GamingLives Editor-in-Chief and self-confessed graphics whore tells of his jump from PC to PS4 and how, for the first time, he's now stepped back to the last-gen and playing PS3 more than anything. Despite muddy textures and lack of antialiasing.
"Even though I was drawn to the PlayStation 4 because of the graphics and the processing power – essentially a mid-range gaming PC in a sleeker shell – it was the world of inFAMOUS that left more of a mark. Days later, the PlayStation 3 was exhumed from its dusty grave where it had lain forgotten almost since the day it arrived in the household, thanks to the arrival of inFAMOUS and inFAMOUS 2. For the first time in my life, I took my familiar seat in front of the TV and used a PlayStation 3. It was an odd experience, as I’d grown used to the heft of the Xbox 360 controller – even during PC gameplay – but I persevered with the position of the sticks, grew accustomed to shape-labelled buttons, and made my way through Empire City in the role of Cole McGrath."
The inFamous games are an important part of PlayStation history, but the series is in limbo and playing older entries isn't exactly easy.
Would like remasters of 1 and 2. I enjoyed them much more than Second Son.
1 & 2 had more of an emphasis on climbing and the traversal requires a bit more effort in a good way. It was rewarding. Second Son made climbing mostly obsolete so they put little effort into it. The traversal was just great in inFamous 1 & 2. There's a reason Sunset Overdrive copied and improved upon the induction grind mechanic.
Reminds me of how I felt about the decline of parkour and the well designed tombs (basically Prince Of Persia levels) that we saw in the Assassin's Creed games.
The story and atmosphere were also much better in 1 & 2.
Electricity is just a brilliant superpower for an open world city. It perfectly fits just like webslinging does in New York and it has many applications.
Wouldn't the onus be on the consumers? If they bought the Infamous games, then we'd have more games from that series.
I would love to see a new game but a feel that would get a response similar to Saints Row.
Loved all 3 of them. I couldn't get on with the vampire spin off though. Wish they didn't move away from cole but I didn't mind the other character.
inFAMOUS Second Son was one of PS4's best exclusives, but does it hold up a decade later?
100%, locked 60fps and still look great all these years later, same with the expansion, definitely worth a look if people haven't played it yet, not the best games ever made but a good experience, hopefully a new infamous gets released
Never was my favorite infamous, but it was definitely a graphics showcase early on PS4. Still plays well with the unlocked frame rate.
Graphically It's a absolutely stunning game that still holds up today.
Didn't have all that much depth to it forcing you to play though twice for a platinum trophy a good and bad run it was a little disappointing how similar those were Delsin would be like I'm not doing that for you in a cutscene but the cutscene would play out and force you to do it anyway just as you would of in a good run
I did like the story however it got a lot of complaints back in the day people hated playing as Delsin instead of cole despite Coles story being wrapped up.
Overall though the map wasn't overly saturated with useless points of interest there was some collectibles and things to find but nothing compared to a Ubisoft game.
I think it was a good game if a little hollow I've played it through around 4 times now since it's so short.
Also it's DLC was great a full story expansion
