Reggie Should Replace Iwata as President of Nintendo, Says Pachter

GR: Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter believes the current Nintendo CEO and president, Satoru Iwata, should be replaced if the company ever hopes to recover from its current financial situation. In fact, the analyst believes Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime would be able to do a much better job.

I doubt Nintendo would allow an american to run the company

acharlez1362d ago

This is true.

Unfortunate, but true.

I'm sure his body is ready, though.

DarthZoolu1362d ago (Edited 1362d ago )

What would the point be? What's he gonna change?

Don't just disagree answer that question. What would he change?

TekoIie1362d ago

@DarthZoolu

For a start he's western and Nintendo is completely out of touch with the western market (NA, SA and Europe).

Nintendo need to at the very least listen to those who have an insight of that market.

UltimateMaster1362d ago (Edited 1362d ago )

Hell no, if Patcher said it, then you know it's the wrong move.
Nintendo needs to have a new direction.
I don't know if they have to change whoever is working there but they need to move the direction that gamers are taking.

InTheLab1362d ago

@darth

Agreed. What would he do any different?

And why on Earth would you replace a gamer like Iwata with a suit like Reggie?

LOL_WUT1362d ago

At this point having Reggie as head of Nintendo wouldn't be so bad. Just get rid of Iwata. ;)

randomass1711361d ago (Edited 1361d ago )

@LOL_WUT

Have you ever considered that blindly replacing Iwata could potentially lead to someone worse than Iwata leading the company? Decisions like these need to be carefully calculated and considered and not done on a whim to satisfy shareholders or spiteful fanboys.

Ausbo1362d ago

I agree. He would be a great head though imo

acharlez1362d ago

No doubt. He definitely cares about the core Nintendo fan.

NCL just has his hands tied.

DarthZoolu1362d ago

They don't have a problem pleasing Nintendo fans, the have a problem attracting everyone else.

videgamenext11362d ago

Reggie is a big part of why xenoblade chronicles made it to the us.

MEsoJD1362d ago

Also, I don't think Reggie is the right person. They need someone new to the company who can bring the company to modern times... A person who can get rid of nonsensical rigid policies.

ChickeyCantor1362d ago (Edited 1362d ago )

yeah and from then on it's a slippery slope. Because modern also means side effects like EA. DLC's everything for example.

Sony so far is the only company that has a healthy view on how to implement ideas and demands.

I love Nintendo games, but im still bitter that F-zero GX had no online mode. I'd still be playing it. Ok im still playing it, but still...BAH.

But I do believe Nintendo has a clear view on a market they can use to their advantage. They just botched it early on with the Wii U. It's picking up steam now though.

Chrischi19881362d ago

As much as I like Reggie, but Pachter is ridiculous...

Debaitable1362d ago

His words are not facts but opinions. Just like anyone else on here who makes comments.

Capt-FuzzyPants1362d ago

Pachter did say that Reggie has an absolute zero chance of becoming President if Iwata is ousted. Pachter was just simply saying Iwata has to go for any progress at Nintendo to be made in Pachter's opinion.

Chrischi19881361d ago

Yeah, but his words are not somewhere in the comments section, no his words form an own comments section, that is a huge difference for me. He is supposed to be someone, people should listen to, but he only speaks ill, doesnt matter about what, not only Nintendo. If somebody should go and leave his job, it is Pachter himself.

Concertoine1362d ago (Edited 1362d ago )

What exactly does Reggie do anymore? Iwata took over as CEO of NOA (hopefully more japanese games) so what does he do? He used to be the crazy guy people associated with nintendo, but the past few years we've barely seen him. I think they could benefit from using him to do the american nintendo directs as well as giving him more stage time at e3 like he used to have. He has a way of hyping people that montone, poor english-speaking japanese guys dont.

BullyMangler1362d ago

again with the pachter? why people post what he has to say?, hese a lame. looking like he dsnt even use baby wipes when he goes to the bathroom.

Rockefellow1362d ago

....who uses baby wipes when they "go to the bathroom?" Do you have something to tell us?

randomass1711361d ago

@bully

...What did any of that even mean?

3-4-51362d ago

The Head of Nintendo should remain in Japan where they are based. That is just the more intelligent decision.

Pachter would LIKE it if Reggie was in charge because he could then sell Nintendo better to the people he gives financial advice to.

* Look at what we in the west do. We thin out ideas, water them down, cookie cut them, and print them out faster than you can fart after eating chilli.

Th4Freak1362d ago

You're sooo right, I mean its not like if the Japanese console market is in decline while the Western market is growing...

MNGamer-N1362d ago

I wonder if he would be about Kicking ass and making games? They need that right now more than ever. I would like this move.

porkChop1362d ago

He'd probably do a much better job than Iwata.

lilbroRx1362d ago (Edited 1362d ago )

Iwata has made the company worth more than Sony and nearly every other game company on Earth. He made Nintendo more profit in 7 years than they had made in the previous 30 combined.

In fact, I think Microsoft may be the only one who financially on the same level now thanks to Iwata. Possibly Blizzard as and Valve as well.

Reggie on the other hand refused to bring over Xenoblade, The Last Story, and pretty much every popular Japanese game and still does even on the Wii U.

Reggie is the one overseeing the terrible Wii U advertising currently going on in the U.S.

The Wii U and the 3DS have been doing rather decent in Japan. Its America and Europe where most of the problems are.

By what logic would Reggie be better than Iwata?

incendy351362d ago

Do you really think Nintendo is on the same level as Microsoft financially? Microsoft's last earnings report was 30 billion, with 6 billion in profits. Nintendo posted 211 million loss on their last earning report.

-Foxtrot1362d ago

You know I keep seeing people stick up for Iwata on how he made a prfit and how he made the Wii successfull but heres the thing...in the bussiness world you have to keep going. Even if you cured cancer you wouldn't be safe, if things take a sour turn later on and you loose your mojo then people will want you gone.

Especially in the gaming business as we are now into a new generation of consoles. If Iwata is failing at what he's doing then he's got to go, yeah the 3DS is doing well and the Wii was a success but at the CURRENT time he's not helping the Wii U out at all.

acharlez1362d ago

True, but I think Iwata has peaked. It's only downhill from here for him.

Reggie on the other hand..... How could you say no to that face?

adorie1362d ago (Edited 1362d ago )

Microsoft has lost enough money, in the past, on Xbox, to put Nintendo in dire straits.
Microsoft are in another league of financial power and Xbox is helped by their insane revenue streams. I'm not saying Xbox isn't ptofitable, but compared to everything else they do-software, it's just a blip.

TXIDarkAvenger1362d ago

@-Foxtrot

Not helping the Wii U at all? Just go look up a list of games coming out. 3DS started off the same way, it started off slow but look at it now. Just wait till Smash comes out, Wii U will sell like crazy this holiday season.

-Foxtrot1362d ago (Edited 1362d ago )

@AnimeAvenger

Mario Kart
Smash Bros U
Bayonetta 2
X
Sonic Boom

....thats it really. Zelda U but it hasn't been announced yet.

After Mario Kart we'll be going through another dry spot. Zelda 2015 while X/Bayonetta 2/Smash Bros haven't got release dates.

ChickenOfTheCaveMan1361d ago

Sorry, but the success of the Wii was a fluke.

It's like a bad movie grossing 500+ million at the box office. It doesn't make the movie better or the director a genius, it's a fluke and word to ear.

randomass1711361d ago (Edited 1361d ago )

@WackyVee

You're also leaving out the DS and 3DS. That's three consecutive money making successes in a row. Those were not all flukes. They were smart ideas that were marketed by smart people. All of which were headed with Iwata as president. Should Yoshida be fired because the Vita isn't selling well in the west? I think absolutely not.

edit @Foxtrot The DS was another one of Iwata's high points and that device almost met the same sales numbers as the PS2. Wii U's one potential failure is not nearly enough to suddenly wipe Iwata's record. He's done a lot of good for Nintendo and he can help Nintendo's future hardware endeavors. Maybe the Wii U was just a learning experience. Who knows?

incendy351362d ago

Reggie? Really? To me he has always seemed more fit to be a Wallmart Greeter than a game executive.

acharlez1362d ago

Ouch. That's a little harsh don't you think?

He's easily one of the most personable people over at Nintendo.

incendy351362d ago

I always feel like he is talking to either a young child or an elderly person. It is insulting to consumers.
