From SNES to Wii U: A Complete History of Mario Kart

CraveOnline: "Ah, Mario Kart. Perhaps the best multiplayer series of all time, what initially began as an unassuming racing game featuring Nintendo's portly mascot escalated into one of, if not the most popular franchise in Nintendo's arsenal.

Everyone has a Mario Kart memory. Whether it be racing around Koopa Beach on the SNES's Super Mario Mart, or a night of 4-player karting mayhem on Mario Kart Wii, the series has always been the one constant in video games: when you play a Mario Kart game, you know you're going to have fun.

With the impending release of Mario Kart 8, we thought we'd give a retrospective on where the Mario Kart series came from, and where it's at now. From Red Shells to Blue, Bowser's Castle to Rainbow Road, here's the complete history of Mario Kart." (3DS, GameCube, Mario Kart 8, Nintendo DS, Retro, Wii, Wii U)

Wonderful flashback...
The original SNES was the best, I rocked at that game, the N64 was great also but I wasn't as good, I had trouble with the joystick, my hand wasn't for joystick. The GameCube one was okay, not as good and my least favorite.

The Wii version, I never played because I quit playing Nintendo once the whole Wii fad took over. I'm a traditional controller type of gamer.

The Wii U version is getting some buzz, but I probably won't play it because a Wii U is still a Wii none the less.

Your loss, Mario kart Wii was excellent, loved the online competition.

A Wii U is not a Wii that's just like saying Ps4 is just a Ps3 or a Xbone is just a Xbox 360.

The comment u made suggests that u must be just a casual mobile phone gamer.
Any serious gamer has or will have a Wii U.

'I'm a traditional controller type of gamer. '

Guess what you could use to play Mario Kart Wii with?

A controller!

Jumping into the Water in the middle of the Battle Mode tracks in SNES Mario Kart was awesome.

Nobody could get you there unless they also got a feather.

It was one of those neat old gaming "tricks" that aren't around much anymore.

Mario Kart 8 comes out next week, right?

Gotta decide if I go physical or digital. I don't suppose we know what the d/l size is yet?

Physical, man, physical! Don't you want that sweet red case?

;)

A red case?
Definitely don't want that.

I'm still pissed off at Sony for changing their case design for PS3 games. I NEED SOME CONSISTENCY ON MY SHELF, GODDAMMIT.

The download size will be only 4.9GB's on eShop!!!!! :) You will also get the free game even if you download. Just register at Club Nintendo by July 31st.

Am I the only one whose fondest memories of Mario Kart involved Battle Mode? I'm surprised so few people seem unbothered by the changes to this once great mode.

I enjoyed this, thanks. I love gaming history... I wish that show Icons was still around. Sigh... :)
