Record PS3 gameplay using your PS3

Sony Worldwide Studios boss Phil Harrison has revealed to the Official PlayStation Magazine (excerpts posted on Three Speech) that Sony is working on a way for users to record gameplay and share it with friends.

The plan is to enable such a feature with one specific title, but the functionality could apply to PlayStation 3 titles in general as well.

"We're actually already working on it now," said Harrison on the recording functionality. "There are two ways to do it. One is as pure video actually saved direct from the gameplay experience, but that creates quite a large data cloud. The more efficient way of doing it is to record game input and then share that to each user. We are doing that in a very innovative way on a game that we haven't shown anybody yet."

The story is too old to be commented.

Don't get your panties in a bunch; PC games have been doing demo recording and spectating like this way before the 360 came out, and nobody is whining about that.

One word: FRAPS

Look that one up.

No matter what system or PC this is a cool feature. I was wishing I could do this last night when I was play'n GOW.

Yeah no joke. The only thing that worries me is the space it consumes when you are recording and the ease of deleting that information without affecting gameplay. Kinda sucks when you record a crapload of video that isn't a great take and you run out of room.

Yeah thammer, we were talking about that last night. one of my guys was being chained sawed when i starting chainsawing the chain sawer (did that make sense?) anyway everyone laughed and was wishing we could watch it over agian.

also we did a 4 man stump on the last guy left. he went down and we all gathered around for one gaint curb stump.

crazy how the skull rolls off and the brian lays there...have you noticed it makes a squeshing noise when you walk over the brians too?

...and show it to a friend or two, but to be honest, I don't think too many people will actually want to watch other people playing. I'd rather play.

I'm sure the machinima community will be pretty happy.
