a certain Capcom series, but let's put the obvious comparisons to Dino Crisis aside for a moment and focus on the Mega Man creator's latest game. After a wildly successful Kickstarter last year - people really like to put their money behind familiar concepts, huh? - we've been afforded our first non-prototypey glimpse of the platformer in action, and while it's a video that holds few surprises, Mighty No. 9 does look like the sort of safe, largely unambitious game I might enjoy on a rainy day. (3DS, Mighty No. 9, PC, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

it's a spiritual Mega Man game, that is exactly what people who paid for it on kickstarter expect and want.

the great thing about kickstarter is developers serve the supporters and don't have to worry about the "I know better" media

Exactly. Game developers listening to idiot journalists and dumbass casual gamers have ruined and killed many once great franchises. Gears of War is a perfect example of that.

I would have said the push for HD, realtime/realworld game mechanics. Abandoning rather than further developing basic game genres because publisher couldn't justify the $60 prices for them.

Could not agree more, in my opinion UC2 Mp was possibly the best mp of last gen, it got lessened by patch 1.05 and UC3 was utter trash, all to cater the casual. Resistance was the same mess, great mp, R2 tried to cater to the journalists and bullet points, R3 was a mass market attempt.

Probably the only time listening to journalists was a good thing was Infamous 2, they tried to go mass market with the hipster Cole, and journalists (IGN mainly) went nuts, as hardcore fans did as well, and Sucker Punch listened. To bad ND didnt listen to the hardcore about UC mp.

All in all, I would rather a studio make the game THEY want above all else. That is when you get the most quality (even if it is not some peoples preference). I mean a dev that truly loves what they are working on will produce better results. But it seems after a dev does that and gains attention, the sequels go for the mass market and have less heart. Just a general opinion though, there are always exceptions.

A++ to itBourne on recognizing R:FoM and UC2 as two of, if not the two best multiplayer games of last gen.

Yeah I cant agree more about uncharted 2 multiplayer. I bought it for the multiplayer and loved it. They changed it for people that complained on the fourms and ruined it.

+well said @NewMonday

I was just going to say the same thing. How can a game that is fully inspired by Mega Man be 'uninspired'?

Pretty cool so far.

It seems like some one doesn't like a challenge. Casual gamer alert! Maybe this is why the media sucks, because they actually suck at gaming.

uninspired? Looks very much inspired by Mega Man.
josephayal  +   112d ago
uninspired? I personally don't care I do love a bit of megaman
Inception  +   112d ago
"uninspired"? but the submitter name is "CallofDutyfan"
Rotfl, talked about irony

Anyway, the game looks great, just like any Megaman fans expected. So i don't know what this 'pcgamer' expect from Mighty no 9 -_-

ikr?

Imagine though that Resident Evil 7 (or whatever it'll be called) and Mighty No9 both come out around the same time next year and Mighty no9 selling way more than Resident Evil :p

Man, I bet THAT would make the people at Capcom feel like real idiots

I am super excited for this game but I can't say I am fond of the fact you have to dash through every enemy like that once you weaken them, I like the aspect and I am not saying its bad, I just think they overused it a bit.

In the latest alpha build, that is basically all the game was, just dashing constantly through literally everything. So no I can't say that is what I expect out of Mega Man game.

Even with Zero, he didn't even dash that often. The dashing in Mighty No.9 just seems excessive to me, sorry.

Facepalm.

Does the writter understand the concept of pre-alpha footage ?
Does the writter understand the fact that
-the mecanics are not finalised
-the mecanics are megaman inspired ( un inspired , really ? ) because that's what backers wanted
-the graphics are not finalised.

Ahem PRE-ALPHA ?

PRE ALPHA !

Seriously, There is no need to critic a title where nothing is finalised yet, it's not like the team behind this don't know what they are doing.

The moment someone called 'CallofDutyfan' says something is uninspired is when I stop taking anything they say seriously.

Being a fan of one of the most boring and uninspired gaming series is very contradicting when you criticize another series for being uninspired.
Midori  +   111d ago
"CallofDutyfan" never "said" the game was uninspired; he or she merely submitted the article with a quote from Tom Sykes. You appear to be taking that out on the wrong person in an attempt to discredit their opinion. You would have a potential point if CallOfDutyFan's submissions were all or mostly from PC Gamer, as it would imply a connection between article author and submitter, but his or her source portfolio is quite diverse.

Huh, I thought the username of the person who submits these articles is also the person who wrote them.
My bad, ignore my previous comment. (But I stand by what I said about the CoD series being bland and uninspired.)

To the guy who actually wrote this article; People funded this game to be a Megaman clone, it was primarily funded by people who're hungry for more Megaman but are sick of waiting for Capcom.
Complaining that the game looks too 'safe' or 'too much like Megaman' is like saying "I don't like this orange juice because it's made to taste like orange juice."
Blacklash93  +   111d ago
It looks like people are getting what they funded the project for. What's to complain about? Another clickbait article.
