PlayStationing writes: "Project Morpheus, Sony’s answer to the Oculus Rift’s monopoly on virtual reality, has been receiving a lot of positive feedback from developers and journalists alike, and Just Cause and Mad Max developer, Avalanche Studios is no different."

Yep, i didn't expect this, to get this popular now damn!!!

It's going to be hard to market I bet. PC gamers are a different breed and will have no problem picking up an Oculus, but I have a feeling Morpheus is going to probably cost the same amount of money as the PS4 itself. Maybe not but I don't think there is any doubt that this will be a pricey accessory, probably more expensive then buying a new 42" 1080p 120Hz HDTV.

All the pictures seem to feature blue lighting on it also, kind of like the DS4 lightbar... does this mean you also need to purchase the PS camera too to use? $+$+$+$+$

I'll probably pick up oculus or the morpheus, gonna have to see what content is coming

Yes I'm positive the camera is required, at least for head tracking which is one of the main features of VR. I still see 300$ price tag, of course cheaper would be better, but I don't see it. What I also see is a Morpheus + Camara + Game Bundle for around maybe 400$, of course everything is guess. I really hope VR turns out to be a success

"but I have a feeling Morpheus is going to probably cost the same amount of money as the PS4 itself."

Now your just trolling.

As you can see a development kit for Oculus Rift costs 350$. So how the heck is a regular consumer version of Morpheus going to cost 399$?

Stop trying to scare people into thinking that the headset will be unaffordable. The last time Sony said something was going to be priced well it was about the PS4. And they are saying the same thing about Morpheus as well. So it won't be 399$ for the headset especially if the competitions developer kit costs 50$ less.

Volkama1666d ago

It wont be as expensive as a new TV. The screens in these things are tiny. They will have very specific requirements, but nothing outlandish.

Persuading people that they want to wear a headset is a big task for both Morpheus and Rift. Sony may have a harder time than Occulus because their console is more typically associated with a social space (the living room).

frenchtoast1666d ago

I hope it's relatively cheap. Anything more than $150 is too much imo

I need me to get one of these.

IcicleTrepan1666d ago

as soon as they start taking preorders, I'm in.

I think that VR amd VR FPS will be huge for the industry if they made a controller/gun in one. I did a crappy training VR FPS 7 years ago and I kept thinking the vr part would be awesome for real videogames. I really want a game where you hold the gun in your hands and hold it up to your face to aim down the sights. Split the regular pad in half and build it into the gun for any FPS to become a VR FPS. I can only imagine VR fallout 4, bioshock or multiplayer FPS.

We will see who does it right and who does it first. To me its all about the gun controller they could make, but im sure it could still work with the regular controller too.

Call me crazy but I think the PS Move and Morpheus were developed with each other in mind. It may not have been the first motion control last gen and it may not do full skeletal tracking, but it was praised for being the most accurate and responsive. Plus the fact that they both use the PS Camera for tracking...

I think morpheus plus the sharpshooter attachement has what youre looking for, for right now at least.

Joe9131666d ago (Edited 1666d ago )

I agree with millerj2740 you have to go with the move and sharp shooter combo I played Killzone 3 using a sharp shooter on a 3d TV it was one of the best gaming experience I ever had. I also find it funny how I guess the pc crowd keeps saying the OR has more games but most of the developers that are making VR games say they are going to support both Morpheus and OR wich makes sense cause a developer would want to make as much money as possible.

Get those third-parties on board with it Sony. Take me into other worlds.

Off topic: Casshern is so awesome!
On topic (sorta): a project Morpheus Casshern game would be sweet

Spotie1666d ago

Original or new Casshern?

dwezel1666d ago

I was referring to the Casshern film because that's where his profile pic is from. Unfortunately, that's the only Casshern I've seen. How is Casshern sins? And do you suggest anything other Casshern based media because I really enjoyed the film?

HaveAsandwich1666d ago

oh snap. im back to being hyped.

hellzsupernova1666d ago

Hopefully they can get all First Person games on board with it cuase that would be epic, The next Fallout or Elder Scrolls game or Battlefield, War Thunder etc

Jonny5isalive1666d ago (Edited 1666d ago )

VR FPS could be huge. years ago in the crappy FPS VR army training prototype I did for a few hours, the VR part was awesome and the game part was horrible. I kept thinking it would be awesome with A real FPS like CS source.

YOu held a plastic m16 and held it up to your face and aimed down the sights of the floating gun in the game. And since it was VR the camera moved where you looked instead of being attached to the gun. The plastic gun had a stick on it to move. I hope someone splits a controller and builds it into a vr gun. FPS in VR could be so awesome.
