Not surprised to be honest. Game has won tons of awards and praise.

Septic1585d ago

And for good reason. It is a classic.

Hatsune-Miku1585d ago (Edited 1585d ago )

Tlou sequel confirmed for ps4. I can't wait. This game might manage to sell about as much as halo 3

Abash1585d ago

Wow in less than a year it sold 6 million? Amazing

Ezz20131585d ago (Edited 1585d ago )

wow, New IP,
coming late in last gen consoles ,
get all the awards in the whole world plus won 2 or 3 more awards from aliens ,
on one single console
sold 6 million in less than a year?!

Damn that's incredible

hehe @ lolchartz

Oppai1585d ago

But vgchartz says this Playstation game only sold about 4 million...

darthv721585d ago

I know i will get lots of hate for this but....

I dont have this game yet. And its my own damn fault. I been so wrapped up in filling my ps1 and ps2 collection with hidden gems to go out and get anything new-ish lately.

My buddy says this game is just pure epicness and I believe him (along with all the vids and reviews i have read). I really do owe it to myself to bite the bullet and get this game.

I want to play it and find out the details about the clickers.

Septic1585d ago

Check this documentary out on Cordyceps first before playing the game:

Oh and don't watch any more gameplay videos.

The Last of Us' premise is based on this, real life phenomenon! Still sends chills down my spine.

Why o why1585d ago (Edited 1585d ago )

Enjoy darth. Fortunately it's a single player game primarily so there's no expiry on its core objective.

Just like you can still pick up and enjoy titles like shadow of the colossus, you can still enjoy this. Have fun

MelvinTheGreat1585d ago

Not gonna happen. I loved the last of us, it was awsome, but it failed to beat
Halo 4, the worst halo created. Not a large enough following to beat halo 3

Xsilver1585d ago (Edited 1585d ago )

Can Someone say Sequel :D

scott1821585d ago

Can't wait for TLOU 2 on the PS4!

PoSTedUP1585d ago

@darth: i was on the same page as you (ps1/psp) and didnt play it right away bc of that, too. i only played it december/jan.. my advice to you, bc if you enjoy retro just as much as i do (or even more.. impossible tho. jk ;), is to put them down for a sec. and play this. its a dream come true as far as atmosphere go. the level of detail and gameplay is something i would expect from a ps4 game. the story is a whole different beast.

Kingthrash3601584d ago (Edited 1584d ago )
dont hate congragulate...if you gunna compare compare to a game thats as in new ip.

jebabcock1584d ago

Vgchartz doesn't track online game sales...

badz1491584d ago

Great game, great reception and great sales! Congrats ND and Sony!

DragonKnight1584d ago

I thought PS fans didn't support first party titles eh?

PS titles always have long legs and continue to sell long after they should have stopped. Awesome numbers for such an amazing and worthy game.

Amazing how a new IP at the end of last generation was able to prove that it can be successful. This just shows everyone make a good game and people will flock to it no matter if it's a new IP, an exclusive, a certain period of time etc. People will buy quality. I'm happy it was a commercial success. This gets me more excited for new IP's. I want new characters to clench on to.

mkis0071584d ago

The fact that it is a new IP on one console is huge.

Crazyglues1585d ago (Edited 1585d ago )

Well deserved... it's one of my favorite games of last gen... Really enjoyed that game..

Even the DLC they just came out with was awesome...

One of the best games I've ever played. -(I hope we get a Part 2 on PS4, man that would be awesome..)

dasbeer881585d ago

Microsoft take notes please. And by "take notes" I don't specifically mean pump out more sequels, prequels, spinoffs from your original IPs.

Evilsnuggle1585d ago (Edited 1585d ago )

Now who said first party games don't sell. Suck it fanboys
I want a The Last Of Us 2 tomorrow on PS4 ND!!!!

Monolith1584d ago

Majin-vegeta1585d ago (Edited 1585d ago )

Well done ND.You guys have the highest awarded game in history.

Eyeco1585d ago

For a new IP released that late into the console life span, that's amazing.

Picnic1585d ago (Edited 1585d ago )

It's an OK figure. 10 million would be a magic mark but Playstation has so many games that it might sometimes harm itself. I mean, did Resistance need to become a series when there's Killzone?

A problem is that sequels don't necessarily sell better. Look at Max Payne 2. But I guess Remedy didn't have Naughty Dog's history of games behind them to guarantee sequel sales.

JaredH1585d ago (Edited 1585d ago )

Tomb Raider (2013) sold 6 million copies across multiple devices, is an established ip, is the best selling out of its ip, is deemed profitable and successful. The Last of Us managed to sell the same amount on 1 console in less time. It's not just "OK", it's impressive imo.

I also have no clue what your even trying to say in the rest of your comment. Sony shouldn't want a sequel to the game because they have too many franchises and it didn't sell YOUR benchmark of 10 million? Then you give a fairly out of date example, that's not really comparable to the Last of Us for various reasons, for why a sequel may not sell.

Cupid_Viper_31585d ago

At the very least you should spell your name backwards as it closer representation of what you do. Nicpic.

Crystallis1585d ago (Edited 1585d ago )

"""It's an OK figure"""

Geezzuus! Only a few titles hit 10 million units exclusively. GT and halo come to mind. 6 million units sold is an outstanding number of units especially for an exclusive. Do you know how many developers want to hit 2 million units sold nonetheless 6 million.

Eyeco1584d ago

I..don't even..what..what is this ?

kenshiro1001584d ago (Edited 1584d ago )

Since when 10 million a magical number...?

It sold well. Give credit where it's due.

plaZeHD1584d ago (Edited 1584d ago )

6 million is a lot. Red dead and Arkham City sold the same or less amount on ps3.

glad to hear,most definately deserved

TheFallenAngel1585d ago

This game should be over 10 million.

Clogmaster1584d ago

Agent_00_Revan1584d ago

There are How many PS3 owners out there? and only 6 million have experienced this amazing game?! Shame on those others.

shivvy241584d ago

im disappointed that I haven't got this game yet, but I am definitely getting this fo sho

Why o why1584d ago (Edited 1584d ago )

More than that. See people are still allowed to borrow......the right somebody tried to groom us into giving up.

I borrowed it to a mate plus my nephew played it at mine before I lent it out. More than 6 million people have experienced the greatness of the last of us

@shivvy, there's no rush unless you're into multiplayer. If not then this game has longevity. I think it will still be relevant for years to come

Picnic1584d ago

I get 43 disagrees for my view is that 6 million is an OK figure (for such a great game)

You get 34 agrees and no disagrees for saying pretty much exactly the same thing as me- that it would be right for this game to get closer to 10 million sales.

You just said it in a different way.

Did people honestly think that my use of the word 'OK' was meant to imply that ND had somehow failed in not getting the higher sales figures that I think it deserved?

Donkey Kong Country- about 8 million sales.
Goldeneye- about 10 million sales.

These were exclusives just like The Last of Us is. Now some might say (well they don't- they vote but they don't tend to say) 'But Donkey Kong was already a well known figure. James Bond was a well known character and Goldeneye was a well known film'. But they forget that Goldeneye could have sold far less successfully as a result of the game being delayed for a whole 2 years after the film had been released.

You can't logically disagree with the main point I made and yet agree with TheFallenAngel. If you do, you're sying '6 million is brilliant. 10 million is SUPER brilliant'. You start sounding like a child.

Or do you think that it deserved no more than 6 million sales? In a world of 6 BILLION people?
