Naughty Dog using 'The Last of Us' on PS4 as a learning opportunity

It was only a matter of weeks ago that Sony announced The Last of Us: Remastered would be hitting the PS4 later this summer. It was the Game of the Year for countless outlets, including, and provided an experience consumers have been yearning for, for years. Naughty Dog believes The Last of Us: Remastered will serve as a means to learn about the PS4.

And there is no better game to bring on PS4 :)
Even many people who played it already on PS3 are excited about it. Also, I think this will raise the chances for another TLOU in the future.

showtimefolks1543d ago

will pick it up day one will happily pay $60 again to ND/sony. I hope people who missed this game because o not having a ps3 can play/enjoy it as much as some of us who played it for the first time

and now with all the dlc

I'm not sure a port is the best way to get acquainted with the tech. Surely Uncharted 4 being built from the ground up is a better way to get your head round the PS4?

I thought I read that ND already had their engine (the same engine that the UC games and TLOU used) running on PS4 hardware "for some time".

And that they had no need to develop a new engine from the ground up specifically for the PS4 as their existing engine was so powerful and flexible it could be customised to make use of the PS4 new technology.

I'd expect both TLOU and the next uncharted game to run off an evolution of the existing engine.

@ Septic

I agree that porting/remastering a game for the new console isn't the best way to learn the hardware. But summertime is usually a drought gaming wise anyways, and we get a killer game to kill some time before the next big wave of games comes in.

And I will admit that I will be one of those people that ends up buying TLOU twice... Naughty Dog is awesome enough to justify it in my books!

Dannyh1543d ago

Last of us was my favorite game last generation I will happily buy it again, I hope Sony gets the crash bandicoot license back and naughty dog makes it again

George Sears1543d ago

Always said I would get it if it ever shows up on PS4.

Meltic1543d ago

i cant understand how it can be better. Its already looks next gen on the ps3.

colonel1791543d ago

When we get to see the games are coming for PS4 on E3 we will never look at The Last of Us the same way.

And when we get to see the game that release in 5 years, we will never see the games announced at this E3 the same way.

Remember Resistance, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted when they were announced? And look at them now.

mkis0071543d ago (Edited 1543d ago )

Man that Heavenly sword framerate!!! 20 fps all the time! I loved it...but wow can't even play it anymore...and not because of that fricken impossible last fight.

iistuii1543d ago

Look at a game like SS & then play TLOU after & you'll notice plenty of things that aren't next gen. Aliasing & textures are the main things. It looked great for last gen mind.

mkis0071543d ago

1080p Resolution, stable framerates, and Anti-aliasing are what I want out of the remasters. (kind of hand in hand but IDC)

GTA5 needs it so bad! I can feel the's tearing me apart.

purp13m0nk3y1543d ago

Agreed. GTA5 is an impressive technical feat, but it also clearly shows the limitations of last gen hardware.

The Next Gen versions are going to be very impressive visually.

Jdoki1543d ago

You make an interesting point. I recall when I first saw Uncharted, it looked phenomenal. Same for U2, U3 and TLoU... But it's amazing how quick things progress.

Looking back at U1 vs TLoU and the jump is pretty massive. I expect the same sort of jump from PS3 TLoU to PS4 TLoU.

mkis0071543d ago (Edited 1543d ago )

Uncharted 1 to 2 was ridiculous on it's own...factoring in TLoU... just wow. I remember the texture loading on UC1...So much progress!

M83_1543d ago

Yet I still love U1 regardless. It still looks great to me :D

hfaze1543d ago

While it did look good on the PS3, you could see where they had to make sacrifices texture wise, lighting wise, etc to make it run well on the PS3. The remastered version will not have to make those sacrifices. Draw distances will be further, they will be able to use higher resolution texture maps, more complex wireframe meshes for the characters/environment, etc.

I was skeptical about the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition at first until I fired up the PS3 version and played a bit. Definite improvement.

da1writer1543d ago

While the game did look Great, there were some cutbacks not mentioned by anyone except Digital Foundry who noticed A LOT.

Naughty Dog using The Last of Us on PS4 as a learning opportunity,

One related news:

Sony is using The Last of Us on PS4 as a money opportunity.

younglj011543d ago

more money = more games from Sony?

GarrusVakarian1543d ago (Edited 1543d ago )

Wait....a business is trying to make money? HOW PREPOSTEROUS!

Inception1543d ago

"Sony is using The Last of Us on PS4 as a money opportunity"

No shit sherlock. Obviously they're doing it for charity /S

Drekken1543d ago

Sony using The Last of Us to make the Xbox look like it has even less games than the PS4.

I fixed that for you.

Uncharted 4 has been in development for 3years.

I hope they've learnt something by now:)

Great game regardless.
