Yeesh. Wonder how Reggie will address this at E3.

thorstein1503d ago

Not sure this is good news for Nintendo, but that number is sold through, correct?

So, the Console has sold through over 1.5-2 million more consoles(because they won't tell us) than X1s that have reached retail.

No one ever seems to know what X1 has sold through to end users.

iamnsuperman1503d ago (Edited 1503d ago )

I don't think it is sold through. The figures come from financial data so it is related to shipped as shipped=sold for Nintendo (I could be wrong though).

AGaryColemanClone1503d ago (Edited 1503d ago )

The Xbox was at 3 million at the start of 2014. And it has only sold 711k in the US. It has been bombing everywhere in Europe outside the UK.

That puts the Xbox One at 3.7 million plus some small amount for mostly the UK in 2014.

The Xbox One has a long way to go before it reaches Wii U numbers at its currently poor rate of sales.

Both Nintendo and Sony back in 2006 made public statements that they only report actual sold to customers numbers. Microsoft is the only company that plays the silly game of trying to pretend their shipments to retailers are actual sales to customers.

ats19921503d ago

@ AGaryColmanClone

Way to make up numbers man.

Plus last generation in the early years of the ps3 sony would say how many units they shipped all the time quit making up lies.

AGaryColemanClone1503d ago (Edited 1503d ago )

Way to go ats1992 - you're 0/2

"We calculate our install base by 'sell through' and have done for the last four years I believe", we asked for a little additional clarification...

"We classify 'sell through' as the number of units consumers have actually purchased from retail. 'Sell in' is the number of units we've sold to retail."

And Nintendo does the same.

And LOL at claiming actual sales numbers for the Xbox One from NPD are 'made up'.

dodgemoose1503d ago (Edited 1503d ago )

As dude above me says, that last part is absolute bs. When Sony was struggling with the PS3 at the beginning of the last generation they would only ever report on units shipped, not direct sales to consumers.

AGaryColemanClone1503d ago

dodgemoose, give it a rest.

You just look stupid trying to argue about something that has been both Nintendo and Sony's official corporate policy since 2006.

SardoNumspa1503d ago

It is right there in Sony's official financial reports:

"From FY07 the method of reporting unit sales was changed from shipments to recorded sales (FY06 reclassified)"

End of debate. Sony only reports sold to customer numbers since the start of 2007.

I use to have Nintendo's linked but can't find it right now, but they made the same change as Sony did.

georgeenoob1503d ago (Edited 1503d ago )

Pretty sad we got fanboys that just can't resist talking about the X1, even when the article has nothing to do with MS. Some are just so obsessed with X1, yet they don't own one. Why?

"dodgemoose, give it a rest. "

Oh the irony.

You didn't finish the quote. I wonder why. Do you ever see me obsessed with PS4 anywhere near as much as Sony fans are obsessed with X1? No.

They find MS so threatening that they devout half their day trying to convince themselves and others that PS4 is better. Pretty sad.

MysticStrummer1503d ago (Edited 1503d ago )

"Pretty sad we got fanboys…"

Oh the irony indeed.

Wow check out the PS3 vs 360 numbers after a comparable amount of time on the market.

ziggurcat1503d ago

@ georgeenoob:

"Do you ever see me obsessed with PS4 anywhere near as much as Sony fans are obsessed with X1? No."

you talk about sony/PS4 in 7 out of your last 11 comments, so the answer to that question is actually, "Yes."

OT: 6.17 million after over a year is pretty dismal compared to the ~6-7 million PS4s or ~4-5 million xbones sold in about 6 months.

Pogmathoin1503d ago

Oh god Coleman.... Yes PS is doing great now, fair play to them, but early in PS3 days, they only reported shipped, along with PS2..... At least be honest and hold your hands up, not have them down holding something....

GameNameFame1503d ago

"Do you ever see me obsessed with PS4 anywhere near as much as Sony fans are obsessed with X1? No."
You actually are.

LOL. You actually are from your recent comment history.

It is almost as if you are trying to do a damage control.

The backlash of the journos still salty Nintendo isn't giving them first look at their E3 news on stage... reverting back to Nintendoomed click-bait.

Magicite1503d ago

The Mario have been lets milk whatever is left, oh wait, we still can milk Mario a bit more (Mario Kart 8).

BattleN1503d ago

Hey it's quality milk better than koolaid I say!

Benjaminkno1503d ago

Do you play old God of War, Uncharted, COD, Halo, or AC?

No, but Super Mario Bros. 3's replay value can't be erased by a sequel. All those other games become obsolete. Nintendo games don't.

Rehash your bowl.

jcnba281502d ago

Nintendo releases one Mario Kart per console, that one game every 6 or so years. Yeah that's totally milking...

BattleN1503d ago

He will announce the PeaceofChit U His body is ready to drop dem bombs!

kenshiro1001502d ago

george, you troll Sony articles and yet you're calling out fanboys?

Pot, meet kettle.

Imagine an army of Wii Universal soldiers marching as to war to e3. Now that would be epic

NagaSotuva1503d ago

How the mighty have fallen. :(

iamnsuperman1503d ago (Edited 1503d ago )

I hope no-one take offence to this (and they really shouldn't) but Nintendo have not been in that powerful home console number one/significant position for quite some time. They were lucky with the Wii (I doubt even Nintendo anticipated the success of that machine considering they under manufactured amount wise the system; it was popular but they could have improved supply for it) and this is the anomaly. Nintendo systems haven't done that well since the Fifth generation launched

It isn't bad nor am I having a go at Nintendo but your statement is wrong in relation to Nintendo home consoles. They haven't fallen because there was nothing substantial to fall from

LOL_WUT1503d ago

Unfortunately a shadow of their former self ;)

thehobbyist1503d ago (Edited 1503d ago )

It's not fallen until they prematurely kill the Wii U(Prematurely meaning before announcing their next home console)
P.S. Not gonna happen

UltraNova1503d ago

What should happen is to get those check books out and use some of that cash they got last gen and buy 3rd party AAA support, a lot actually, then they might sway some of us to take the dive.

Mario (and its 16 variations)just wont cut it anymore.

stragomccloud1503d ago

Things aren't looking great. No doubt Smash and Mario Kart will move a lot of units, but this is sadly going to be Nintendo's worst selling console to date. I just can't see it surpassing the Gamecube. That said, the Wii U has an awesome lineup, and Nintendo keeps making brilliant games for the device. As a PC gamer, the Wii U stands as the only absolute must own console with PS4 coming in at a close but no cigar second. PS4 will be a must own in a few years though, once it's built up its own nice collection of must have exclusives.

OmegaShen1503d ago

No, they made something far worst, virtual boy.

ScubaSteve11503d ago

They need a pokemon version for the wii u instead if being on the handhelds.

thehobbyist1503d ago

Sadly, the director for the Pokemon games said he won't do that :/

NightStalker331503d ago

He will the moment he realizes that Nintendo has a crap-ton of cash to invest.
