Sony: “We Have to do Something Different to get AAA Games on Vita”

PSLS: Elsewhere, someone commented on how the PS Vita needs “a few good AAA games that are actually developed by the proper studios, and not farmed out to smaller devs who can’t quite capture what makes a series work on consoles.” In his reply to this, Mesa touched upon how getting AAA titles on the Vita requires them to do something different.

Like "Stop trying to make AAA PS3 and PS4 games into AAA Vita games."

I want more exclusive software for Vita.

objdadon1261d ago

What does this mean? Before I bought my vita I was promised a console like experience with console like games! I want a real cod! A real 2k! A real madden! Battlefield!

guitarded771261d ago

@ objdadon

I know what you mean, and I've been getting all that with remote play to/from PS4/Vita. Personally, I don't even know what I want from Vita anymore. I liked Gravity Rush, LBP, Uncharted, etc the most on the platform. Sony has been making good high quality exclusive experiences for Vita, but 3rd party high quality experiences are missing. Maybe that's what I want... I really don't know.

Mr_Writer851261d ago (Edited 1261d ago )

@objdadon

He means stop making PS3 games on the Vita.

Example Borderlands 2, why? Why not make a Borderlands game that plays like BL2 but has a story JUST for Vita?

Look at GTA stories on PSP it had its own story but the maps where just like the PS2 games.

Or even like Uncharted Golden Abyss that's a AAA game just for Vita.

Darkstares1261d ago

Then when those games don't generate good sales they port those Vita games to the PS3 or now the PS4.

DanteVFenris6661261d ago

@writer85 not trying to be rude but I'm sure you can figure that one out. The vita doesn't sell enough for companies to make a dive for it/risk. So with borderlands 2 all they need is probably 1 guy(I'm a CS student and don't see why it would take more with the software and programs we have now) to port it. This would take a couple months. Or as you suggested they could make a new borderlands hire 80 people and have it done in three years. Paying for 80 people(intelligent high paying individuals I might add) is a lot more expensive then a handful of people for a couple months.

I for one though I'm excited for borderlands 2 on vita. Finally I good rpg on the go.

ifistbrowni1260d ago

I just bought a Vita and am currently playing Uncharted Golden Abyss. I am surprised at how good it is.

Since Bend had done such a good job, I think i'd be completely okay with Bend Studio taking over the Uncharted Series allowing Naughty Dog to work on TLOU or new IPs.

Time to start subsidizing people to make games for your handheld.

TrendyGamers1261d ago

I think Sony just needs to take a big risk and fund a AAA 3rd party title like GTA.

Beetey1261d ago

I completely agree. It's my understanding that the system is currently doing better than it ever has. The time just feels right to take the plunge and fund a few AAA titles. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving all the indie games and ports (Borderlands, Mortal Kombat, etc.), but those unfortunately do not sell systems near as well as exclusives. Just do it Sony!

e-p-ayeaH1261d ago (Edited 1261d ago )

Final Fantasy would be a better bet i know alot people that bought the PSP just for Crisis Core.

levian1261d ago

While I do (sort of) agree, with the current state of SE and the opinion of the FF series in general is pretty low after FF13. That said, I'd still love to see a FF title on the Vita

ColeMacGrath1261d ago

M-monster hunter as well :(

OldDude1261d ago

I don't think Sony has a ton of cash to be funding third parties with. I agree it would be nice, but I doubt it will happen. They just cant keep up with Microsoft's cash. Thats how MS goes to market, they literally buy market share by outspending the competition.

Blues Cowboy1261d ago

Agreed. Money. Spend some money.

Personally I couldn't care less - I'm a JRPG and niche gaming fan who has already got his money's worth from the Vita and then some. But it definitely needs star power.

porkChop1261d ago

Or, you know, Sony could just resurrect their GTA-like IP and bring it to the Vita? The Getaway, anyone? Just imagine the possibilities.

Hopefully the PSV-2000 spurs some international sales spikes and raises the floor a bit for the system. That would help developers to take notice.

Tapani1261d ago (Edited 1261d ago )

I agree with the first three comments! I had to give you all a bubble :)

How about an exclusive and full-fledged Souls game for Vita? I bet that would sell a few units.

dodgemoose1261d ago (Edited 1261d ago )

I have no doubt Borderland 2's reception will play a very big role in determining the future of third party support for the Vita.

Edit:

When he says that the 'economics simply don’t work with the traditional process', it just means there isn't enough Vitas out to justify the creation of expensive AAA titles (built from the ground up specifically for Vita). From a business stand point, it makes complete sense. At this stage the risk simply outweighs the reward.

I'll probably purchase BL2 just to show my support for the Vita. Hopefully its relatively well received critically. From the footage I've been on YouTube, it looks decent. As long as it isn't compared too harshly to its PS3 counterpart or the PC version, should score in the late 60s or early 70s on Metacritic.

Bleucrunch1261d ago

Sony needs to get more action adventure and RPG games on its hand held console. They also need games that beg for multiplayer (Socom anyone??) feed this beast as the Vita has the power to do all of this. Also stop with the spin offs please, make games that are only for the Vita. What I mean by this is having a game released for the PS3/PS4 and having an alternate version for the Vita does not make one want to go out and buy a Vita. It actually insults the Vita and the gamers, but if you make games that are built for the Vita with no other version for the PS3/PS4 THEN you will have people purchasing this console. Flood the market with good games for it so that we as gamers do not know which was is up because there are so many good games to get...Lets Market this console Sony. #ComeOn

pwnsause_returns1261d ago (Edited 1261d ago )

making a new ip from the ground up as a shooter would help as well.

one2thr1261d ago (Edited 1261d ago )

Off topic: I remember seeing a Gravity Rush/Daze 2 teaser trailer, Im hoping that it didnt get cancelled.

Ninjatogo1261d ago

We'll probably find out at E3, given last time they only gave us a small teaser. Hopefully it's still alive.

Inception1261d ago

I'll doubt they canceled it. Siren team under Keiichiro Toyama is a small team, but sony never canceled their project and the team always delivered.

Gravity Rush also are one of the well received vita exclusive games from sony studios beside Uncharted GA, KZ: Merc, Tearaway, LBP, and Soul Sacrifice. The fans wants a sequel and sony granted their wish. So i really doubt sony will canceled it when sony themself wants to provide games for vita as much as they can.

tiffac0081261d ago

No worries, Gravity Rush has been one of the more recognizable games on the Vita, its footprints are all over the place from Destiny of Spirits, Hot Shot Golf and Ragnarok Odyssey ACE and the sequel came about because of the high demand from fans to make one.

Sony knows they have a cult following with the game. Last thing they want would be to insult such loyal fans by canceling the game.
