Free Wii / DS DLC Will Become Unavailable Following Wi-Fi Shutdown

All the free DLC released for Wii and DS games will become unavailable after the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection shutdown coming on May 20th (Nintendo DS, Wii)

I think people are forgetting that only Nintendo games themselves, and not games by third parties (unless published by Nintendo and hosted on their servers), are affected by this. That's disappointing, but there are many games that still will function fine.

That not point for the shutdown. They are shutting it down for Wii U and 3DS Nintendo Online games match making. Such as Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros.

...thank you for reiterating exactly what I said in a confusing, borderline illiterate way. Your reply was useless and nonsensical.

It's my obligation to sound off every time such a story surfaces: If Nintendo shuts down online access so quickly after they move on to a new system (Wii -> WiiU) then they can't be trusted with online access in the future either. I will not be buying anything from Nintendo that requires or benefits greatly from online access, ever.

The console is going on 8 years old, and the DS is going on 10, so you should have expected they would do this.

Microsoft did the same for the original Xbox, too.

I know right cause after 8 years for the Wii and 10 for the DS they should totally keep those servers running in case one of the handful of people suddenly feel the need to play a Wii or DS game online...

3 years after 3DS launches is hardly too soon after, the fact that you can still play DS games is lucky enough, the online costs money and surely the numbers of people playing mario kart DS over the new 3DS version are getting smaller and smaller by the day, 3DS is seriously starting to shift so I don't see why this is such a bad thing 3 years! After the new console came out some of these games are at least 5 years old if not more at least the single player side of things will work, EA turn off the servers for their games barely 2 years after they come out sometimes and that's nothing to do with a new console it's just purely because EA are money grabbing whores and need to have a new iteration of the same game out every 12 months.

This is a smart move, since a lot of people will be forced to upgrade.

It's smart, doesn't mean I agree with it. I'm still holding off on buying the Wii.U.

I did upgrade to the 2Ds though (well downgrade in some cases), I don't EVER use the 3D and frankly it's more comfortable than even the XL is...I was shocked how much I can play without cramps.

The sound quality is terrible through speakers though, I have to use headphones to enjoy the music at max:)

This is why people are terrified of digital, yes its only online play being affected but sooner or later they might choose to shut down the online as well...and since your games tie into your system (So stupid btw...having games locked to ur system), most users might not be as affected by it...either way...I buy all my games digital for Vita (yes I know...but the damn cartridges are soo small and frankly changing one on subway is too annoying) and physical copies for 3Ds (other than a minimal select few...which i got for free or as a bonus).
