Sony announce that The Last of Us has sold over 6 million copies and that Left Behind is now the highest rated PS3 DLC ever.
Not surprised to be honest. Game has won tons of awards and praise.
And for good reason. It is a classic.
Tlou sequel confirmed for ps4. I can't wait. This game might manage to sell about as much as halo 3
Wow in less than a year it sold 6 million? Amazing
wow, New IP, coming late in last gen consoles , get all the awards in the whole world plus won 2 or 3 more awards from aliens , on one single console sold 6 million in less than a year?! Damn that's incredible http://i.kinja-img.com/gawk... @oppai hehe @ lolchartz
But vgchartz says this Playstation game only sold about 4 million...
I know i will get lots of hate for this but.... I dont have this game yet. And its my own damn fault. I been so wrapped up in filling my ps1 and ps2 collection with hidden gems to go out and get anything new-ish lately. My buddy says this game is just pure epicness and I believe him (along with all the vids and reviews i have read). I really do owe it to myself to bite the bullet and get this game. I want to play it and find out the details about the clickers.
@darth Check this documentary out on Cordyceps first before playing the game: http://www.youtube.com/watc... Oh and don't watch any more gameplay videos. The Last of Us' premise is based on this, real life phenomenon! Still sends chills down my spine.
Enjoy darth. Fortunately it's a single player game primarily so there's no expiry on its core objective. Just like you can still pick up and enjoy titles like shadow of the colossus, you can still enjoy this. Have fun
@Hatsune-Miku Not gonna happen. I loved the last of us, it was awsome, but it failed to beat Halo 4, the worst halo created. Not a large enough following to beat halo 3
Can Someone say Sequel :D
Can't wait for TLOU 2 on the PS4!
@darth: i was on the same page as you (ps1/psp) and didnt play it right away bc of that, too. i only played it december/jan.. my advice to you, bc if you enjoy retro just as much as i do (or even more.. impossible tho. jk ;), is to put them down for a sec. and play this. its a dream come true as far as atmosphere go. the level of detail and gameplay is something i would expect from a ps4 game. the story is a whole different beast.
melvin....su. dont hate congragulate...if you gunna compare compare to a game thats new...like as in new ip.
Vgchartz doesn't track online game sales...
Great game, great reception and great sales! Congrats ND and Sony!
I thought PS fans didn't support first party titles eh? PS titles always have long legs and continue to sell long after they should have stopped. Awesome numbers for such an amazing and worthy game.
Amazing how a new IP at the end of last generation was able to prove that it can be successful. This just shows everyone make a good game and people will flock to it no matter if it's a new IP, an exclusive, a certain period of time etc. People will buy quality. I'm happy it was a commercial success. This gets me more excited for new IP's. I want new characters to clench on to.
The fact that it is a new IP on one console is huge.
Well deserved... it's one of my favorite games of last gen... Really enjoyed that game.. Even the DLC they just came out with was awesome... One of the best games I've ever played. -(I hope we get a Part 2 on PS4, man that would be awesome..) .____........___... .____||......||.......|___|| ||.........___||............ ||
Microsoft take notes please. And by "take notes" I don't specifically mean pump out more sequels, prequels, spinoffs from your original IPs.
Now who said first party games don't sell. Suck it fanboys I want a The Last Of Us 2 tomorrow on PS4 ND!!!!
does anyone know if this includes digital sales. I have not read the article, at work.
Well done ND.You guys have the highest awarded game in history. http://i.imgur.com/JSBTl.gi... http://img.pandawhale.com/9...
For a new IP released that late into the console life span, that's amazing.
It's an OK figure. 10 million would be a magic mark but Playstation has so many games that it might sometimes harm itself. I mean, did Resistance need to become a series when there's Killzone? A problem is that sequels don't necessarily sell better. Look at Max Payne 2. But I guess Remedy didn't have Naughty Dog's history of games behind them to guarantee sequel sales.
Tomb Raider (2013) sold 6 million copies across multiple devices, is an established ip, is the best selling out of its ip, is deemed profitable and successful. The Last of Us managed to sell the same amount on 1 console in less time. It's not just "OK", it's impressive imo. I also have no clue what your even trying to say in the rest of your comment. Sony shouldn't want a sequel to the game because they have too many franchises and it didn't sell YOUR benchmark of 10 million? Then you give a fairly out of date example, that's not really comparable to the Last of Us for various reasons, for why a sequel may not sell.
At the very least you should spell your name backwards as it closer representation of what you do. Nicpic.
"""It's an OK figure""" Geezzuus! Only a few titles hit 10 million units exclusively. GT and halo come to mind. 6 million units sold is an outstanding number of units especially for an exclusive. Do you know how many developers want to hit 2 million units sold nonetheless 6 million.
I..don't even..what..what is this ?
...What? Since when 10 million a magical number...? It sold well. Give credit where it's due.
6 million is a lot. Red dead and Arkham City sold the same or less amount on ps3.
glad to hear,most definately deserved
This game should be over 10 million.
Over 9 million?
OVER NINE THOUSAND THOUSAAAAAAAND!!!!!
There are How many PS3 owners out there? and only 6 million have experienced this amazing game?! Shame on those others.
im disappointed that I haven't got this game yet, but I am definitely getting this fo sho
More than that. See people are still allowed to borrow......the right somebody tried to groom us into giving up. I borrowed it to a mate plus my nephew played it at mine before I lent it out. More than 6 million people have experienced the greatness of the last of us @shivvy, there's no rush unless you're into multiplayer. If not then this game has longevity. I think it will still be relevant for years to come
I get 43 disagrees for my view is that 6 million is an OK figure (for such a great game) You get 34 agrees and no disagrees for saying pretty much exactly the same thing as me- that it would be right for this game to get closer to 10 million sales. You just said it in a different way. Did people honestly think that my use of the word 'OK' was meant to imply that ND had somehow failed in not getting the higher sales figures that I think it deserved? Donkey Kong Country- about 8 million sales. Goldeneye- about 10 million sales. These were exclusives just like The Last of Us is. Now some might say (well they don't- they vote but they don't tend to say) 'But Donkey Kong was already a well known figure. James Bond was a well known character and Goldeneye was a well known film'. But they forget that Goldeneye could have sold far less successfully as a result of the game being delayed for a whole 2 years after the film had been released. You can't logically disagree with the main point I made and yet agree with TheFallenAngel. If you do, you're sying '6 million is brilliant. 10 million is SUPER brilliant'. You start sounding like a child. Or do you think that it deserved no more than 6 million sales? In a world of 6 BILLION people?
you think this can hit 10?
. I definitely wouldn't mind if there would be a PS4 version + 1080p & 60 fps / locked 30 fps at least.
I would so buy it again just to see it get the Tombraider treatment.
Petition!!!! im so up for this
I don't know why and I hate TR Definitive Edition so much but I'm so up for this! bring on the TLoU Clicker's Edition on PS4, SONY!
Agreed. My fatboy PS3 died on me before the game came out so I would be inclined to pick it up for my PS4.
Holy crap, seriously? I knew it did amazingly well, but I didn't expect that. A new IP, late in the gen, and rated R. Those things are usually poison for sales. Such is the sheer quality of the game. It will likely be remembered as the game of the year, game of the gen, and one of the best games of all time.
It sold 4.5 million in 3 weeks after launch so I wasn't surprised that it soared past 6 million. Compare that to Tomb Raider which launched in March last year and recently on PS4 and XBO and just crossed 6 million units across 5 platforms! Last of Us cleared it in less time and on one platform while being on One platform! Impressive! :)
Not to mention that it's not a game based solely on Multiplayer. Glad to know that a solid Single Player Campaign can still produce these kinds of sales results. Thank you gamers that were still interested in strong SP experiences.
Very well deserved for a masterpiece of a game BUT where's the love for the multiplayer? Very underrated... till this day I play TLOU online and believe it or not theres lots of people on playing as well. Very easy to find a match full of people. It was well thought out, not something just tacked on. Anyways congrats naughty dog.
Great news for Sony. 6 million + sold definitely guarantees at least one sequel for that amazing game. Cant wait. :)
Not surprised at all
playing tlou and went to pick up uncharted 3 again for $10 bucks cause of the free dlc map packs man Im having a blast! encouraged everbody to give both games a try two masterpieces.
In all honesty, i believe naughty dog are THE best devs Sony have had and by far THE best devs on console during the PS3 era.
Not too bad for a new IP being released only on one platform.
Game of the generation ! The most awarded video game in history and arguably a classic to go right next to the greats like 007 golden eye, Zelda ocarina of time, FF7,etc. Great job sony and fantastic job ND Pfffft and I remember playing crash bandicoot as a kid who would of thought they go from crash to the last of us
boggles my mind aswell. does anyone know if their are any original members of the team from those days?
The sales are amazing. It took about 4 years to make it, unfortunately we can expect TLOU 2 2018. With uncharted 4 late or mid 2015. Hopefully we get a ps4 version tho
Awesome and well deserved! However as appealing as a sequel might be I'm hoping for another new IP as good as this one was. Is that too much pressure lol :)
Wow Sony has struck GOLD with Naughty Dog!!!! Amazing games with great sales congrats!!!!
Well deserved! One of the best action survival games of all time.
This deserves it its pure brilliance :-D
I want naughty dog to earn more money to make more high quality AAA titles in the future.
Hold up, I thought Playstation fans didn't buy games!? And although I'll be met with the usual response of, "but there are over 80 million PS3's out there!", I'll then reply with, "We're talking about a brand new IP here!". Anyway well played Naughty Dog and, Sony! It is definitely a title that deserves the recognition and praise! But Naughty Dog it's now time for you to come home where you belong on the PS4, Sony left the keys under the mat, at the front door.
Awesome games deserve awesome sales.....way'd go Naughty Dog :)
I never heard so many people say it was the best game they've ever played.
That's all? Most ps3 owners never played it then
Surely that's true of any individual game ? Most PS3 owners never played COD Most Xbox owners never played Gears Of War Most Wii Owners never played Resi 4
Unfortunately a lot of people probably got it used at a game store or craigslist, which takes away from their overall sales. I'm not hating on used games or anything, I do the same thing sometimes, $60 is a lot of freaking money pay for something that might be crap. I just think this game deserves more respect than that. I pre-ordered it though, I always pre-order games that I want to support. The ones I feel are 'special' or worth it. Hell, if I get a game used and really like it a lot, I'll take the used copy back to the game store and buy the retail version just to support the makers of it. I also pre-ordered Infamous SS, Destiny, and The Order: 1886. Damn it's a good time to be a gamer :)
