Don't lie—You'd buy Mass Effect again on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in a heartbeat

Save/Continue writes: There’s been a lot of buzz around the internet about a possible (probable) re-release of the Mass Effect trilogy for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. And no matter how you feel about the ending of the epic trilogy from BioWare, no matter the degree of your disappointment, you’re going to shell out money for the facelift if it happens to be true.

I'm not really a fan of remakes, but they would need to just shut up and take my money on this one.

georgeenoob1208d ago

No reason to lie. Out of the 140 games I played on 360, Mass Effect 2 is the best one without a doubt.

DARK WITNESS1208d ago

lost interest in the series after playing the second one.

I would not touch a remake.

alexkoepp1208d ago

I loved the games, but I sure as hell am not buying them again.

there isn't even any evidence of the games being anything other than a direct port at this point.

u got owned1208d ago

@alexkoepp

I feel the same. One of my favorite trilogy, but i dont think I'll re-buy it

mikeslemonade1208d ago (Edited 1208d ago )

I would not play them again. And Mass Effect 1 is a top 10 game last generation. Stop saying 2 is the best. You don't know what you are talking about. 2 was only good because of 1. 1 was the standard setter.

Gears 1, Bioshock 1, and Mass Effect 1 all in top 10 of last gen and better than their sequals life-to-date.

DarthZoolu1208d ago

Only if its Mass Effect 1. It was by far the best Space Odyssey. Mass Effect 2 was nurfed a bit and too casual.

Naga1208d ago (Edited 1208d ago )

@ DarthZoolu

I think the storyline and the RPG elements were much better in ME1, but the combat and character dynamics were substantially better in ME2.

I look back on those two games and will readily agree that ME1 was a better space odyssey... but I only played through it once. I played through ME2 three times because it was a better game.

AznGaara1208d ago

Same! It's probably the only reasonable way for saves to carry over to ME4, if they do carry over that is.

Ripsta7th1208d ago

Trilogy is over I beleive

TheTowelBoy1208d ago

It would be extraordinarily hard for them to form a story 1-3's decisions/events(a new story, which ME4 is confirmed to be, we don't even know if the part of the universe they'll use even knows of Shepard's existence). Anyway I'd love for them to be able to use our decisions from last gen but that story ended, for bad or good(given your experience), it did end. I can't wait to get back into that universe and start a whole new story. I just pray it's as freaking epic as Shepard's was. :) I've played it so many times through.

zsquaresoff1208d ago

The only thing that would stop me from buying the ME trilogy is the rubbish ending.

But I would buy it because I didn't play 1 and absolutely loved ME2. One of the best games of last gen.

JsonHenry1208d ago

No, I own them on PC. And I've had the trilogy/higher rez/HD versions since they launched. As well as any mods along the way. :)

Dannyh1208d ago

So would I, never got to play any of them.also looking forward to metro

GameSpawn1208d ago

I've held out on this game because I was very middle of the road with desire for it. I played a demo of Mass Effect 2 and enjoyed the gameplay but not enough to make it a must have.

If this re-release is sold for a decent price I would probably pick it up. The gameplay and pacing reminds me a little of KOTOR 1 & 2 from the action RPG elements to the way the story is driven through a massive "decision" tree.

showtimefolks1208d ago

yes but if i have to buy all the DLC again than i am not even touching it. EA has charged us enough times for DLC to where they now should put all the DLC on the damn disks

make a complete collection for $60 and i will buy it. But if they expect us to shell out $60 for Vanilla version than no thank you

JasonKCK1208d ago

Nope! That's like asking if I would buy my car again.

3-4-51208d ago (Edited 1208d ago )

Not the Trilogy.

ME 1 = Awesome
ME 2 = Overrated but still really good, if slightly boring.
ME 3 = Not so hot

I'm DONE with that trilogy even though I only played 8 hours of ME3 and returned it.

I can't wait for the New Mass Effect game, but I'm done with the past stuff. It was a cool journey though.

Eddie201011208d ago

Not really, I played all three on My PC at max settings.

medman1208d ago (Edited 1208d ago )

Mass Effect is my favorite trilogy of all time, but I would not buy the
remasters for my ps4. I played the heck out of all three on my 360, notmy ps3 (the first ME was one of the reasons I bought my 360 before my ps3 last gen, along with the first gears of war), and having played through each of the games multiple times already, there is no reason for me to return to the ME galaxy, no matter how pretty it will be on the new gen consoles. I look forward to playing ME4 though.

Next Gen - where HD remakes happen :P

DragonKnight1208d ago

This.

And no word of a lie, I wouldn't buy ME Trilogy on PS4 ever. My PS4 isn't for remakes of games that are only a console generation old.

OldDude1208d ago

I agree, this is crap. Now we have Last of Us, Walking Dead, Wind Waker, Mass Effect and I am sure I am missing a couple. Way to take risks and use your money and development teams on something new and exciting. Stupid indie games that have been on PC for over a year. So far, this generation sucks and that's for both my PS4 and my X1, and also my WiiU for that matter. Something new would be nice.

they are not forcing you to buy it are they?

Its not like the main ME team is gonna do this remake? its most likely an small external studio who are just getting their feet into gaming business

what about those who never played these before?

don't be short sighted, so what if we are getting better versions of some huge AAA games from last generation. No one is forcing anyone to rebuy these

but its a gaming website so people still complain about everything just to stand out

In this case of the last of us many gamers didn't get a ps3 or sold their's because they were gonna buy a ps4/xbox one. It provides an opportunity to play something they might have missed

Neonridr1208d ago

So they missed the game when it was stand alone titles? Then they missed the game again when it was repackaged into a trilogy? So let's triple dip with a coat of HD polish on top?

I guess we should all expect Tomb Raider the Super Ultra Spelunking Edition on the PS5 right?

I am not saying that all HD remakes are bad. Wind Waker on the Wii U was a fantastic upgrade, however that game was fairly old, so a remake seems fresh. I am excited for TLOU becuase it was a Sony exclusive and I didn't own a PS3.

I am just noticing a trend that Sony and MS seem to want to just offer us glazed over remakes of existing games (in some cases, for games that released last year) to try to make a few more bucks and perhaps plug the gaps in their obviously lacking library of software.

DragonKnight1208d ago

"they are not forcing you to buy it are they?"

This attitude makes me laugh. It's always the go to response for people accepting laziness.

No, they aren't putting a gun to my head and forcing me to buy remasters, but they also are wasting time and resources. Unwilling to admit they weren't prepared for the next gen, this is a way to make a quick buck off of suckers.

The games in question are available right now, for consoles that are cheaper than current gen consoles. If people wanted to play the games, they can do so easily. This is about graphics and graphics alone. So every single person who supports this is a hypocrite if they ever try to make the claim that graphics don't matter, because the only reason to buy these games is because you want to play better looking older games; completely ignoring the fact that REAL and new content ISN'T being released in a timely manner on new consoles that have had years of research and development put into them.

"but its a gaming website so people still complain about everything just to stand out"

Who gives a flying f*** about standing out? This is called having an opinion and expressing it. You're on the internet and this is somehow a new concept for you?

showtimefolks1208d ago

agains so what? its my money if i want to rebuy GTA5,ME trilogy the last of us and more what's the problem? You tell me a generation where new consoles launched and actually got supported very well for first 12-18 months?

guess what been a gamer for 25 years, when new consoles come out 2 things happen:

1:They don't get a lot of software support for first 18-24 months(this time its different we have already seen both sony and ms release some big titles along with a lot of indie support)

2:remakes. Its a quick way for Publishers to make money so the money they make will go towards more games for next gen consoles. GTA5 i played and loved but there is a part of me that knows that it will be better on pc,xbox one and ps4, so why not buy it when its released

Neonridr

There you go so you missed out on TLOU now you get to play the better version with all the DLC.

DragonKnight

I am not new to anything what is getting repetitive is how much people will complain about the same thing. Remakes are happening and they don't cost a lot so it makes sense to publishers

dead space trilogy
ME trilogy
TLOU
Tome Raider
3 Bioshock games
GTA5
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim(this 1000 times this)
Castlevania lords of shadow collection
Metro 2033 and last light
The Witcher 1-2
GT6(this will happen)

so yeh there are people like me who don't mind buying a game twice or a game that i might have missed. Its my money i can spend it how ever i want

people keep buy a new COD and new AC game every and both those games are like remakes every year yet sell a lot and make billions

I HOPE WE GET MORE REMAKES FOR SUMMER MONTHS WHEN THERE ISN'T A LOT TO PLAY

DragonKnight1208d ago

@showtimefolks: Who the hell cares if it's your money or not? Did anyone tell you not to buy the game? No? So why does anyone need to know that you can do what you want to with your money? 'kay then.

"guess what been a gamer for 25 years, when new consoles come out 2 things happen."

Been one for the same amount of time and guess what, remakes weren't something common until late in the PS3's life and now becoming a mainstay now. It's a lazy cash grab. For goodness sake, the age of these games are ranging from less to a year to 5 years old. That's pathetic.

"I am not new to anything what is getting repetitive is how much people will complain about the same thing. Remakes are happening and they don't cost a lot so it makes sense to publishers."

Did I ask you how old you were? Did anyone? You keep bringing up your age like it negates anything, but it doesn't. Do you know what you also have the right to do beyond just spending your money how you want to? You have the right to click the back button and not read people speaking the truth about this subject. You want to be blissfully ignorant, have fun, no one's stopping you from leaving.

"so yeh there are people like me who don't mind buying a game twice or a game that i might have missed. Its my money i can spend it how ever i want."

I... Don't... Care. I never told you what to do with your money, so along with your age you can drop that.

"people keep buy a new COD and new AC game every and both those games are like remakes every year yet sell a lot and make billions."

Keyword being new, but then you just have to go and show your ignorance. And you've been gaming for how long again?

"I HOPE WE GET MORE REMAKES FOR SUMMER MONTHS WHEN THERE ISN'T A LOT TO PLAY."

That's because you have low standards. You see, you should want new games for the summer months, but you just want to play less than a year old games with better graphics because you have really low standards.

showtimefolks1208d ago

DragonKnight

if that's the case than why don't we get a lot of games in summer time? also why don't we get a lot of new TV shows or even existing TV shows in summer. Its because during summer people are out about doing stuff mostly

New stuff is good no doubt but when it comes to new IP its a huge risk for a publisher. Oh yeh there is so much new in COD every year give me a break, AC has been using the same boring/slow/dull gameplay since AC1. So just because its a new game which has all the stuff from old game somehow makes it new

you seem to have something against remakes, while i on the other hand understand that remakes have their place in gaming today. Also one of the biggest factors is that remakes don't cost that much to a publisher so it makes sense. If you were running a Multi million dollar gaming studios than you would be all over these remakes because its a quick buck

also cash flow from these remakes will go towards new games so what's wrong with that?

What's wrong if EA sells ME trilogy with all the DLC for $60 and 500K people buy it? that money will most likely go towards newer games

people want new IP's yet keep buying the same sequels yearly.

DragonKnight1208d ago

"if that's the case than why don't we get a lot of games in summer time? also why don't we get a lot of new TV shows or even existing TV shows in summer. Its because during summer people are out about doing stuff mostly"

Bzzt, wrong. In terms of television, season's end in the summer due to necessity, not audience. In terms of games there is nothing preventing summer game releases except for the current schedule of releases. Early quarter releases beginning in March are usually filled with good games, this means that people have a lot to buy and so are less likely to buy big releases continuously since they'd go broke. If game releases were more evenly spread out, then summer releases would do well.

"Oh yeh there is so much new in COD every year give me a break, AC has been using the same boring/slow/dull gameplay since AC1. So just because its a new game which has all the stuff from old game somehow makes it new."

Ignorance is truly bliss isn't it? AC and CoD may use the same formulas, but a new game is always a new game. Unless you're going to tell me that Ubisoft released 6 AC games with Altair as the protagonist and Crusader's Era Jerusalem as the setting now.

"you seem to have something against remakes, while i on the other hand understand that remakes have their place in gaming today."

Nope, I bought the FFXHD remaster. I have something against remakes of recent games. They don't have their place in gaming today, people like you just allowed them to happen because you have low standards.

"If you were running a Multi million dollar gaming studios than you would be all over these remakes because its a quick buck."

Nope. If I were a multimillion dollar gaming studio I'd want my new stuff to sell because I make more money off it. I wouldn't be wasting time or resources on lazy rehashes.

"also cash flow from these remakes will go towards new games so what's wrong with that?"

Doubtful. More likely cash flow from these games will go to other expenses because they definitely do not make as much as a new release. Remakes mostly cater to those people who've already played the original game. It caters less to those who haven't since, if they wanted to play the actual game and not graphics they'd have bought it.

"What's wrong if EA sells ME trilogy with all the DLC for $60 and 500K people buy it? that money will most likely go towards newer games."

Because that trilogy is on sale right now for cheaper and releasing it now is just a way to say "hey, we want to milk everything we can out of you, so here's some graphics" and you're eating it up like a good little sheep.

"people want new IP's yet keep buying the same sequels yearly."

Sequels aren't remakes.

A sequel is a new game with many possible new things. A remake is taking something that already exists, giving it a facelift, and reselling it.

But hey, how about I take your car, slap a new coat of paint on it, put in some heated car seats, and then resell it to you at full price. I mean, you're in favour of buying the same thing twice right?
