Feature: Four Reasons Why PS4 Racer DriveClub Will Finish in Pole Position

Push Square: "We could sense that DriveClub was about to hit rockier terrain back when we played it last summer. A bullish Evolution Studios was targeting the PlayStation 4’s launch at the time, but we just couldn’t see it crossing the finish line. There were numerous issues with the release: the visuals didn’t quite match the next-gen vision that enthusiastic director Matt Southern had promised during February’s pacey PlayStation Meeting press conference, while we felt that the handling still needed tightening up. However, there were signs of promise – and so the title’s time extension late last year prompted our engine to purr rather than roar. Now, with the Runcorn-based studio on the home straight ahead of release, here are four reasons why we reckon that the socially connected racer will finish in pole position this October."

I don't think so. But good luck anyway.

The article isn't even approved yet, and you're already in looking to slam DriveClub? Why?

Graphically it has almost reached its promised potential but I still have reservations about its driving/gameplay and all the forced social aspects it is trying to incorporate. Also it is an arcade game not simulation and that 30 fps limit is a huge cause of concern in a driving game. Besides I prefer driving simulators (the more realistic the better for me).

There are plenty of realistic looking arcade racers available and Drive Club still does not seem to be a title worthy of a system seller moniker like Gran Turismo was in the past.

It will still be a great game, there is no doubt about that, but I don't think it will quite have the impact that Sony and Evolution Studios are looking for.

@ FasterThanFTL,

I really don't understand how you can say that. Guerrillas Games surpassed their target render for Killzone ShadowFall. Suckper Punch did the same thing with Infamous: Second Son. Driveclub has definitely gone beyond their target render. What's there to be reserved about? If you've every played any arcade racer (PGR/Forza Horizon) you know what to expect. As far as car models go, nothing on CONSOLES is even coming close. (In before the PC elitist scream Project cars)

Off topic: Now know that all these 1st party devs hit their target renders, the Dark Sorcerer is beginning to seem very achievable.

"Graphically it has almost reached its promised potential"

The game looks better than the reveal trailer in PS4s February event.

Nice try troll but you failed hard.

"I still have reservations about its driving/gameplay and all the forced social aspects it is trying to incorporate."

Forced social aspect? That's what the game is all about. You join a club and then compete with other Clubs for prestige and fame. Hence the name DriveClub. It's what sets it apart from most racers and what makes it interessting in the first place.

Also it's not as arcady as you might think even though it's not a sim racer.

"30 fps limit is a huge cause of concern in a driving game."

Not at all. Again this is not a sim racer. Just go to gamersyde and download one of the newest DriveClub videos and take a look at how smooth the gameplay looks.

"There are plenty of realistic looking arcade racers available and Drive Club still does not seem to be a title worthy of a system seller moniker like Gran Turismo was in the past."

That's not what it's supposed to be. The PS4 isn't in need of a system seller anyway.

MysticStrummer1245d ago

Not only is the social aspect what the game is all about, we've known it from the very beginning, along with it not being a sim. Being concerned about these things now is pretty odd. For someone who seems to like racing games he apparently doesn't read about upcoming racing games much.

I agree, watching any of the newer DC vids makes me chuckle at people who say 60fps is essential, and yeah PS4 doesn't need a system seller but DC was never billed as such anyway.

Isn't about time you just give up the facade and admit you're trolling?

Where are these "plenty" of other realistic arcade racers?

Not even gonna get into the rest of the stupidity you call comments. Just answer that one question.

And you can go solo! really, i mean race by yourself. If you want to form a club, then that's a players choice, not forceful. :)
