Nintendo’s Friendly Reminder: No More Internet May 20th for These Games

"Nintendo of UK has sent out a new press release today once again reminding Nintendo players of the fact that once May 20th rolls around, online play on most Nintendo DS and Wii games will be shut off. Previously, Nintendo already announced that this would affect titles like Pokemon and Mario Kart, but today the company reiterated that this internet shut-off would also affect non-multiplayer games, such as Professor Layton and Animal Crossing, which may have had downloadable content" -- Nintendo Enthusiast.

Misleading tags.

It is ONLY FOR Nintendo DS Family and Wii.

Not Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.

paleselan1496d ago

Wii U and 3DS are both backwards compatible and play those games on their internet-enabled settings.

That not related to the article.

Good, maybe now the holdouts will move on to Wii U. Wii U is a great console.

I suspect that is part of Nintendo's intentions, especially considering they're shutting the online network for Wii and DS very close to the release of Mario Kart 8.

However, I don't think it's right of them to do this, especially regarding the Wii, which isn't THAT old.

lilbroRx1496d ago

The Wii is almost 8 years old.

deafdani1496d ago

@lilbro: so is the PS3, and the 360 is even older than that. Yet these consoles still have continued online support with no plans to close them in the foreseeable future.

I stand by my point. I believe it's still too soon to be cutting online from games on the Wii.

The cut support because the nintendo wifi connection was operated by gamespy. Nintendo isn't trying to trick you into upgrading.

Who cares Playing the Wii online sucks anyway

Locknuts1496d ago

The Wii sucks in general. The Wii U is heaps better.

Chrischi19881496d ago

Mario Kart Wii Online was one of the best things, you troll.

DoggyBiscuit1496d ago

I'm not a troll I'm a Wii owner myself I'm just being honest

The Wii did rock, but Wii U is the way to go now. It costs Nintendo resources to support the Wii and sales as well. My company also has to support "legacy" products at considerable cost and resources, as well as sales, so I completely understand.
