Roundtable: Will Virtual Reality in Games Ever Take Off?

The VGU staff discuss virtual reality and if it is about to take off in the gaming world.

MysticStrummer3673d ago

Sure, as soon as it's cheap enough yet high quality. Some games will always be better for it than others, but with the popularity of 1st person games it's obvious many gamers like to be really put into the environment. It's all about immersion. Surround sound and a good screen can go a long way, but good cheap VR would naturally be better.

Agreed. 10 years down the line when it is affordable will be when it will really take off.

"Sure, as soon as it's cheap enough yet high quality."

So much this.

Reminds me of the Nexus 7 2012 (impetus of the price/performance sweet deal) and 1st ipad Mini trend... cheap(er) but good enough.

IMO... Will go the way of the old 90s Arcades and modern 3D television.Too expensive with/without head tracking camera bundle. I also believed that no one can experience a full 8 to 10 hours of game play wearing VR.

I hope it gets support! I love my 3d tvs, and being more immersed in the game world sounds awesome!

I think it's going to take off in the next Couple of years. What I want to see are vr movies as well. So much potential here I have a feeling its all coming sooner than we think.

starchild3673d ago

Yeah, VR will hit big within the next two years and it will likely steadily grow thereafter. It might even explode and reach many tens of millions of people in the next few years. We'll see, but I have no doubt that VR is going to be a big part of our future.

Sathur3673d ago (Edited 3673d ago )

Not a chance. over the years I have bought everything. And I mean everything and not once have I been interested in VR. It will never take off. Ever.
its no more than a gimmick. a cash grab while its still a novelty.

Profchaos34d ago

crazyCoconuts34d ago

I was lucky and held off on 4 until I played it in VR. It really is pretty awesome - you'll love it.

The icing on the cake would be if Sony / Valve allow for a Steam Link app much like it is for the Quest 3. Likely wishful thinking, though.
