Has Halo had its day?

The franchise has undoubtedly had it’s ups and downs from the lows of Halo Wars to the heights of Halo 4, but what does the future hold for the series? Thirteen years later and Xploregaming wonders if Halo needs to change to survive, or if nostalgia and Master Chief are enough to carry it on to the new generation of consoles. We take a look at the series has performed and ask the question: is the series on the verge of stagnation or is the Xbox One reason enough to hope?

I have to laugh when I see the word "only" beside games sales of 6 and 9 million. Other franchises last gen were lucky to hit 6m, never mind 9m, Halo did this on a ruler basis, and Halo 3's almost 12m is almost unheard of.

Halo 3, those were the days!

I'm sorry it's just unwarranted for Gears and Halo. The games won't be as critical success in respect to Gears 1 and Halo 1/2.

Halo NEEDS Better Multiplayer Maps, that are fun to play on, designed well, and pleasing to look at.

These ugly, Generic, amateurish maps are lame and not creative whatsoever.

Most of us could design better maps.

Halo isn't done, but the maps need some improving.

From what Xbox keeps saying they don't plan to release Halo 5 until next year sometime. I think it would be a horrible time to be putting out Halo against its original maker anyway. They will probably put out the Halo 2 remaster this year. To be honest I personally think it would be wise of MS to release Halo 2 remaster as a free game for Gold. This would not only rejuvenate the the spirit that once was Halo but it would also be in the hands of every subscriber. People who might not have live would sign up just to get it. Then when things cooled down for gaming after the holidays. They drop the hammer of Halo 5 at the start of the new year. Will this happen? Probably not but they should if they want to push consoles and the next game in the series. It would also be a way to make up for the lack of games free for gold by giving the remaster away for free.

Giving as a games for gold would be pretty cool

I like that idea

No other FPS on a console has even been remotely close to the quality and sheer fun Halo delivers.

SpiralTear1568d ago

Out of all of the FPS games I've played on consoles, Halo is still one I frequently replay. Even if Halo may have been more popular years ago than it is now, I hardly believe that "its day" is over.

I'd like the franchise to continue. It's just a damn good series.

AceBlazer131568d ago

I've played better on console. But Halo CE Lan parties at school especially were awesome, nothing beats that.Halo is definitely one of the best FPS games I played, nailing story and gameplay.

Halo 3 last gen were most fun and competitive days for me, unfortunately it was all downhill from there.

I think this article has got a really weird out look.

First of all, Halo ODST and Halo Wars were well received, once you consider what they were. A console RTS selling 2.million is unheard of. And the expansion that was ODST topped the lifetime sales that most full games can only dream of.

There isn't a single halo game that you can put the word 'only' before the unit sales.

Then you ask if Halo's waning popularity is because it changes to little. Actually the majority of the complaints have been about how much the franchise has been straying from the original formula. (Loadouts, xp progression, weapon drops, etc)

I think the original halo trilogy were some of my most played and most loved games. But after that the games have lost their magic for me at least. I've played halo 4 and halo reach but they never could bring me in like the first three and I really think the overall halo community just kinda fell apart.

tdogchristy901568d ago

This is my sentiment. I've been on a halo kick lately, not playing it but thinking about my memories and watching redvsblue. I grew up in high school and college playing the original trilogy from bungie. Ever since then it just hasn't been the same with the load outs and such. When bungie left I left. Left it to a new generation of gamers. But yes I agree with you, the torch was passed and it kind of makes me sad but I love my memories of the bungie days

FriedGoat1568d ago

A lot of people say this, but I still think reach had a great single player. Of course it was a bit different, but it was great finding out about the other spartans.

Halo 4 on the other hand just didn't live up to the previous titles for me. I actually enjoyed the MP of 4 more than reach though.

but Halo 3 is the mutts nuts.
