The Elder Scrolls Online Column - First Impressions Matter I Expansive

Can you ever really ‘review’ an MMORPG? The games constantly develop, are ever-expanding and always frequently changing, sometimes as much as several times a week. A base review does not even begin to scratch the surface of the developer’s overall plan.

Expansive are introducing a regular TESO Column, basing coverage on the most recent patch updates and the team's in-game progress.

The good news is that there’s a lot to like.

the game sucks.

It's basically World of Warcraft but with Elder Scrolls skin. graphics are NOT impressive at all. Game play is Generic, not as generic as SWTOR but right around the same level of ZZZZZZZZZZzzzz.

ESO SWTOR and Neverwinter are really disappointing MMO's.

It was boring until about level 14-15 then got like 100 times better. And it's really made to be played with others, alone can be boring as well. You may not like the graphics but I think they are fine and like the style.

This game really shines in the PVP area of the game, if you haven't yet and still can I recommend doing that.

Everyone that's a friend seems to be enjoying it. I haven't been able to bring myself to try it yet. I guess I'm afraid I would be disappointed.

I am enjoying it but I bought it not expecting an Elder Scrolls game. If you are expecting it that, it won't live up to your expectations.

Thanks for your feedback! I'm still on the fence.

On a different note: I love it when people disagree with your comment but don't explain themselves.

I expected an Elder Scrolls game with MMO elements and not Skyrim Online and that's exactly what I got. The PVE aspect of the game is very TES. The lore, the quests, exploration, books, looting etc is all there and feels like your playing an TES game with thousands of other players around you. It just has the MMO style combat feel to it.

I'm currently 200 hours in and Vet Rank 2 and can't get enough. The people saying this game is generic and what not, are just upset TES fans that a single player franchise got an MMO.

This game doesn't have those real generic quest like "Collect 20 of this" or "Kil 20 of that" and the quest is over. Instead, quest like that, that make you collect things are in a quest chain and you use those items you collected in various ways throughout the quest. The same cannot be said for those other supposedly "superior" MMOs.

You can complain about the price and fee, but the content justifies both. Like I said, 200 hours in and I still have 2 whole Alliances worth of quest to do (which is about 300 hours of content), plus PVP content that has additional PVE content within. Not to mention the free massive area with even more PVE content coming at the end of the month. I've spent more time and more fun with this game than any other game in a long time.

The only thing that makes me feel like it's not elder scrolls is I see everyone doing the same quests. Outside of that though you are spot on.
