It appears Nintendo has been very busy lately.
Maybe this goes alongside the new hardware rumours. Maybe a new handheld?
I think your right. Maybe this has something to do with Handheld or maybe cloud tech.
It won't be a new handheld, but maybe some sort of health tech, as they mentioned this in a presentation a few months back.
Just keep your hopes low and you will never be dissapointed with Nintendo. For it could be it can be 100m on nothing that we will see as a end result.
I think gaffyh is right. Nintendo are going big in health apps / hardware http://www.theguardian.com/...
Cloud tech? The heck you get that idea from?
no cloud and no hardware for nintendo this year
Nintendo bought out platinum games! I said it first! they will definitely make Nintendo stronger and more appealing to the older crowd like myself.
Perhaps they purchased the bones of Bob Hoskins.
The 3DS was just released 3 years ago, and the Wii U is 2 years old. I think it is too early to make another hardware/handheld. Remember that Sega failed because they made add-ons and new hardware one after another to be on par with the competition. That confused consumers and made them lose confidence...
You're kidding yourself if you think it's anything more than the QoL system. A new handheld is just about the worst prediction you could make with the 3DS performing so well.
i dont believe its for game centric hardware. The 3ds is way too big (and young) to drop and they dont seem to have plans on abandoning the wii u. If they launched a new system the cycle would basically start all over lol, probably even worse lol. They have a hard enough time supporting their current 2 platforms. Its QOL.
They could be re-designs of them, which would still be classed as new as they would be "new" models.
isn't that what Apple does every year?
They already confirmed there is no new hardware
They confirmed there wouldnt be any at e3, they always have new hardware in development.
Nintendo acquired the kleenex company. Now they'll have an endless supply of tissues to wipe away the tears of failure.
LOL good one! +funny ;)
Haha not funny.. Least they have money to spend unlike sony
@Mikito11 So the $380,000,000 that sony spent to aquire gaikai, where did that come from? Lol
Wow, I guess Nintendo ought to cry a river with how successful the 3DS was. Some failure, right? Please troll somewhere else.
Look at all those disagrees! Lol fanboys
That would be a great acquisition for Nintendo if true, considering Kleenex is a multi-billion dollar company. Getting them for $100 mil would be a steal.
Maybe it's a brain for Iwata so Nin isn't run into the ground.
I think its the plot next to landfill where ET cartridges are buried. Digging has already begun.
Yup, they are going to bury the unsold Wii U's.. ;)
Sounds like they might have got themselves a big studio.
Nintendo have actually gone on record discussing an idea to release new hardware, totally different from what's available in emerging markets thing is from what they say it sounds like it'd be exclusively released in emerging markets.
wonder what kind of tech is this.
The new handheld, or an completely different project?
May be related to their health platform.
Nintendo Galaxy S5? It has a nice ring to it.
New handheld I'm thinking
for anyone thinking new handheld think again. 3DS still has titles for 2014-15.
Which you could easily play on your new handheld like how you can play DS games on the 3DS @Below Oh I do realise but what I was trying to point out that your making it look like just because an old console/hand-held is getting games a new one can't come out.
You do realize Nintendo hanhelds span 6-8 years exception of the GBA which was 4 but reach 81m units.
IMO Nintendo's new blue ocean will be in the form social media utilizing QOL. Non-gamer will use Nintendo's QOL social media to better their health while getting to know Nintendo characters in small free mini games. This will then loop back to the Wii U with Wii U Fit bring new consumers to the video market. Just like the Wii Fit did for the Wii.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Google is also involved with this....
3DS Redesign a.k.a. Pro Version? Dual Analog and big OLED screens?
I just came a little. hope your right
Im gonna say it right here and right now. Whats today's date? 5/7/2014 I think Nintendo might be considering getting into the smartphone business and before you think that's crazy, just think about all the talk that's come out of Big N HQ in the last couple of months. We like to find our own blue ocean - not compete with others They don't have to be a vid game company only - They can dabble anywhere they like including health which for all intents and purposes they should. I'm sure they've mined more data in this than most consoles makers. They want to put their IP's on smart devices but are hesitant to do so on other companies tech. I have a suspicion that they are going the Amazon route and getting into the Smart phone arena.
They're an entertainment company
I don't know. Health isn't entertainment. I think they might see this as a way of pushing their IP's further. They just don't like putting their stuff on other peoples tech. Think about it, its not far fetched. Hell Iwata just said, they weren't beholden to just making games. http://www.gamespot.com/art... I know it sounds a little out there, but they got their eyes on something other than just the latest Zelda game, that's for sure, and its not just health games or whatever.
Everything about Nintendo is a mystery, not just this acquisition. They need to be more upfront about what they're doing, cuz they're losing support like crazy.
new handheld the size of the WiiU gamepad and able to download and play WiiU games on it also have an HDMI out on it
Maybe the bought out the company for the patent dispute on the 3DS so they don't have to pay the royalties?
They won that patent dispute. Case closed, they don't need to buy the company to shut them up, the courts already did that.
They won multiple cases over patent disputes, but not the one for the 3DS stereoscopic camera and are paying a royalty on every 3DS sold.
@gerbwmu - ahh gotcha.
With Rift and Morpheus in the ring, could this be the fortold reincarnation of.... Virtual Boy!?!?!?!?!?!
Why do I always see dipsh*ts who think Nintendo will make another console/handheld THIS EARLY in the lifecycles? Use your heads, people. Sega isn't around much due to this very same thing. Do you think Nintendo after almost 40+ years in the business would stoop to that level of stupidity?
Some terrible predictions in here. Nintendo can't be looking to release a successor to Wii U because then that platform will just inherit the Wii U's problems. Nintendo 3DS is doing perfectly fine so there's not going to be a successor to that either. So yeah, QoL is all I expect.
People just being ignorant here on N4G that's all!
dont think is has anything to do with gaming at all.
I hope its some RAREWARE IPs. BK coming back home would be a dream come true.
Wii U ADVANCED relaunch I couldn't find it but Ninety just patent "advanced"
Hmmm, it'll be interesting to see what it is, definitely can't wait to see what Nintendo has in store for E3, maybe they can finally give us a release window for Zelda Wii U, or Mario Party 10, love playing those games with the wife and son.
I think they brought either a game company or the rights too a game franchise.
100M? Nintendo can't afford it
Obviously they can because they spent it, Nintendo probably doesn't feel doomed today.
They had a huge war chest full of the money the Wii and DS printed out over a decade or so. This is pretty much the last time they can take such big risks if something doesn't succeed, so it'll be interesting to see what they're up to...
Hahahahaha, your absolutely out of touch if you think that. http://wiiudaily.com/2014/0... This was just 4 months ago, with nintendos stock....just STOCK....valued at 17.7 billion. Even with the hit they took recently, (lil over 1bil) Nintendo notoriously banks a lot of their money. http://www.gamesradar.com/n... Trust me, 100mil is pocket lint.
Maybe a new studio they purchased or IP ?
should be spending that warchest on new studios to provide games for the WiiU
New hardware does not require a 100 million dollar purchase. This is an acquisition.
Its more than likely QOF tech. Quality Of Life Tech...
It's not a mystery that money was spent on building a new R&D facility in Kyoto.
Maybe acquisitions to strengthen their online capabilities for the Wii U and 3DS? Such as infrastructures like computer servers, etc.
