"Such a thing is completely impossible, of course. Or is it?" - Grab It debates the possibility of the game existing following the release of an excellent fan made trailer.
They've done an excellent job on this. If I was Nintendo I'd be looking at it and going... well, maybe we should.
I cannot believe this is a thing...
It wouldn't be viable; Nintendo doesn't want their series' on phones, so unless the Angry Birds guys would do a 3DS/Wii U version and be content with that, they wouldn't get anything. And that's how it should be; first party IP's shouldn't be handed out like candy to any system just because there's a bunch of developers that are crying for something popular enough to get them a few more dollars. Brand value is more important than a few short-term dollars, and Pokemon shouldn't be allowed to be thrown into the same mold as phone games if it wants to keep that brand value.
Do you feel Star Wars or Angry Birds was devalued by the pairing? What about Sonic + Mario + Olympics. I think you raise an interesting point, but I am not 100% sure I agree. Given the sheer popularity of Angry Birds and the general polish of those titles, I would have thought you could do it in a way that didn't devalue either brand. And let's be honest, there have been some shocking Pokémon spin-offs over the years. Theoretically the game could work on either Wii U or 3DS with their touchscreens. And I reckon this game would sell gazillions and not really change how people felt about either IP. I'm not sure I want it to happen, but I would not be surprised if it did... and did huge business.
It's not the angry birds ip that I take issue with, so much. It's the stigma that comes with phone games as a whole, in the eyes of most of the community. Nintendo has to deal with a lot of false stigmas as it is; the last thing they need is to give haters more ammo by giving them a reason to say "Nintendo's games are just glorified phone games, just look at angry birds pokemon! If they can do that, they should just make Zelda and Mario for phones and ditch consoles altogether!" Granted,I know that we already have some idiots saying things similar to that effect, (I'm looking at you, Micheal Pachter!) but the last thing we need is to increase the amount of idiots chanting such naive drivel...
Yeah I think that is fair enough argument to be honest. I suspect we'll never know for sure, but you do make a good point.
I think that would actually have a lot of potential.
