With the recent debacle of the omission of LGBTQ representation in Tomodachi Life, Andres explores why support shouldn't be a social and financial risk.
Why must it be forced?
Please, think of the lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders and quantumsexuals.
Okay I rescind my previous comment about Microsoft being conservative. They didn't have a problem with the gay scene in Mass Effect. Nintendo needs to get with the times.
@mikeslemonade You do realize that Microsoft banned an XBL user because he expressed his sexual orientation on his profile as "gay", right? Sure, they revised their terms of service because of it, but not until the media found it out and ran coverage all over.
Because militant Gay activists are people with no creativity and no other ideas, they could never create a game or movie or write a book themselves so they try to force and bully other people to include LGBTIQ propaganda in their intellectual property. There's no such thing as a "Gay" gamer, we're all just gamers. Given that pretty much all popular games now feature some sort of role playing or character customisation if the player is Gay their character is automatically also Gay because it's a reflection of themsleves.
* Answer this: * How many Games actually allow people of the same sex to be together or marry ? Seriously how many ? like .000001 % or something ? * Why all the sudden is everyone bashing THIS game ? People are taking advantage of a situation for THEIR OWN AGENDA's, and it's pathetic really. Equality for everybody is good, but FORCING IT, is NOT =. What if we said All Games should HAVE to ban same sex relationships.........People wouldn't like to hear that, but it's the same thing. Just because you want something, doesn't mean your entitled to get your way. You don't get to grant yourself authority just because you reason that you do. Grow up you whinny babies.
I don't care for sex in video games TBH. If they banned sex they would be doing me a favor. As a matter of fact, if they just went ahead and banned sex in video games altogether, we wouldn't be having this silly discussion.
LGBTQ....EFGHIJKLMNOP. Thats about my care level for this topic at this point.
Yeah this site is really getting bombarded with gay articles lately. Please just shut up and don't by the game if you don't want to. Nobody is forcing you!
I Don't get the fuss about homosexuals. Who cares? If a game has it why would you not buy it because it has homosexuals?
I dont think anyone cares except the media and rednecks. Remember putting two boys in the little car in the game of Life? tee hee!
Why does this question need to be asked when the answer is so obvious?
The problem is that someone would be offended regardless of what Nintendo did. Everyone is interpreting this situation like a no-brainer when it's absolutely not; there would be publicly documented consequences whether Nintendo included same-sex relationships or not. The fact that Nintendo is a Japanese company, one rooted in very traditional backgrounds with core values that are very difficult to change in short periods of time, also contributes to this. It's simply not that easy. The people who think this decision has only one real answer are not understanding that cultural backgrounds are very difficult to change quickly, and even more so, the opinions of the media and the opposing groups in question will always come into play. There was no easy solution here. Not at all.
If you want Gay characters in games make your own games and see how well they sell.
Probably a good bit. Homosexuality is being a lot more accepted. If you don't like it don't buy it.
Being gay is a sin in the lords eyes! Adam and Eve!! Not Adam and Steve!!
How do you know what is in the lord's eyes? Live and let live. You don't speak on behalf of any god or gods. Your views are just that: yours. No need to hide behind a god. I personally don't need to experience any form of gay relationship. I have ZERO interest. So if that is a major part of game play, I might just not continue playing. Having said that, I will not skip on a game because it has gay themes of gay people represented in the game. I played Dragon Age and Fable and was to put of by the inclusion of those possibilities. Just skipped pass them.
Read a bible. I'd rather believe in it and it not be true than to not believe and then need it. You can live the way you want and I will do the same.
Correction: that should read " I played Dragon Age and Fable and was NOT put off by the inclusion of those possibilities". @Sniperwithacause: You really should be using your bible to try and look down on other people. When you get to your Pearly Gates, don't they have to answer to the Almighty One. I gave you the power or authority to judge for Him/it.
It's kinda sad that religion has basically just become a tool of hate in the modern day.
The people who disagreed with me are right of course. I realized after I wrote this that western religion has pretty much always been a tool of hate and repression. Killing scientists for saying things like "the earth isn't the center of the universe" in the Renaissance. Or the Spanish Inquisition which was mostly used to steal peoples wealth and property. Or the Salem witch trials if you prefer something a little closer to home. Oh well hopefully Pope Nancy will fix this... oh wait women are not included.
Don't blame the religion, because certain people fail to follow it, and twist it for their own purposes that have nothing to do with said religion.
Too bad that religion happens to be Marxism or should I say social justice disguised as Liberalism where people use real or imagined grievances to justify government-sponsored theft, coercion, discrimination, etcetera against those they think are holding them back from achieving their fullest potential in the name of "leveling the playing field," or "fairness and equality."
What does the Q stand for?
Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transvestite Why is Q for Queer needed?
@ McScroggz Basically it is kind of a blanket term for individuals who feel they don't fall into those other categories or within the social norm. Or as cellur111 stated someone who is questioning their own sexuality. I am gay and I honestly get confused with all the sub-categories of sexual identity. Like individuals who don't want to be considered 'he' or 'her' or don't want to have a label at all. It makes no difference to me however how a person chooses to be labeled or not.
That's understandable. Thanks for the enlightenment :)
Q is for questions like people questioning their sexuality. I guess it could also be Queer too.
Personally i think their should be an option regarding life simulation or any game that focuses on relationships. At the same time i know it's impossible to make everyone happy. If you do put the option you make lgbtq people happy, but you upset people who live by conservative values and if you don't then you upset lgbtq to make conservatives happy. Either way you upset someone when it comes to this subject. It's sucks for people who want it though.
Developers should feel free to include it if they want. But don't make someone else out to be evil because they failed to include it in their game
I just don't think that this is the right forum or vehicle to address those issues! I support equal rights for all and gays deserve the opportunity to be just as miserable as the heterosexuals getting married :) Jk But seriously, video game forums are not a stepping stone to winning over the White House and Congress on this issue.
Devs can make what ever they want and I am for that, but personally I could not find a story about a gay love story enjoyable. That does not mean they should be made, just I will not be one to buy the game. Perhaps that is the risk that many other gamers may have the same reason as me.
It's actually quite depressing to read some of the comments on here. To think that you guys are a small pool of potential customers is genuinely scary with some of the bigoted nonsense you come out with. Some of you are saying it's forced? Absolute rubbish. If the LGBT community are represented in reality, what is so wrong with us being represented in virtual reality? The reason it's so prevalent in the media is because there are a TON of people who are against it. If people didn't care and just accepted it, the media would have nothing to talk about. This Nintendo case is a little iffy. They're saying they don't want to make a 'social commentary'. Well too late - they already have done by not including the option of same sex relationships. If it's a choice within the game, you guys shouldn't have anything to moan about. Your comments are the reasons why people are so afraid to come out. Why would they, when they have people saying "Adam and Eve!! Not Adam and Steve!!"...with SEVEN people agreeing. Just shocking.
Many people don't accept it yet though, and it's inclusion would definitely bring about social commentary. Something Nintendo didn't want. The people that seem to believe that the gay rights movement is now a completely success, and that everything is peachy now are about as naive as those who believe racism is over because we elected a black president. Nintendo didn't make this a social commentary, the people upset about it not being included did, along with all these articles most of which are likely only on the bandwagon for hits. Some sites are using this "controversy" and your own arguments for their own gain. I guarantee you, if Nintendo included it, and when the outcry came, these sites would be singing a very different tune. Nintendo went a traditional route. The reason it's traditional is because that's what society considers to be normal. There are many that are accepting. I consider myself one of them. But, I am also a realist, and know that this whole thing is just screaming for attention and a completely backwards way of trying to get one groups agenda into the mainstream off the backs of someone else. Changes will come. It took decades for the civil rights movement and the women's liberation front to achieve only a part of their goals. The people upset about this need to pick their battles though. A game aimed at kids is not the place to start and will only end in disaster. I said elsewhere, why aren't these groups going after Disney for not including gay relationships in their shows for kids/teens? You know they never would in the current social environment, and you know what kind of fallout it would bring for them. If you don't, then you are deluded.
I still feel that racism is more of an issue. I remember tons of people bashing Lightbox because Starhawks main character is Black. They said some thing like "I am not buying this game because I am a white male that can't relate to a black male." What does that even have to do with the game?
I guess that means they feel they arent playing as them selves when its a person of another race or color I should say
