E3 denies NeoGAF, says it isn't 'active media outlet'

The infamous gaming forum, NeoGAF, has been denied media passes to E3 for the first time.

Update:

Xbox's Major Nelson has invited NeoGAF to attend the Microsoft E3 conference though at this time it isn't clear if this offer will be accepted.

Well, NeoGAF is a forum.

True but Dualshockers and most media outlets link to Neogaf for stories and leaks.

Hell GAF got a documentary about its influence on the industry.

I'm not saying that they shouoldn't be accepted, but as a forum Neogaf's stories are made by its users.

So who should the ESA accept into the convention? NeoGAF's owners (most of which don't really write the stories) or all the hundreds of users that actually write the stories?

Don't get me wrong: if it was for me, I'd give em all the badges they need. It's a great forum and a great place to talk about the industry, with a pretty good moderation, which is rare, but I don't think saying that it doesn't fit the definition of "media outlet" is that strange.

Normally press badges at conventions are given so that they result in media coverage, not in forum posts, so I can see both sides of the issue.

"True but Dualshockers and most media outlets link to Neogaf for stories and leaks. "

To be fair, you could say the same about CheapAssGamer and GameFaqs too. Thats just the nature of forums, since all it takes is 1 person to realize something and post it for a site to cover it.

@ Abriael

I completely agree. A lot of these stories, be it CAG / GameFaqs / Gaf come from various members contributing things than any of the sites administration.

Major Nelson just posted this on GAF -

Nice gesture!

That's crazy because NeoGaf were allowed to attend E3 many times before

The people on GAF are going to have a field day with this news.

I believe MS shouldn't be the only company within the gaming industry trying to reach out with E3 passes..I hope many others step up and contact NeoGaf about some free passes.

Sony and Microsoft both have a history of this on various sites. It's so nice, too. Great of Nelson to do that. I wish more people could go.

mrbojingles1190d ago

I hope they don't accept. They're supposed to be against companies paying outlets off.

That's a good thing. Those people need to get off their high horses.
