The Beyond crew weighs in on the enduring popularity of console systems.
I think we have to surprisingly thank mobile gaming for this huge growth in Video games in general..Most casual gamers probably started with mobile gaming, then got really into it and decided to proceed to the next level via consoles, which is obviously a great thing for us hardcore gamers. More support, more games. and I see mobile gaming as an excellent stepping stone cause my dad is a great example, ever since he got an ipad he has become a hardcore casual gamer LOL! plays that shit hours on end! it's ridiculous!
Yeah cuz thanks to the iPhone the ps1 and ps2 sold over 100 million , good guy apple
Sooo... you're saying the 90's didn't happen, because as we all know, the PS1 had absolutely no impact on game consoles. Those shiny black discs... feh! I'd rather be playing games on windows 98. /s Gateway MT6706 2008
Hmmm.. Maybe I should have used COD. lol!
Its because PS4 is priced right and gamers are now informed.
its actually becuz consoles do more than just play games.
Hype[as a result of good advertisement] will make a console sell regardless of its games, at least for a little while. Last year's E3 has pretty much proven that.
I'm not clicking the link but I have 2 theories, 1. People bought into the hype 2. The PS3/360 era was considered too long of a cycle as people were wanting something fresh.
Solid thoughts. Agree on both
I agree with all points. I would add one more. 3. Console gaming is not going the way of the dodo bird . Analyst are just bunch of arses who don't know what they are talking about, that's why they are called "ANAL-yst".
idk maybe people want these consoles?
Console gets replace one every 5-8 years so if people are still buying new Ipad and smartphones every year at premium price, then I don't see why people can't spend the money on something they are interested in they know will be around for many years after purchase.
"Why are consoles selling so well" Oh hey nintendo... Microsoft... Ouya.... Well, at least sony is doing above average. Someones gotta do it.
Just like the iPhone people want quick and easy use and cheap. As a huge PC gamer, I do have to say consoles have their benefit. You can sit on a couch and play your games instead of being at a desk on a chair. Some PC people may argue this fact that you can easily get a mouse and keyboard on your lap or get a controller for your games but it isn't that simple. With Steam's Big Picture Mode its still a bit difficult. Not all games have full controller support and quite frankly it sucks and is very buggy still. I'd like to see the SteamOS in its full actually working release and not a beta mode. With that being said I believe that is the major thing consoles are very easy to handle and afford.
Big picture is garbage and I skip it all together... The only issue I have with PC gaming is the massive tower I have and how it's not really suitable for the living room.
Becuz we like DA gaminz
Why is there a picture of the Wiiu...?
because they want Wii U picture
They are not selling well.
The best games (a.k.a. GOTYS) are on consoles, if you want to play the best games, you need to buy consoles.
what are these people smoking, the ps4 is selling well, the other 2 consoles are not. the x1 isnt even keeping up with the 360s past sales.
Not a fanboy, I own both companies last gen and current gen systems. And I actually use my PS4. But if you go and look at the numbers the X1 is doing very well. It's actually doing better then the 360 was at this time. It just looks bad by comparison with the PS4. Just saying.
I think it comes down to 2 reasons. First and foremost is people were desperately craving a new generation. Last generation went on for way too long. I'm sure Sony would have wanted to start earlier, but they needed to recoup as much of their investment as they could. MS would have been perfectly fine to make gamers wait as long as they dam well wanted and keep milking the 360 for all it's worth, but were forced by Sony to release last year to stay competitive. Of course we'll never know for sure, but there was a lot of very compelling evidence to indicate the xbone was rushed. Second is the much better launch lineup from previous generations. Never before have we bought consoles on release day with such quality and diversity. I'd also argue that the market has not only grown, but 'geek and gaming culture' is a lot more accepted than it's ever been.
I was going to post about the last console gen lingering too long but then I saw your post & all your points are spot on. Excellent job. Excellent!
Because people want them. I can has money now?
Easy, because gaming has lost a lot of its negative stigma over the years. Gaming has become one of the largest entertainment industries in the world. But the number one reason: ITS FUN AND ENTERTAINING!!
Because consoles are dying!!!!!!!!!! and mobile gaming with crappy controls and graphix is taking its place!!!!!! consoles are here to stay forever hopefully
because this gen is wayyyy overdue
This is probably the best reason, last gen felt a little too long and technology has moved on quite a bit.
The only console that seems to be selling well is the PS4. I go to the store and the xbox one and wiiu shelves are usually completely full and never does it seem low. The ps4 shelves are either empty or has a few ps4 units left.
Because people like to spend less money to buy new things and to have years of easy fun, and to save on gas money ;).
