Ubisoft now "fully focused" on Watch Dogs for Wii U

With the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC versions of Watch Dogs closing in on their May 27 release date, Ubisoft is shifting its focus to the Wii U version, creative director Jonathan Morin said in a new interview. Not that Ubisoft's wasn't giving the Wii U version attention before, but now that the other versions are nearly here, Ubisoft is able to "fully" focus on making the Wii U version the best it can possibly be, Morin said.

Lies, they're focused on the DLC 'cause that's where the money is

-Foxtrot1206d ago

True, they'd probably earn more money off PS3/Xbox 360/PS4/Xbox One/PC DLC packs then just a Wii U version of Watch Dogs

Neonridr1206d ago

sad but true..

had the Wii U version released side by side with the others I would say no. But now that everyone will just end up getting it for another console, the sales numbers for the Wii U version will be the nail in the coffin for Ubisoft looking for an excuse to drop the Wii U support.

I hope that is not the case though.

"numbers for the Wii U version will be the nail in the coffin for Ubisoft looking for an excuse to drop the Wii U support"

That's basically what they are doing in my opinion. They've supported it longer then other developers/publishers you have to give them that but I think the reason they did because they were hoping sales would pick up over time, since thats not happening they've trapped themselves into corner.

They could come out and just say "RIGHT...We're done" but with something like this it would at least shelter them a little bit from the fallout.

Look at Rayman Legends though if they were so devoted to the Wii U then they would of released that first since it was completed, not wait until they've finished the PS3/Xbox 360 versions.

Rayman sold more on the Wii U, what the hell are you on about?

I'm not saying WD will sell more on wii U, i'm simply stating there Ubi knows there is an audience they could gear to.

@ChickeyCantor

I wasn't talking about sales of the game if you read my comment properly then you'll know that I was talking about the fact Ubisoft were hoping sales of the Wii U would pick up.

Never said anything about the game sales.

ChickeyCantor1206d ago

"I wasn't talking about sales"

How dense are you? You completely missed the point.

Just like how Wii U version wasn't cancelled was lies too? Yeahhhhh. Everyone knows most DLC is finished by the time a game launches these days, and released soon after.

Ubi are probably very encouraged by the MK8 bombs recently too.

Wii U version FTW!

eaise1206d ago

I will be getting this for the Wii U. Maybe not day 1 like I originally planned but will for sure be getting it this year. Hopefully they do some awesome things with the gamepad. Don't let me down Ubi!

Neonridr1206d ago

I thought they said that another studio (Budapest or something) was handling the Wii U version. I'm confused as to why they are saying that they are committed to the Wii U version. Wasn't that studio always committed to the Wii U version since that was the game they were developing?

I just hope that the head office people ensure that this game meets the quality of the other platforms. No excuse as to why this game isn't better than the 360/PS3 versions at least.

BlackWolf1206d ago (Edited 1206d ago )

I assume it's just PR, so the Wii U owners that still intend to buy the game don't feel abandoned by Ubisoft. Then again, I still expect this game to rock on Wii U. The idea of hacking fits so well with Gamepad, even with the delay (assuming it won't hurt sales, hopefully).

Edit: to your comment below... I didn't see it that way... Maybe it's for the better. Let's hope it sells well anyways.

Metallox1206d ago

Morin said in an interview that many programmers went to Montreal so they could help in the development of the other versions. Due to this the Wii U version was delayed, supposedly.

Neonridr1206d ago (Edited 1206d ago )

I've always wondered if Ubisoft is just pulling another fast one. They delayed Watch Dogs from their original release date and many speculated that it was because of the launch library of titles that may have cannibalized some of Watch Dogs sales (BF4, CoD: Ghosts, AC4). Now we have Mario Kart 8 launching on May 30th which clearly will get all the attention for Wii U fans. I wonder if they are delaying it again for exactly the same reasons as before. They are worried that if people only have one game to choose from they are going to go with MK8. Then a few months down the road when everything has cooled, Here comes Watch Dogs during a dry month for the Wii U to show up as the saviour in which people will flock to the game like a moth to the flame.

Worth a second thought I guess..

I hope when the wii u version come out it will have dlc content that will definitely be released before the wii u version is complete and give nintendo owners an even better reason to purchase this game.... like deus ex directors cut which had all the dlc content and fixed boss fights was included when the game was released ...

deafdani1206d ago

Watch them release Watch Dogs at the same time as Smash. Lol.

weekev151206d ago

I think you are spot on but I also think they have 2 reasons. They are hoping MK8 plus the Zelda reveal will move a considerable volume of WiiUs thus increasing potential sales.

The question is, can they make the WiiU version interesting enough to convince people to double dip?

Ubisoft now "fully focused" on Watch Dogs for Wii U

BAD MOVE!

Ubisoft should just focus on some quality DLC for the big platforms.

Metallox1206d ago

DLC will be made by Ubisoft Montreal (assuming they haven't do it yet, but I doubt it). Ubisoft Bucharest can handle the Wii U version, easily.

ATi_Elite1205d ago

LMFAO Ubisoft Bucharest!!!!
