The higher resolution character models featured in the PlayStation 4 remaster of The Last of Us will be "on par" with those featured in the PS3 version's cutscenes, creative director Neil Druckmann has told EDGE.
They should call it the Definitive version already.
That's great. The character models in the cutscenes were absolutely amazing, sometimes i would get distracted by them due to how great they were (Dat camp fire scene with David). Awesome to know the in-game character models will look as good as those. I just traded in my copy of the PS3 version to put towards the PS4 version. Can't wait to go through the campaign again.
I got lucky, I got my PS3 copy just a few months ago from newegg, and it was so late in the mail that I got a refund from them for it being lost in mail. Then it arrived like the next day after they issued my refund. So, I basically got LOU for free on PS3. I was only halfway through when I heard about a PS4 version, and I haven't played it since, I wanna finish it on PS4.
yeah if the ps3 Power can do that. Then ps4 need too do better. Infamous looked good but the character models here and infamous looked almost the same... not gameplay but cutscenes
Sure enough, those cutscenes were practically CGI quality. Part of why I wanted a 24fps mode was because of how smooth they looked.
"Our cinematics are now running at 1080p and 60fps, and that involved rendering them all from scratch," he continued. "It's interesting that now [instead of a technical bottleneck], the bottleneck is 'Can we fit all this on the disc?'" Now this is what I'm talking about! I can't wait!!!
Anyone whoever said that remakes and remasters don't take effort don't know what they're talking about.
And that my friends... Is all i needed to hear.
damn that's nice can't wait to play it
I'm really looking forward to this.
"It's interesting that now [instead of a technical bottleneck], the bottleneck is 'Can we fit all this on the disc?'" He's joking right?
Actually no, he's not joking... You see when you take an image of a character, and let's say it's 172k and you up the detail, that character becomes 500k to 1.4 easy, depending on how detailed you made it. So now remember Last of Us was 26GB and a pretty big game, there are a lot of cut-scenes, so if you go back and increases the size of every cut scene by redoing the entire cut scene with much higher detail on all characters and in-game you can easily start to run into a space problem, so 172k to 500k could increase size from 26 to 41GB And Games on PS4 are still only 50GB max.. So more then enough room right, well remember this is also coming with all the DLC content on one disc.. Now you may indeed be getting real close to that 50GB. DLC was about 2-3GB, now increase it to 4 to 6GB - and you start to see how it could get close to the 50GB. -But I think they will be fine, I think they will be able to squeeze it all in. .____........___... .____||......||.......|___|| ||.........___||............ ||
I thought PS4 bluray disk capacity was 100Gb....where did I read that
But the ps4 can read 100 GB disc
Sorry but... Firstly often cut scenes are actually just video so only the res and frame rate of that video will make a difference to file size. If in this instance the scenes are generated "in engine" on the fly you are only talking about a bump in size of the original data for the model, texture etc. That data isn't repeated for every frame of every scene.
I know you were just making examples there, but 500k polys per character? That seems pretty optimistic, lol.
@ BadlyPackedKeebab -very good point, In the article he is talking about increasing the detail to match the cut-scenes.. I realized that the way I said that It sounds like i'm saying the cut-scene is taking up space - what I meant is if the game - in-game detail has been stepped up to cut-scene levels you can now see how you can run into a space problem. as a 172k character jumps to 500k or 1.4 and then the environment now needs more space adding size. Maybe not that much but more none the less. Also I believe the PS4 uses uncompressed audio which uses less CPU power but eats up disc space. @ Conzul Standard ones hold 50GB all PS4 games are single layer 50 GB Blu-Ray if I'm correct. Maybe that was a dual layered 100GB but as far as I know, no games are released on a dual layer 100GB disc. @ Give_me_head_strong yes I was just making an example, I have no idea what the poly-count will be, just thought it would be really high if your going to hit the cut scenes fidelity in-game probably be more like 250, but who knows they were saying Uncharted four was trying to do a Million polys per character, which seems crazy insane, so who knows.. source - http://www.officialplaystat... .____........___... .____||......||.......|___|| ||.........___||............ ||
Blu-ray discs have 25GB per layer, so the current discs are dual layer discs already. They have created experimental versions that have had upwards of 10 layers, but not without custom drives to be able to read them.
@ Lord Maim oh ok good to know, yeah just looked it up on the blu-ray site, the 25 is single layer and 50GB is the dual layer. -so I guess there is no chance/ or highly unlikely that we will see a 100 GB disc since it's already a dual layer at 50GB. .____........___... .____||......||.......|___|| ||.........___||............ ||
I wonder if Sony gave the PS4 the capability to read BDXL formatted discs? It would mean for a serious advantage if true. Even a double layer disc would be more than 50gb if they went that route. Gateway MT6706 2008
I preordered the online version... now hearing all these data sizes... I hope it downloads prior to release or something.
cutscenes were videos. not sure what res though but i am presuming it was 1080p. So not going to have any differences there.
If thats the case just include the season pass on ps4 for free no?
Here's an easy fix. Why not make all the DLC content downloadable?
@ plaZeHD That's a great option.. Just one problem, and I know it's hard to believe but a lot of people don't have fast Internet, (10 to 15mps down or higher) (we who do have great connection 30 or higher forget it's not like that all over the place) so having all the content on the disc is a big plus... So while those with slower connection (5 to 7mps down) can play online fine, downloading could take those people days, no one want's to download for days, that would be crazy. So that's why they try to squeeze it all on the disc. .____........___... .____||......||.......|___|| ||.........___||............ ||
I was always wishing the cut scene and in-game character models would look alike. Now my wish has come true.
didn't play this on PS3. Glad I waited. Still hoping for a current gen Dark Souls 2
Buy the PC version or wait for Project Beast on PS4 (which looks a lot like a Demon's Souls followup).
this could be off topic, but now that you bring it up (Demon Souls) what happen to that Capcon game, that looked like Demon Souls. ...."can't recall its name right now"
@onyoursistersback you're thinking of deep down, and its still in development for ps4. open beta coming this summer. Keep in mind though, the game still hasn't been confirmed for a western release. source: http://www.vg247.com/2014/0...
Hope you enjoy it! I played it on PS3. It was an amazing experience. :)
Damn so rebuying now Rinnegan: Teleportation to my local Gamestop (Please read Naruto manag 674 if you are confused).
Still haven't played it yet. Glad I didn't :)
why is that this is the game I'm most waiting for? I have the platinum also I have the Joel edition and digitally as well :)
Same here, I have the Post Pandemic Edition and survival editions, played it to death (Platinum included) and still cannot wait for this.
I can't wait to see those bloater particle effects again and molotovs.
The PS3 in game models were already awesome, and I was totally mesmerized by the cutscenes. The visuals in this Remaster are going to be lush. Seriously...I can't wait to take another journey with Joel and Ellie :)))
Disagree if you like but you'll see when it releases that it's true.
And only 30 FPS, which is "fine" apparently. So much for "next gen" 60 FPS 1080p.
Care to explain why? If your going to call bullshit at least make a claim, otherwise you might as well just be a troll.
@kingdom18 He can't make a claim because he has nothing to back it up
I was able to play a little bit of this game on my buddies PS3 a couple of months ago. I really can't wait to play it on my PS4.
It seems unnecessary to remake this game so soon. I can understand a 5 or 10 yr anniversary remake, but c'mon! I would rather they devote their attention to making a sequel, a new UC, or a new IP altogether. Cutting your teeth on the new console by remaking a last gen game just seems so non-ambitious.
I really would love a god of war 1 remake in gow 3 engine.
It isn't a remake. They released the game only a year ago, so this is just the same game on a different platform. The team just kept working on it.
They have already said that this will give them a nice opportunity to get to know the ps4 hardware before starting work on a new game that uses the ps4 from the start.
And to think I had a lot of disagrees when I said this a couple of months ago. The developers themselves made a comment like this some time back when it was announced.
It's about time to let it go... I'll never understand why people like "Mr. BS" above get so offended when they get disagrees. Let. It. GO!
I wasn't offended. I find the ND fanboys entertaining with how they disagree with anything said about the company that isn't being a complete suck up to them.
I don't get offended by insignificant disagrees, I just pointed out how people disagree with facts. Even in that little bit they have shown you can see it is very close if not exactly like the cinematics in the PS3 version and that vid came after they stated it themselves, they are saying it again and still you have people calling it BS. Seriously, if I gave a fck about disagrees I wouldn't troll sometimes just for the fun of it and when I troll, I troll with facts which is even more effective on the targeted audience lol Anyway, the thing is, people that disagree with facts is just plain stupid.
I totally agree Bro, here bubble up. let it go MR. Imsomnia
"Let it go, let it go! Can't hold it back anymore Let it go, let it go! Turn away and slam the dooooooor!" XD
Really hope so.
Wonder what PS4's cutscene models will look like, unless it looks the same as the in-game models which would be no problem.
The original models for the cutscenes were ultra high definition versions of the in game assets rendered offline. I can't see them being able to improve on it that much myself. The main improvement will be the visuals in game I guess.
Just got around to playing the Left Behind DLC last night. Holy shit was it good. Brought me back to how good the Last of US was overall. I'd do another campaign playthrough with enhanced visuals in a flat second.
Maybe it's just me but i don't want on par i want surpass.
i wonder if theyll do anything with the controller, if theyll add something like photo mode, who knows :3 should be cool anyhow
One of the best games ever made for the PS3, so I definitely cannot wait to play it again for PS4, especially if the in-game character models look as great as they did during the PS3 cutscenes, those were jaw dropping.
You know the great thing about these "remastered" PS4 editions? I never played the originals! I have yet to play Tomb Raider, and I have yet to play "Last of Us". So, to me, being able to experience these games for the very first time on a next generation platform is a real big win! I am sure others are out there who are like I am and haven't yet played these games, and who will buy these as soon as they are released! I am very much looking forward to the experience!
PS3: 512mb of RAM PS4: 8GB of RAM Yet they can't make this game look next gen but only as good as a cutscene?
Your complete lack of comprehension is astonishing.
Because RAM means everything...
Looking forward to this. Hopefully their will be a discount for previous buyers of the ps3 version
The game looked gorgeous already, im jeleous of people who didnt get a chance to play it on PS3
Wonder if a game can win GOTY two years in a row... Nonetheless, very tempting.
those beard hairs!
we already knew this.
