Triple Down - How Multiple Characters Ruined Grand Theft Auto V

Ricky from Twinfinite writes; "For a studio famous for its amazing narratives, the story of Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V seems to have been forgotten about remarkably fast. The reason why, we think, is tied to perhaps its most famous gameplay mechanic; the ability to switch between multiple protagonists at any time." (Grand Theft Auto V, PS3, Xbox 360)

This author makes a good point about the differences in story execution for GTAIV and GTAV.

I disagree that the feature ruined gta 5 as it was rly awesome, but I wouldn't want gta 6 having it. Would prefer a single character nxt gen gta

I don't mind either way. I was actually good for me because I don't see how I would bear through the whole game with Franklin.

However, I'd like a GTA fully centered around a character like Michael.

What's wrong with Franklin? Plus, Michael complains too much, and frankly I could care less about his family issues. I think Trevor and Franklin were the best.

For me, the multiple characters didn't ruin the game for me, but it diffidently made it to where i didn't care for the characters and didn't care what happened to them. But i did enjoy the missions because they were pretty insane, especially driving the truck off that big ass plane.

The title of this article should be "Unpopulor Opinion Article for Ad revenue/Clicks #413!"

I'm open-minded so this doesn't bother me at all! i played SONIC ADVENTURE 2 on the DREAMCAST years ago and it had multiple characters, which is was awesome, it's was new and a fresh idea that i enjoyed it. So GTA with multiple characters is not bad, it's just ppl like that with a one-track mind that think that's ruined it because they're not adapted to that idea of juggling between characters. Gamers like those annoys the #%&! out of me! complain, complain, complain, that all i hear from gamers today. For ppl don't like a game that has multiple characters, microtransactions(even though the creative director of the crew said you'll still have to level up to use the parts that you bought with real-world cash so they'll be already bought in the game), don't play it! other that do like to play with multiple characters and is ok with microtransactions(because players in the crew won't get a free pass and put them on that they bought with real-world cash without leveling up first), then have fun with it. Gamers today are very gard to please!

I loved having multiple characters, don't mind if they just go for 1 in the next game though, either way I'm happy.

Didn't really ruin it for me, was rather interesting how it all played out with the story & multiple characters.

It's like they took GTA IV, add the two expansions and merged everything together in one big story, which was kinda refreshing and also gave you more value.

If i have one complaint about the game , it's that it doesn't have as much content as San Andreas did, that game was freaking huuuge, also the map of SA just feels much bigger to me than GTA V's, maybe because of the multiple cities/country side/desert , i don't know, still overall it's a big improvement over IV.

I love when random people try to tell an artist that their artwork is wrong or ruined.

Trevor was easily the most interesting and could have easily been the main character. The game could have been entirely based around the world of meth cooking and drug dealing with all the meth freaks and the crazy shit they do. That would have been wild.
InzBro7  +   504d ago
It didn't ruin the game completely but it would have been preferable to have a customizable character with the option to be crazy or same by how we choose what we do in the game

I thought it was cool and well done.

I think the title of this post is a bit hyperbolical. The 3 characters didn't ruin the game; however, they did hinder parts of the narrative's structure. For instance, I'm surprised the game only had 69 missions (better be a coincidence Rockstar, otherwise it's your saddest 69 joke yet), considering there are 3 protagonists; however, GTA 5's missions are the most overwhelming and fledged out of any other GTA game. I feel like the initial narrative was doing well, Franklin was working with Lamar- getting involved in repos and gang-banging, and Michael was dealing with family issues, but then it seems like the plot was rushed when Trevor abruptly met Michael, and the FIB got involved- which was infuriating. The ending also felt rushed, Michael's and Trevor's optional deaths could have been more dramatic. Nonetheless, the narrative was still written well by Dan Houser.
