Gamersyndrome provides some speculation as to whether subscription based MMO's have a chance in today's gaming world.
I spoke to an avid Skyrim fan. I mean a level 83 legitimatly avid fan 350+ hour fan. He told me he has no problem paying a subscription fee. So yeah there are people out there that will pay for it... the question is how many?
Micro transactions tend to cripple the MMO community where cashiers are over powered compared to those who just play. I think a subscription fee is required to maintain a fair balance.
If i had to choose between micro transactions or a subscription fee, i would choose subscription fee. I hate micro transactions, i don't want to be playing my game and when i go to upgrade my equipment i find that the best stuff needs to be paid for with real money. It ruins the enjoyment of a game massively.
