Why Am I Still Hearing That The Wii U Needs More Games?

MVGN writes: "Super Mario 3D World, The Wonderful 101, Game and Wario, Need For Speed Rivals, The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD, Rayman Legends, Zombi U, Assassin’s Creed III and IV, Batman: Arkham Origins, Call of Duty, New Super Mario U, New Super Luigi U, NintendoLand, Darksiders 2, Dues Ex, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Wii Fit U, Just Dance, Resident Evil, Injustice Gods Among Us, Lego City Undercover, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Splinter Cell, Pikmin 3 (have you had enough yet) and the COUNTLESS, quality eShop titles places Nintendo’s new system as a game machine with plenty of must have titles… But, just today, I still hear the moans about the system NOT having games. I simply do not get it." (Game & Wario, Super Mario 3D World, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, The Wonderful 101, Wii U, ZombiU)

Yea that's the typical argument. You don't like something or the landscape of something currently, you're a hater.

Hey you don't like Obama guess what? your a hater.

if you don't like chicken noodle soup, you're a hater.

if you don't like wearing pants, guess what? YOU'RE A HATER....

If you don't like what the Wii U has to offer you have poor taste in games.

Well technically, ALL the new consoles need more games. They are all still young, let them grow.
Metallox  +   573d ago
Marketing failure from Nintendo.
Summons75  +   573d ago
that plus intelligence failure from haters since they are so blind to not actually do research. Why should nintendo hand wrap and deliver every bit of information when these haters won't even meet them halfway and have an open mind, do reasearch, play the Wiiu/games before talking smack about it.
Joe913  +   573d ago
Because it is Nintendo wants to sell consoles they need to get the word out with all the cool news coming out about the Xbox one and PS4 why would anyone go looking for news about Nintendo. Totally disagree with you it is not my job to talk myself into buying a Nintendo console it is Nintendo's job to sell it to me and if they can not I go and buy a console from another company that is how business works.
GotHDGame  +   573d ago
That is exactly the problem. Nintendo direct is not getting info out to the masses. I also do not think a happy meal toy is the way to market to gamers, as that is going to be coming soon or its already out, I do not go to MC'Ds so I do not know.

I use my Wii U every day. There are a ton of games out for the system, and tons of exclusives out NOW.

Nintendo better market the heck out of MK8.
rivencleft  +   573d ago
I use my Wii U to play Wii games.. Seriously, been playing Mario Party 8 + 9 with my son, I have Wii U games like Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Bros. U/Luigi U, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze but I seem to keep going back to regular Wii games. I agree with you wholeheartedly about Nintendo not getting the word out, they seem to have been keeping quiet about everything for some reason, games releasing, etc. I've pretty much had to research Wii U games in order to figure out what is out and what is coming out. It appears that Nintendo's biggest failure with Wii U is their marketing campaign is a little lacking, if they marketed their system and games better more people would definitely buy, especially those with children, hell my son watching tv the other day (5 years old)ran up to me and said, Hey dad Yoshi has a new island, so of course I was like what the hell are you talking about kid? Come to find out he just saw a commercial for Yoshi's New Island for 3DS and now he won't shut up about it, see, THAT'S a good marketing ploy, they should do that with all of their 1st party games, sad my son had to tell me about a new game before I found out myself.

"Why Am I Still Hearing That The Wii U Needs More Games?"

Mostly because you see this argument come from one of two groups.

The conditional argument: Most people who make this claim fall in this group and to put it simply, they don't want more games per se, but more games they like. There are a lot of reasons for this argument, though it's usually used because it's easier to agree with a vague statement than a precise one.

The uninformed / bad journalism argument: One of the biggest fallacies game journalists propagate is the notion that some games are so amazing that they can single handedly get consumers to purchase a system. So instead of getting well rounded articles about whether or not Mario Kart 8 will finally push consumers to buy a Wii U, we get articles like "Can MK 8 save the Wii U" and these articles usually talk about the single game and its impact on the industry. Another problem is when people do lists and the list is just a train wreck.

A perfect example of this is IGN's top 25 Vita games ( ) from a few months back. I won't get into a long explanation of whats wrong with this list, but it doesn't instill confidence in your system when Hotline Miami and Sound Shapes are among the 10 best things your system has to offer.

So due to articles that focus on a single game and awful best of lists, it's easy to forget what the system really has to offer. Especially since many people say the Vita still needs more games...
wheresmymonkey  +   573d ago
Agreed. It's in a very simialr boat to the wiiu really. A capable sysatem with plenty of interesting games and terrible PR.
wonderfulmonkeyman  +   573d ago
I don't own or know much about the vita's lineup, and even I can see the sense in it.
It's like I've been saying for ages now; not having games you like doesn't mean a system had no good games period. It just means you're likely not giving many of them a fair chance, if one can't find a single good game on any of the systems that are out.
Blues Cowboy  +   573d ago
Because it needs more system sellers. I own a Wii U and it's lovely - from TW101 to MH3U and ZombiU, but lots of fan favourites and niche powerhouses just can't make any sort of mainstream impression. Even SM3DW was poorly timed, badly marketed, didn't have a bundle and - this is the key - had a bland conservative name that was difficult to get excited about.

Mario Kart 8 is a system seller. New Zelda will be too. The Wii U just needs a couple of games like this to tip the balance, sell more consoles and introduce people to all the awesome niche stuff on that platform that otherwise is tough to market.

Don't get me started on MiiVerse, which is amazing but almost impossible to explain!
wheresmymonkey  +   573d ago
How many system sellers does the PS4 or Xbox One currently have. I can't name one. they have good games but nothing i would refer to as a killer ap.

there's nothing wrong with the name super mario 3d world. it shows that it's linked to a very successful 3ds game and also what is recognised as one of the greatest games ever made. super mario world on the SNES.
SageShinigami  +   573d ago
The PS4 has surpassed Wii U sales in a fraction of the time--whether or not it has a killer app is irrelevant.

That's not fair, I agree. But consoles sold don't lie. Seven million in less than half a year versus 6.3 in well over a year? That's why the Wii U needs a killer app.

Actually, that's not true. They need multiple to get as many people buying their console as possible. I don't want Wii U to die next year and I just got it at the end of 2013. >_<
Blues Cowboy  +   573d ago
"there's nothing wrong with the name super mario 3d world. it shows that it's linked to a very successful 3ds game and also what is recognised as one of the greatest games ever made. super mario world on the SNES."

Hate to be pedantic, but it doesn't really do that. It shows that it's linked to the 3DS game Super Mario 3D Land - even though it isn't. More to the point, it doesn't sound cool or even remotely interesting.

"Sunshine" and "Galaxy" set you up for fun and adventure. "3D" sets you up for... 3D? Feel like we've kinda passed that being a selling point.
LordMe  +   573d ago
The issue is the future proof side of the system, losing games like Arkham Knight, Dragon Age, Destiny skipped it, Watch_Dogs is late and might not have the invasion feature to it. Dark Souls 2 skipped it, MGS and FF are as well, and more will be.

I know the debate "you don't by Nintendo for 3rd party games" and while that might be true, it does make the other systems look a tad more appealing since multiplatform games are then out of your reach.

Maybe it doesn't need more games, just less sparse release dates. Which in Sony and MS's case is covered by the 3rd party. Giving gamers stuff between 1st party games

Which is why the wii u makes for a great second console, play these third party games on the x1 or ps4 then play some amazing exclusives on the relatively low cost wii u.
Venox2008  +   573d ago
you may be right, but yes, Wii U will be great as secondary console, but it will have many indie games (sure not everyone likes them, but I do a lot).. so PC & PS4 gonna be for multiplatform fix (yea and exclusives)
mhunterjr  +   573d ago
It needs 3rd party games... If the big 3rd games aren't available, it won't succeed...
MasterCornholio  +   573d ago
Yep it has plenty of first party titles but it needs more 3rd party support despite what some delusional people say.
wonderfulmonkeyman  +   573d ago
What you're alluding to, is that it needs more third party multi plats.
What it really needs, is more third party exclusives, not more shoddy attempts to makes games built on different architecture work on the system, while the devs conveniently use install base and console sales as an excuse to omit features, not include dlc or patch support, and then delay them to round out the list of things they've done to screw up their own games' chances of ever selling beyond a million on the console.

In short, the system doesn't need badly-done ports of games like The Witcher 3.
It needs more well-built exclusives like Bayonetta 2.
Are_The_MaDNess  +   573d ago
well 3d party games isnt the reason many of us buy Nintendo Hardware. we want the Nintendo games, since they know the quality and what we want.
mhunterjr  +   573d ago
Unfortunately the 'many of us' who buy Nintendo hardware soley for Nintendo games isn't a very large number of people... That's why the console isn't selling. They need to appeal to more than just the hardcore Nintendo fan if they want to sell more consoles.

TheEnigma313  +   573d ago
It's not that Nintendo doesn't have games, I think people want a few more mature ones. I would love to see another Eternal Darkness or Mad World.
LAWSON72  +   573d ago
I want a Wii U especially with the new MK8 bundle but I also want a new car so hopefully by around mid June I can get one. I think has plenty of games and I look forward to getting one
MilkMan  +   573d ago
I love Nintendo and I have a shit-ton of their games, but the games need to come more consistently. Third party support is no-existent except for Ubisoft and past releases don't count towards the longevity and success of the console.
Those games had one shot and one sot only to make waves for the console if they didn't do it then, they wont do it now.
You cant have gaps of 3 to 4 months of nothing to play. No new IP's and so forth.
Nintendo completely and totally depend on the goodwill of their fans how long can you keep going to the well?
How long can you push Mario Kart and Smash Brothers for a last minute ditch effort to keep us not selling our systems?

Nintendo should be more transparent, they should have said not only where we not prepared by making games in HD, but our next batch of games wont be ready until 2015. The same argument goes for Sony and MS.

However Sony is getting lots of goodwill and press, they keep a steady stream of games coming not so much on the PS4 but on their older "mature" system. PS3 keeps them afloat. Nintendo has none of this.

Even 3DS hurts.
What a grand day, when Nintendo announces, BRAND NEW IP's, new Zelda, New Metroid, heavy, healthy third party support, and steady stream of indie games.
They may want to venture into health, and as a company that has dabbled in this arena I can see that, they've probably collected more data on this than any of the other rivals.
Good thinking..

They need, to excite not only the fans, but the potentials customers on the fence. You don't need guns, but apply some of that Nintendo magic in new IP's in genres they have not tackled. Open world games, sand box...Imagine an Uncharted type game Nintendo style, Hitman, Western and Eastern rpgs.

Nintendo has done none of this.

Yes they had Deus Ex, but it went from exclusive to multiplatform.

They should buy Platinum Games, why? Cause they make the kind of high octane, high gloss, balsy action games that Nintendo doesn't.

Natural fit.

In my mind, Nintendo is slowly and surely working their way into a corner and I fear they wont be able to get out.
Why have to be on the defensive when you can be innovators and take a leadership role. Not THINK you are in a leadership role.

If it wasn't because in my home I was a Nintendo fan, my children wouldn't even know Mario. Most homes are brought up strictly Xbox and or PS4.
Blues Cowboy  +   573d ago
I genuinely wonder if, one day, more kids will know what a Creeper is than who Mario is.
Blaydyn  +   573d ago
New Zelda? New Mario? All they have to do is re-release a re-release of a re-release in HD and they'll sell a couple million extra units.
Thomaticus  +   573d ago
The wii u doesn't have the right games. It still uses the wiimotes to use is main controllers. I'd like to have an fzero game. I like the Zelda hd game, but the right game would have been a new Zelda. People mat like the system, that's fine. Don't exPect the masses to like it. The question is what would it take to get those who don't have a wii u to purchase one.
dodgemoose  +   573d ago
It's lacking in third party support, plain and simple. Not exactly surprising either. Even the Wii, with its huge sales figures, had a really low attachment rate. Third party games simply didn't sell very well.

Because it does! After Mario cart, you have to wait 6 months for Brawl.
Jag-T1000  +   573d ago
Correction, Smash Bros, why did I call it Brawl? I don't know.
JuleyJules  +   573d ago
It's not that the Wii U doesn't ALREADY have enough games as you listed it's that the gaps between games are ridiculous - SM3DW in December, DKC:TF in February and then MK8 at the end of May!! How does Nintendo expect to sell consoles? Moving Mario Kart 8 up a few weeks in May would even kickstart a big change though I doubt that would happen. They need to have more games coming out like MK8, SSB4, Zelda etc that are going to move units. Then and only then will 3rd party see that people want games on Wii U and that the fan base is there to buy games. Bottom line is it matters more whats coming not whats already here. Fans want to see release dates for games like Bayonetta 2, Yoshi, X, Hyrule Warriors, SSB4 (other than winter) etc instead of being left hanging. Fans want to hear about games like a new Metroid, Star Fox, Mario Galaxy 3 etc or something completing new from Miyamoto and maybe an NFC game to compete with Skylanders and Disney Infinity with all Nintendo IPs and characters. Then units will be sold and games will come down the line.

I will get Wii U when it gets the games I want. What kind of games do I want?

1. It's on PS4
2. It's not on Wii U, cause I hate that console
3. Free console comes with the game
4. Gives me 500 hours of playtime, and is greatest game of all time

When Nintendo makes games like this for Wii U then I will buy a Wii U. I mean, they'd be stupid not to do this, unless they want to go out of business.
voodoochild346  +   573d ago
Sounds like you never were going to give the system a chance regardless. Good thing your biased opinion means nothing.
coltlokk  +   572d ago
you're pretty narrow-minded.
pcz  +   573d ago
No system selling games
its not that the wiiu has no games, its just doesnt have any games worth buying the console for.

mario 3d world is good, but would you really spend £200 to play it. no. same with pikmin and all the other games listed.

X is the only game in the pipeline worthy of the consoles £250 asking price
voodoochild346  +   573d ago
Some people might say that x is not their type of game so it wouldn't make them buy a wii u. It would be their opinion just like everything in your comment is opinion not fact. If x comes out but isn't marketed how well do you expect it to sell? Nintendo has a marketing and media image problem.

If nintendo actually marketed their system from the get go they wouldn't have a third party problem apart from EA. If the gaming media wasn't spending all its time blasting nintendo 24/7 for hits Nintendo wouldn't have an image problem. And if they had third party support and no image problem the wii u would have sold twice as much by now.
Errefus  +   573d ago
Because most of the Third Party support is half bakes ports and not marketing at all, sure we have kart and smash coming but is that it for nintendo? Smash is going to be their Fall/Winter title so we wont get more first party titles this year? and with the lack of support of third party i think we need more games. I know there are Indie games in the Eshop but i would like to see New Ips from third party on wii u or exclusives... even multiplats but seems like it aint happening.
Geobros  +   573d ago

I'd say the Wii U needs a wider variety of games. I visit N4G nearly every day and I see very little that appeals to me. There's your usual Mario-this and other family-centric games, which is fine, but there's no Batman, no Uncharted, no inFamous, nothing that makes me say "Wow, I wish I had a Wii U."
Ck1x  +   573d ago
I think with the WiiU it comes down to if Nintendo is putting out the right games for the system. MK8 will certainly be one of the first games done right on the WiiU, but some of the other titles probably should have been something else. SM3DW is an excellent game, but how hyped would people have been for a new chapter in SM64 or Galaxy. DKCTF is a great game but a successor to DK64 would have been more welcomed, or if Retro had just put out an amazing Metroid game 1st or a new IP even! The WiiU just needs the right games to elevate it's identity. When you say WiiU, a person should easily be able to rattle off a few games even if they've barely played the system. That's when you know it's getting the right games for the system...
DivineAssault  +   572d ago
It does need more games!!! 1st party are doing their thing & its got Bayo 2 incoming but thats it! Most AAA devs are skipping right over it
