Oculus Rift Selling 'Just Fine' After Facebook Buyout, Company Claims

VRFocus - Oculus VR has claimed that sales of its second developer kit (DK2) for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset are doing’just fine’ following news of Facebook’s $2 billion USD acquisition of the outfit. The statement was made by the company’s Community Manager on the official Oculus Rift forums in response to claims the device would ‘flop’ after the sale of the company, which was announced earlier this week.

The story is too old to be commented.

Well it's selling to developers primarily at this point why shouldn't it? I could even imagine that more developers want it now that Facebook aquired it ...because they think the platform as a whole and of course the chances of success will be bigger.

Ghost_of_Tsushima1334d ago

Well a company isn't exactly going to say it isn't selling well. Lol

The awkward moment when the DK2 kits are selling thousands every day...

All of their responses have reeked of PR, especially Palmer's.

They are doing fine, they can always lower prices. They now need to prove that going with facebook was a good thing. So hope to see and hear something soon about lower prices combined with new upgrades too oculus rift.

Don't think they will launch their own first party studios for oculus rift, but they have the money to do so. If they can spend 19bn on whatsapp and 2bn on oculus rift we might see some more vr/gaming related aquisitions.

What else would he say?

It sucks to be bought by FB but it's just fine we did it for the ca$h.
another company that will end up like Rare (among others) but Sony have their VR and it's shaping up to be a success.

Sony, Valve, now Razer. Plenty of companies that are putting gaming first. And one can only guess if there is another gaming first entity on the verge of announcing something.

How many are canceling? Many of the users in the Oculus subreddit canceled their orders.

abzdine1334d ago

shouldn't be a problem with the 2$bn they got

Peekayboo1334d ago

Canceling an order at this point is meaningless. If they don't buy a rift for the next 3 to 5 years on a large enough scale that will mean something

Oculus is obviously going to do well. It's just a shame fb is attached to it now. Just bc the company sucks doesn't mean the product will.
