"Plans for a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, codenamed 'Mingy Jongo,' have been cancelled despite heavy fan support, according to composer Grant Kirkhope.
A group of ex-Rare employees, including Kirkhope, joined together in 2012 in hopes of making a game similar in kind to the first two games of the Banjo-Kazooie franchise: chock full of unique enemies, cartoony main characters and interesting “zones” to explore and collect in.
The game’s namesake came from an enemy in Banjo-Tooie: a robot creation similar to Mumbo Jumbo that went by the name of Mingy Jongo. It was never made clear whether Mingy Jongo would be the main enemy in the new game or not." - Mercer Smith-Looper
But Nintendo were “surprised” by Smash reaction.
If you know me, and I know you people at N4G do, when I need metrics on the possibility of a new game I always ask the composer.
Having said that sarcastically, I think the only way we'll see a new game in the series is if they find a way to reinvent the game for a modern age.
I doubt it would
Neither Mega Man’s not Simon & Richter Belmont’s inclusion in the roster instantly led to a new game within their series. No reason to believe Banjo & Kazooie’s would.
it wont, rare don't want to revisit old ip except for ones nobody cares about like battletoads
Grant Kirkhope, the composer of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, explains what he thinks the issue was with the often-criticized Xbox 360 title.
I actually liked it for what it was. But then again I'm not a Banjo fan. I actually hated a lot of the N64 style games that all followed the same Mario 64 style. Except for Conker.
I really enjoyed this game, the building was fun, I thought it was a well made platformer.
I kind of agree. The game had many new ideas that would have worked better in a new IP as people wouldn't be so upset that Nuts & Bolts played so differently from the older titles.
I seriously hate how angular the redesigns are for so many of the characters in the game
The X06 trailer built people’s hopes only for the final release to ruin those dreams
Damn right it should have
Can we just get Banjo Threeie and write this game off as Kazooies bad dream or something. An in game joke.
In a recent interview, Banjo-Kazooie composer Grant Kirkhope was asked about how he felt when he heard his music in the character reveal trailer for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and how it compared to his other career highlights.
According to the living legend himself, it’s on par with the time Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was first revealed for the Nintendo Switch at the Ubisoft E3 conference a number of years ago:
Banjo & Kazooie were heavily requested characters ever since the first SSB. Now they’re finally being allowed to intermingle with the Nintendo family again
This is the greatest thing to happen for the characters since the XBLA remasters.
Seeing those fan reactions was crazy! A lot of love out there for these two characters.
if MS didn't say they had no problem with Banjo in Smash before even the initial release. It would be mind blowing. But it was obvious to come unless Nintendo was just being dumb. It's great though, just expected at this point. Especially after Joker
It would be nice if Sony did the same thing with their characters or made a good clone.
