Wildstar is an upcoming MMORPG from Carbine Studios that was originally scheduled for a 2013 release, but was pushed back to 2014 due to delays. The game is however progressing along nicely, with a closed beta happening as we speak.
This game does look exciting and is a break away from many of the mmo tropes. It is funny though, as I play DCUO, how ppl gush at the combat system, the lack of auto casting, and the choice of powers, as its been done to before, smoother and slicker i might add. What I do like is the 40 man raids and dynamic dungeons...with public events (which have become standard). It looks solid to say the least and may play spoiler to many grand entrances this year.
I just cannot get excited for this game. I am so tired of the generic MMO model at this point. A change here and a change there to the formula is not enough to do anything for me.
damn you must hate gaming period because hardly anything changed in every genre you can think of.
No, not really. MMO's seem to have taken "borrowing" to a whole different level than pretty much every other genre out there...which is saying a lot given how stagnant the industry is in general.
You do know what the "mmo" mean right? That's why they're different types of MMOs . This is a mmorpg. And fps takes the cake. In the mp fps turns into RPGs when you think about stats, lvl, upgrades, etc. Last gen all they did was incorporate gameplay elements from different genres. I can't think of one thing that fps or any shooter did new that wasn't barrowed from a different genre. If you Dont like or getting bored with mmorpgs say it, but Dont act like other genres are doing things that's new. @rumb I thought its going to have the flex thing like eve. Where you could trade in game currency that you earn to pay for sub. I love how eve do it . The more you love and invested in the game, you have the game pay for itself so to speak.
I'm not acting like that... I DID mention how stagnant the industry is, and yes, I would agree that FPS's are ridiculously derivative as well. And yes, I was talking about MMORPG's, but I'm fairly certain you have the mental capacity to have deduced that. I thought I was fairly clear in my response, but I hope this helped.
I couldn't get into it during the beta. PvP seemed like a crazy zerg fest, the comedy found on the official site and dev diaries is nearly non-existent, the character models look and feel like they should be at least twice as big as they are, and the rest of the world seems way too big. The only time I laughed was when I hit level 8 and a voice-said, "Oh, SH[bleep]T! YOU just leveled UP!" It has its moments and I enjoyed what I played, but not enough to buy and sub. And no, I don't think it should be free-to-play.
I loved my time in the beta weekends and will defo be pre-ordering and subbing, it's only the second mmo I have ever enjoyed and so I'm pretty excited. The combat is where it truly shines especially with my stalker, it really does make wow feel very archaic.
