Is the gaming PC a platform for the rich? GamerHeadlines builds some cheap gaming PCs with the budget of a new generation console to find out!
Or instead of assembling a PC for slightly more than a PS4 that you will not be able to play console exclusive titles on and that may run "most games at 30FPS" you could just pay $399 for a PS4.
While I wholeheartedly agree with your argument, that's not the point of this article.
But what if you don't like Console games but Prefer PC exclusives? Games like Guild Wars 2, Rome Total War 2, Space Engineers, iRacing League, Tropico Series, Path of Exile, Minecraft Titanfall Mod, Eve Online, GTAIV Avengers Mod, etc. a $500 PC or a $400 PC can run these titles very nicely.
600+ bucks is not the same price as a ps4. the system you built for the actual price of the ps4 failed. so the answer is: No. you cannot build a good gaming PC for the same price as a modern console. By failed i mean failed to deliver adequate or comparable performance.
If your going to game on a PC might as well build something a lot more powerful than a console. I honestly dont see the point in spending 400$ on a PC that will perform worse than a PS4.
totally. but that didnt seem like the point of the article.
Consider this - Titanfall doesn't run at 1080p and 60 FPS on the Xbox One, and an Xbox One costs over $500 with taxes. Our two main systems ran Titanfall considerably better than the Xbox One, costing more or less the same. Even our cheapest configuration managed to run Titanfall at 42 FPS with High settings (not completely maxed out) at 1080p. And that's for slightly less than $400. Tune that down to the 792p of the Xbox One version and 60 FPS can be achieved. It's true that competing with the PS4 is harder, mainly because the PS4 has stronger hardware and a better price. Oh, and none of our configurations were 600+ bucks.
"$569" but you forgot(or for some reason excluded) a blu-ray drive. :-D My point was going into this article I figured it was going to be an apples to apples what type of gaming experience can you get for the price of a console. Thats not entirely what I got from reading, however. I will agree that if I was in the market for titan fall, and had no hardware to play it on, that I would probably build a PC after reading this article. :-P P.S. it WAS a good article though.
sorry, one more thing to add, did you check out using an AMD APU and crossfiring with a low level GPU? I heard thats a pretty solid way to go for low-end.
" No. you cannot build a good gaming PC for the same price as a modern console. " ..........and you people continue to FAIL to realize that a PC does more than just PLAY GAMES so therefore the Higher cost and the fact that your going to be using higher quality parts. "I don't remember a PS4/Xb1 touting a 2 oz Copper Motherboard, 80% GOLD PSU, Cd/DVD burner, upgradable set-up, do your taxes, run a business, ability to use ANY controller, PERMANENT backwards capability, blah blah blah. Hence the SLIGHT HIGHER upfront Cost that gets covered and then some when you buy games at $29.99 on PC versus $60 on console and have FREE online MP. I think you just need to take in all the information when making this GENERIC Price argument.
youre not making the same argument. so it doesnt even matter. the point was to make a computer that plays games as good as a console for around the same price. period. I could go on and on about the endless features bot the xb1 and ps4 have that a PC does not but it doesnt matter. to be honest, most phones these days make 90% of PC uses pointless. I can do taxes, bank, web, video, camera, blah blah blah all from my phone.
@that one guy Name one feature either console has that PC does not.
Where are you getting 600+? They even list a system that costs less than 400 that runs games better than a ps4/x1 And don't talk about a OS, Windows 7 is free on unlimted trial, you are just not allowed backgrounds or a sound recorder by default.
I'll show you a decent PC on ebay for around 560 Euros. Its not a well known brand name, but specs are all there except for the OS and a graphics card. The computer case is perfect. Intel i5 4670k better than the CPU listed from the website on here. 3.4ghz 3.8ghz with turbo and overclocking. Just as good as i7 4770 for gaming. No performance gain with the i7 for gaming. Aerocool VP Pro 850 Watt Branded PSU overkill 600 PSU is enough for the best graphic cards. Bargain. Motherboard : Asus Z87-K Crossfire X Support Only. top notch motherboard for 100 Euros on Ebay sold separately has most of the extra features on the more expensive motherboards, its future proof motherboard ready for upgrades. Hardrive 500gb more than enough for storage The website above listed no DVD/Rom, drive or optical drive. How you going to play disks? Optical Drive : 24x Dual Layer DVD Writer Memory : 8gb DDR3 1866mhz Corsair Vengeance Pro Memory http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Z87X... You probably could build this for less, but if you want, just ready to go this is perfect if you on a low budget. Just need the OS and graphics card off you go high end gaming
The PC you listed has no GPU, which is the most important part of a gaming PC. Good luck running anything with on-board graphics cards.
The CPU is still about 180 Euros to 200 Euros on Amazon. The Motherboard is about 100 and something Euros. 300 Euros already. Left with 240 you get 8gigs of memory, a hardrive an optical drive, and PSU unit. Its good value, forget its got no GPU. The website above lists inferior specs, thats means the GPU will still run like crap. The motherboard is cheap your going to end up having problems upgrading it. i3 CPU is not worth buying if your going to be using a 750 nivida card. There is more to a computer than just a GPU [email protected] yes go buy a decent GPU and forget about how the computers runs and performs very intelligent. The computers is decent build for 560 Euros. i5 4670k is one of best processors out there for gaming. i3 is way below that. And what makes it worse they're US prices he reached. Computer parts in Europe are far more expensive to buy, so its a better deal.
Its really sad to see people try and build a gaming PC without a decent GPU.
I agree that the build you posted looks solid. The components within are far better than what we used. That being said, 560 Euros means around $775, and that's without a GPU inside or an operating system, mouse or keyboard. Big or small details, but details we had to take into account. Our experiment wasn't to build a great gaming PC, but to build one that is in the same price-range as the PS4 or Xbox One and runs similarly well. The system you're defending doesn't fit that description.
To me, it's not about the money, it's about the conveience of console gaming. I like my X1 as a gaming machine, netflix, Amazon Instant, Vudu, etc. I enjoy it for all that in one in my living room. I'll enjoy adding the PS4 to the entertainment unit in the near future as well. Some people are into PC gaming and others prefer consoles. It's not always about the money.
Its not the hardware, it's the software that matters. a majority of games that are on console do not interest me. I like my strategy games and MMOs, that are not a on consoles. Buy what you want, you're paying for it!
No. But for double the price of a console you can make a great one.
Unfortunately not. PCs are used for work, films, games, and so many different things. I think that`s why to have a gaming pc + all the rest, you will have to pay more
