If true, that's cheaper than i expected. I would have guessed upwards of $300. I think $249 would be the ideal starting price.

Mikey322301404d ago

I would love a $199.99 Price point. I think that would make it more of a must have, easier for people to adopt to

NewMonday1404d ago

this is crazy low

doesn't Sony want to make money?

as a consumer I shouldn't complain, OK I'll take 4 of those

Hatsune-Miku1404d ago

Glorious. Proper price point and I'm hoping it gets a lot of success if it's done properly. Buying project morpheus first day

FITgamer1404d ago

$300 or less and it's a day one purchase without a doubt.

morganfell1404d ago

At any price for me. But for consumer adoption it does need to stay at $299 or below.

kneon1404d ago

They could be selling it at cost and expecting to make up the difference on added software sales.

ThanatosDMC1404d ago

Honestly, i want it to be like $150... i want to buy steaks for dinner.

ABizzel11404d ago (Edited 1404d ago )

LMAO, I could have sworn you and the 4 other disagree told me $249 - $299, would only happen in my dreams, you've got to be in the know......runs and hide.

SilentNegotiator1404d ago (Edited 1404d ago )

Considering that it requires the camera, it had better be cheaper than that. For me to pay $250+, all of the components would have to be handled by the Morpheus.

TheGreatAndPowerful1404d ago

It looks mad expensive though but if they're able to get it down to that price it would be amazing.

gaffyh1404d ago

Too much IMO. It needs to be no more than $199 because you will have to also buy PSEye and possibly a move controller too.

RyuCloudStrife1404d ago

Yeah 250 is SWEET I was thinking 300-350.

justSumDood1404d ago

I'm ready and willing to pay $1000 if need be.
And why not? I paid that much for my Samsung Plasma.
And when it comes down to it, Morpheus (like Oculus) is NOT a peripheral, it's a display.

Besides, you can't put a price on a good VR experience.

gaffyh1403d ago

Disagree all you want, but the fact is that $250-300 IS NOT a mass market price, when you will also have to buy a PS4 on top of that. $199 possible, but any more is WAY too much.

@fanboys - I'm not saying the VR is bad, I'm saying the rumored price is wrong.

TheTwelve1404d ago

Agreed. Anything cheaper, and I would have questioned it's quality. This is a good price.

Pillsbury11404d ago

200-300 seems reasonable as Sony are hardware manufactures that create lenses and screens.

BX811404d ago

Cheaper than you expected? I don't think any console add on would sell well if it's equal or greater the price of the console it's self. I said to someone this morning $250-300. It just makes sense.

T21404d ago

agreed , 299 is the price I expected based on sony learning the 599 ps3 lesson....

I said all along ps4 would not be over 449 and this I expect to be no more than 299.... about twice what a good headset costs is pretty fair considering you can forego a whole tv for it.

imt5581404d ago

Well, this is cheap if price will be like this in future.

Angeljuice1404d ago

So is this the reason for the still unannounced new PS4 IP's?

I wonder if this has anything to do with that Media Molecule game that was reported as being 'mind blowing'.

A VR Little Big Planet where you jump into the world you create?

Hopefully we'll see a load of info on these projects now the lid is officially off.

ddkshah1404d ago (Edited 1404d ago )

Omg like a straight scrolling platformer like crash bandicoot!!! :D <3

BitbyDeath1404d ago

That'd be wicked if you could play in a first person view of sackboy but on the actual TV everyone else sees it as though you are in a side-scroller.

DemonChicken1404d ago

I think it is achievable, as reported by kotaku, OC is $350 but that is with a camera to track movement.

So yeah all in all I think it should be cheaper and so the VR + PS4 camera together should come into the OC price range

Mr Logic1404d ago

Anything under $300 would be great IMO. Here's to hoping lots of games adopt it.

*fingers crossed for Mirror's Edge 2*

Pillsbury11404d ago

That and...DYING LIGHT, I want to be in a zombie apocalypse.

sAVAge_bEaST1404d ago

I called $249, before it was even confirmed..

$249 is a magic number, and will it move a ton of units,.
(psychology speaking)

starchild1403d ago

$250 to $299 is "upwards of $300". Did anybody really think this was going to cost as much as the PS4 itself? It would never get any significant adoption at that price. I predicted this price range since the first rumors started.

Majin-vegeta1404d ago

$249 for Vr headset by itself.

and $299 for VR headset bundled with something is my guess

Kayant1404d ago

Ultra bundle with move for $350 ;)

Cryptcuzz1404d ago

Hi Abriael, I also read on some articles that mention of a "processing unit" as well.

Have you heard or know details of such a unit?

XiSasukeUchiha1404d ago

$250 VR device sounds perfect Sony is really bring it when it comes to price

AaronPS1404d ago

And I bet once again the UK will get screwed, $250 is fantastic but my guess is if it is $249.99 then the UK price will be £199.99.

Abriael1404d ago

You can bet your monthly wages on it. and the same will happen to Europe, that will get the price translated 1:1 from the US one.

Kayant1404d ago

Well we do have 20% VAT already added to that price but still....

Drakesfortune1404d ago

I hate how we get screwed in be fair i just hate how screwed are country is.

AndrewLB1403d ago

You Brits want to stop getting screwed on everything you buy? Kick the socialists out of your Government.

Additionally, Americans need to open their damn eyes and realize that O'Berry is trying to the same thing here even though socialism has been nothing but a complete failure every step of the way since Woodrow Wilson f**ked everything up starting with the Federal Reserve.

The problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other peoples money. -M.Thatcher.

ThatOneGuyThere1404d ago (Edited 1404d ago )

you guys are used to getting screwed. *cough* taxes *cough*

Edit: You need to look up the definition for "free" if you're paying for it through taxes, its not free. also, your tax dollar goes a lot less than a normal dollar, as you end up paying the salary of every bureaucrat between you and your doctor.

T21404d ago

well it's all relative for free healthcare and free university in europe, hell I would pay tax for that.... well i already do for one of them in canada.

mike32UK1404d ago

£199 is ridiculously cheap. I have the HMZ-T2 personal viewer and that cost me £700

AaronPS1404d ago

I'm not saying that it's not cheap. It's just the fact that the pricing for gaming in the UK is ridiculous in comparison with the US. Paying £50 for games when the US pays $60. Well rant over

mike32UK1404d ago

Oh right sorry yeah I agree! Pretty ridiculous especially that new games are the same price in £'s on the PlayStation store as they are in $'s!

stuna11404d ago

Like I said in another article, for a competitor to name a price off the rip, they're just asking for the competition to undercut them!

SteamPowered1404d ago

I think the Rift will fall right in line with the $300 price point.
