Nice and that's not even games for gold? I almost picked this up a few weeks ago. Glad to hear it. Gonna download tomorrow.

We should play this tonight!

I'm happy for those who don't have it but gutted for people like me who bought it. Definitely pick it up for FREE, decent game.

This is the cartoony golf game that blends some kind of RPG character development in?

My son wanted that, but it was about £16 and I wasn't convinced he'd actually play it. Now I'll download it and see. Assuming this is free in the UK as well.

It's free though, and not part of games with gold. Does it have much of a cash shop presence?

EDIT: Just followed the link in the article to their original review, and answered most of my questions. This will be a good test to check I have transactions properly locked away from my kids :)

Yes you level up, you grind to get points to be able to get better clubs, from what I have seen the levelling up does not improve your stats. You could spend some cash to upgrade your clubs, but it's not required. I paid for it way back in November and it is an enjoyable game, but man I find the putting to be incredibly difficult.

Yep, all free in the UK as well.

Glad the review helped!

Weird Microsoft have not announced this as part of the games for gold program. Must have not sold well, maybe?

Give it a go hate Golf in real life though lol

Volkama1220d ago

It's not part of Games with Gold, that kicks off next month with Max: Curse of the Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault.

This isn't being given away, it is being converted into a free to play game. Subtle difference, but basically this one will still hope to make money via micro-transactions (and is pressumably available with or without a Gold sub).

So its more like a demo so, not the full game. Ok, thanks for the info.

Volkama1220d ago (Edited 1220d ago )

No not necessarily like a demo. Free to play games often give away the whole game, and charge for customisation items and/or shortcuts.

The business model relies on catching as big an audience as possible by having no barriers to entry, and then giving that audience reason/opportunity to spend.

I don't know the specifics of what you get with this game, but I wouldn't assume it is light on content.

EDIT: Neil363 and Rdeal seem to have the specifics, this one is indeed holding back content.

According to online store: "Game description: Free Version contains: a selection of events including a hole from every course."

If you want to play a full course, you gotta pay. So, they just converted the game to a "free to play" model that charges for the courses...

Rdeal1220d ago

I think it's going free to play, which means you will not get all the courses

neil3631220d ago

Four 'course packs' have just this minute appeared in the Store tab. All cost £4.79.

Has Powerstar Golf just gone free-to-play but in the process become hit by in-game purchases? Looks like you may need to buy at least one course to play in Open Play or local multiplayer modes, upload any data for challenges, share caddies OR unlock cheevos.

So basically anything then!
