GR: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will feature NFC support, Nintendo France has confirmed.
Indeed! Will you be buy thing figurines???
Yep, I'll buy all the 40-50 figurines, one for each character. They will no doubt be used to store the data for the newly introduced custom moves and your smash power points. Which will essentially allow players to bring their figurines to friends house and play as the custom characters without any hassle and compare rankings. Brilliant move by nintendo. Really brilliant!
SO brilliant. This will be HUGE. Could Wii U be making a comeback??
I can't say for certain, it will no doubt help. So many factors to consider, however, if Nintendo can market the perks behind the feature, and in conjunction with the brand strength of smash bros - it could easily draw the market that the skylanders series has paved.
This will be too expensive. Once again Nintendo is sidetracked into finding uneccessary gimmicks.
@mikeslemonade Unnecessary gimmicks that worked almost perfectly for both Skylanders and Disney Infinity...?
Which figurine are you looking forward to most?
I want Little Mac, Every Fire Emblem, Megaman and Rosalina.
@Mikeslemonade: When has video games as a hobby ever been considered cheep? Also you don't NEED to buy every figure. You could buy one or two that you like and call it a day. Nintendo is not holding a gun to your head saying you MUST buy every single character that we put out. You still have freedom of choice. You could TRY to be a little excited with the idea of how these could be used and to what effect they will have with Nintendo's franchises.
Dude, don't even try to reason with him. This is his routine: "anything the other company does is bad, and if it's hard to find the negative aspect, let's find a little fault and exaggerate it". This kind of people don't deserve a reply. Just bubble him down, and let's pray he's gone for a few weeks. OT: I really could dig this. I'm not a fan of having a lot figurines, but if they also have an utility, they get into my radar instantly. Looking forward for a Marth figurine.
Lovin' it, NFC FTW
My bank account is not ready, though my body may be.
Ditto. Bring on the toys!!
NFC? Will it also have the AFC? And will their champions play each other in the last game of the year?
AFC, UFC, WWE, NFP... you name it!
Awesome news, though my wallet might not think so.
Jeez Nintendo. What you doin to me? My wife has just given birth to my firstborn son and now im gonna need to clothe him from charity shops because you are doing this!? Wont somebody please.think of the children.
Some advice as a poor father- think outside the box. Why pay for the toys AND clothes when you can just cloth him with the NFC characters. This also gives you an excuse to buy even more characters when winter comes because bundling up is important :)
Bubs up helpful, that is amazing advice.
I'm going to be a first-time father soon, as well, but I got it all figured out. I will just wait until all the figurines are out, then trade my son for them. :3
HA! Best parent ever. XD
Yeah.... I'm not gonna buy figures. Sorry, Nintendo.
can we get voice chat during online matches tho?
Agreed. It will help considerably for team matches.
^Agreed. Any game mode with cooperative play really needs voice chat.
DONE!!! Buying every single character that comes out! Might sell off my Skylander collection to make room for my Nintendo collection. I can't wait for E3!!! The hype is killing me!
What is NFC?
Near field communication.

You combo breaking son of a...
Its short for nipples farting on clowns
Not for children.....lol
Really hope the assist trophies get one too... would love to have Waluigi and Ashley.
and if they show off how it will be used at E3 that would be much appreciated lol with that said im really looking forword to collecting all of my favorite characters XD but..my wallet..God Damn!!
i like all the possibilities with this...but to me if they dont find a way to atleast add 3-5 extra characters in addition to every thing else via nfc then its a wasted opportunity
Man I gotta say, as a huge, long-time Nintendo fan, Ive never been more exited. I understand when people compare the Wii U to the GameCube, they sales are comparable or even worst. But i loved the GameCube, melee, windwaker, double-dash....I liked GameCube leaps more than Wii. I think most Nintendo fans seen this announcement coming, but its great to get confirmation! On a slight side note, i wonder why he said 'Wii U version', as there is supposed to be a NFC reader coming to 3DS. Either way, Im happy. I was at Target about a week ago, in a toy aisle for my lil brother, and I honestly thought to myself 'Nintendo could kill with those NFC figurines, they could kill with a lot of different toys". Imagine Lego Mushroom Kingdom, Lego Hyrule, or ANYTHING Pokemon. I would hope Iwata considers all this when he wants to 'take Nintendo into other entertainment directions'.
He probably said that because the 3DS versions specs and features are already fleshed out and set, while the Wii U version still has a little wriggle room in development. That, or it was planned all along to make one of the Wii U version's unique features relate to the NFC, and to focus on the new Smash Run mode as the differentiating feature for the 3DS version instead of NFC.
I want to know just what the NFC functions will encompass...
E3 is around the corner. Have some patience. *foams at the mouth* I MUST TOO KNOOOWWWW!!!
I hope it doesn't require that you use NFC figures. I'd hate that.
Holy cow. That came from the left field.
