Unfortunately one of the series’ best features is completely ruined in Nintendo’s latest iteration of the franchise; battle mode

I don't understand what made them change it. People loved it in the past games. I don't see why they would change something which people liked.

If they wanted to add something new they could of had both. The old battle mode and the new one for variation.

Concertoine1672d ago

I said this before but i honestly think it was to get this game out sooner. The game is incredibly polished everywhere else so its still puzzling.
We should voice our dissatisfaction, maybe we'll get a DLC with proper arena courses.

wheresmymonkey1671d ago

It works fine online when there's 12 of you playing it. I don't know why they changed it, but the rest of the game is so damn good i don't see why it's that much of an issue.

Concertoine1671d ago

i was never one for battle mode, but i do realize it's a nice diversion. saying "well it doesnt matter because the rest of the game is so good", is missing the point. That's like if a supplementary but still widely played game mode in COD or BF was integrally changed for the worse. In those games' communities people would complain and hopefully a change would be made.

That's not the best way to look at it... "everything else is good, so it's okay". Yes, everything else is good, which it's supposed to be, but that doesn't mean battle mode shouldn't be good... especially with so many games in the series. Nintendo knows the expectations. Nintendo has it down to a formula, which they never deviate from... so this is either a case of rush to market, or they plan on DLC (paid or not) map packs in the future.

LonDonE1671d ago (Edited 1671d ago )

trust me when i tell you its purely because they are planning to add a dlc pack which will have the traditional battle mode maps!

This way they know the majority of mario kart 8 players WILL BUY THE DLC! purely for the battle mode arena maps! its annoying but i bet my left testicle on it.

bass4g1671d ago

To be fair I think the majority of people rarely if ever played battle mode and they already nerfed it in the wii version, I think this has been a long time coming, it's steadily become less and less of a focus and I wouldn't be surprised if battle mode was removed from the next game entirely. It seems that they must have run out of time and prioritized the racing over the battle mode. They knew that they couldn't delay this game and that's good. It bodes well for smash bros. They might add more arenas in an update or dlc, so we'll just have to wait on that (it'd most likely be revealed at e3).

DLC most likely.

Nintendo isn't anyti- DLC anymore.

They just released Season Pass for Mario Golf to download 6 more courses so I could see them offering up a new cup or some ACTUAL Battle Mode arenas.

A little concerning, but I would like to put some hours into the mode to make a fair judgement

bigbearsack1671d ago

I hope they add the old battle mode later.

Sincere01211671d ago

Rarely ever played battle mode, it's all about the online racing for me, so not really much of a big deal.

I know people will try and make a bigger issue out of this tho as it's Nintendo, where everyones quick to criticize but slow to give credit.

Oh well I say lets forget the bitchy moaners.
To all the real gamers I'll see you on the track next Friday.

PotatoAsylum1671d ago

Nope, some of us would just like the old Battle mode to return and feel its absence is a pretty disappointing omission. It was a lot of fun in previous titles, and some people even preferred it over the racing itself (I played it about 30-40% of the time in both Mario Kart 64 and Crash Team Racing when I was younger - it was insanely fun split-screen). It's a big part of Mario Kart for a lot of people, and its also seen as a very basic feature. Nintendo has gotten plenty of credit and praise for this game, so I don't know what you're moaning about. Insinuating that people aren't ''real gamers'' for wanting the Battle Mode in the game, or even not owning a Wii U, is one of the saddest things I've seen in while. You seem a bit brainwashed.

CrowbaitBob1671d ago

Mario Kart battle mode may not be for you, but for those of us that have enjoyed it since the original I think it'd be nice if Nintendo put in the effort to create proper battle arena maps.

I guess that's enough "bitchy moaning" for me right now.

Imagine if Nintendo sold a $5 DLC pack for characters (Boo, Dry Bones, Nabbit, Parakoopa, Bowser Jr) $5 DLC for tracks (1-Up cup with 5 courses w/mirror) and a $5 Battle Mode arena pack (4 classic, 4 new)

Nintendo would both make a bunch of money and satisfy fan wishes. The right amount of content at the right price would be a fair business decision if you ask me. Of course I would prefer if Battle Arenas were already in the game, but extra content would be a wise decision

Dehnus1671d ago (Edited 1671d ago )

Keep your DLC crap models away from my console! And keep it on your Paystation 4 and Xfraud One.

Summons751671d ago

you do realize that Mario Golf is adding over 100 courses with 5 planned dlc packs right? They're doing it right, cheap and worth the purchase.

No_Limit1671d ago

Chill out son! No need to get angry, it is only videogames at the end. LOL

I don't think you will see many DLC on Wii simply with the fact that it only has a maxed drive of 32gb. You can always add in an external drive but I don't see many Wii owners doing that as most of them are traditional insert games and play folks.
