We already know that considering Activision has a timed-exclusive DLC deal with Microsoft.

We didn't know that a couple weeks ago

@ porkchop

Oh...I didn't know that....what does the lead platform have to do with

@ porkchop (edit)

Well I stand corrected

porkChop1269d ago (Edited 1269d ago )

Lead platform has literally nothing to do with which platform gets DLC first. Lead platform is based on which system is the most powerful and easiest to work with. Timed-exclusive DLC is based on marketing deals.

nicksetzer11269d ago (Edited 1269d ago )

Not surprised, but considering all the "insider info" that gets taken as fact, the clarification is nice.

@porkchop the lead platform would be the one that is getting DLC first, has it's logo at the end of the trailers and whos console is used for MLG tournaments. (Hint: all xbox) .... really I'm not even sure what you think a lead platform is. If as it sounds, you are saying it is the platform that the games dev focus is on, which (as with most games) would be PC, then ported to PS4 and XB1...

@lawboy took the words out of my mouth.

Kayant1269d ago

@nicksetzer1

" the lead platform would be the one that is getting DLC first, has it's logo at the end of the trailers and whos console is used for MLG tournaments. (Hint: all xbox)" - You're not making any sense he even said himself that MS's deal is probably a multi year deal. Like porkChop said lead platform is to do with development not how a game is marketed.

nicksetzer11269d ago (Edited 1269d ago )

@kayant So, developement wise it would be PC, so what is the next excuse? But sure, I am the one "not making sense." Everyone thinks the "lead platform" is the one that is PC ported (both XB1 and PS4 will be) has secondary marketing position, delayed dlc and not used for MLG.

Not to mention you missed a major part of Dodd's incorrect statement you still seem to support:
"I heard that activision is going to make a **public announcement** about COD changing to the PS4 as lead platform."

That is what we here in the real world, call marketing.

But, let's put all that aside, what do you think "lead console" means. Give me a definition and some encompassing results of those ideas that show PS4 to be the "lead console."

I am simply basing the definition for lead console (as one doesn't exist, hence you guys constantly twisting it's meaning to fit your purpose) off of the context of what Dodd said, and seeing as he said it would be a public announcement and would possibly (but probably not due to contract) have early DLC, that means he was talking marketing.

Kayant1269d ago (Edited 1269d ago )

@nicksetzer1

You can spin it your way I can spin it mine. The rest of the quote shows he was talking about development - "I have no idea if this means DLC (I assume MS locked that down for multiple years) but COD was a XBOX 360 game that happened to be on the ps3 last gen"

Now let's look and the quote from MS "and again brings all add-on content first to Xbox" and then let's look at how it started --> http://www.destructoid.com/...

So what do you call activision always showing a a trailer or game play demo at MS events/E3 or MS sponsoring cod events or Sony with Destiny, AC, etc. All of them are strategic marketing deals and nothing more.

"Microsoft will sponsor the event. This will be the first official “Call of Duty” competition that will be played on the next-gen Xbox One"

http://www.ibtimes.com/call...

"Everyone thinks the "lead platform" is the one that is PC ported (both XB1 and PS4 will be) has secondary marketing position, delayed dlc and not used for MLG." - Well you just broke your argument because according to you PC is the lead platform yet it's not getting any of those benefits.

Am not saying he is right but the lead platform has nothing to do with getting DLC first or being used at events like MLG.

That's what lead platform means -

This COD doesn't have Zombies. Maybe Black Ops 3 is when things will start getting interesting?

Giul_Xainx1268d ago (Edited 1268d ago )

Yay. Dlc for a game on both platforms that comes out on the xbox first. Yay... a game I don't care for since cod4mw. Yay. Playstation wins again yay.

OrangePowerz1268d ago (Edited 1268d ago )

@Nick

Wrong, lead platform has nothing to do with what version is promoted most and what gets DLC first. Marketing and DLC is just for whatever agreement a company has with another. Watch Dogs is mainly promoted on the PS4 and that is for sure not the lead platform as it will be the PC.

Given that the new CoD is supposed to have a 3 year development cycle the lead platform will be PC for that one as well.

Its funny how instead of paying for something that incentivises ppl to buy it, it has become expected on xbox. Though didnt the last couple CoDs sell better on Sony consoles regardless.

Also, didnt recent dlc come out much closer together than usual?

TheGreatGamer1269d ago

I'd rather have destiny dlc anyway

Webbyy1269d ago

Lol, true but I must say you sound like a kid that tried to get a girl but she rejected you..
" she was ugly anyway" :-p

AngelicIceDiamond1269d ago

So its war over who gets exclusive content now? I thought we weren't doing this, this gen I thought it was bad practice.

I stand by my word exclusive content needs to go.

NewMonday1269d ago

I don't see them impacting game sales, BF4 had exclusive content on 360/X1 but ended up selling more on both PS3/PS4.

what they do is keep the actual console in the spotlight.

pwnsause_returns1269d ago (Edited 1269d ago )

it was also lead on PS4. although we shouldnt be talking about BF after the s***tshow that EA and DICE has left us with the rubberbanding and lag...

Hellsvacancy1268d ago

I "was" excited to play Destiny, but the more I see of it the less I want to pay it

And then Project Beast came along, i'd rather that game any day

JoeyDirt1269d ago

This has to be one my biggest annoyances with COD series. I play many games and COD is one the main games I do play online with friends. By the time the DLC is released on Xbox the game starts to feel stale on Playstation which is obviously why this series and most release DLC, to keep interest in the game.
This is either failure or refusal on Sony's part for not being able to secure the DLC at the same time or Microsoft just beating them to the punch.
I thought with the increased popularity of PS4 this might change and also having to pay now for online with PS4 which I have no issue with for all the content we're given with Plus but I also felt like this put us in some premium category if you will. Yet it's the same old.
Now that being said, it could simply be this deal was secured prior to PS4's early success over Xbox, but the "next time maybe" has been said every year.
I'll still get the game, it looks great and most COD players will get it regardless and I'm sure Activision knows this.
On the bright side at least it's not Ghosts 2

Lawboy21269d ago

U understand why it's important then....I've always played every COD game on playstation consoles because of the free online even though I had both systems....I would just pay for live when halo and gears came out saved me a ton of money because I play every COD game but now since there is the subscription fee for ps+ And xbox live might as well play all MP games on the xbox one

Clown_Syndr0me1268d ago

As much as I like my PS4, online games will still be on X1 for me as XBL has always been more stable for me.
In the early days of PS3 I didn't even own a 360 but I bought one on a whim and never looked back, I found the upgrade in online quality outstanding.

Madderz1268d ago

@Clown syndrome

"I found the upgrade in online quality outstanding."

Can you just clarify for me what is "better" or as you say an "upgrade in online quality..."?

I hear this argument a lot that XBL is superior to PSN, but i have to say I've used both and they both seem exactly the same?

Both connect to a game at the same speed, both have the same amount of lag/no lag and neither has had me booted from a game more than the other?

I just don't get the argument?

I used to understand slightly with regards to ease of social use due to party chat, but now PS has that too? That was the only thing I ever thought was "superior" to PSN.

This isn't a dig or anything just wondered why you felt that way?

oODEADPOOLOo1269d ago

I say let MS overpay to have the DLC to old franchises like COD and battlefield, while Sony strikes deals with new IP's like Destiny and Watchdogs and whatever else comes out later.

ITZz-FAN_BOY1269d ago

if that up to me i will make the DLC comes in the same day for all

TheSaint1269d ago

Just limited time exclusive DLC isn't enough to sell more X1's, if they had the game exclusive then maybe.
