Nintendo Needs Its Own “Disney Renaissance”

Gamers-association: "Nintendo started out of a character factory. But they now rely too heavily on these established, beloved characters. Disney could probably make new Mickey and Minnie movies constantly, but no, they brings us new IPs and we love them for it. In the last two years we were given Frozen and Wreck It Ralph. Disney is still a character factory, but Nintendo has become a character warehouse. Just storing their characters until they decide to go get them for a new game. I think Nintendo needs to go back to being a character factory."

This actually makes sense. What new IP has Nintendo created lately? Pikmin is the only thing that comes to mind.

BitbyDeath1734d ago

Hopefully they'll start talking acquisitions soon. Ninty should keep doing what they're doing but added studios could then bring new IPs.

They certainly have the money to do so.

Wonderful 101, Wii Fitness, Geist, Animal Crossing, X, Sin & Punishment and a bunch of others I'm not fussed to name.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory1734d ago (Edited 1734d ago )

Xenoblade and X
The Last Story
Pandora's Tower
Endless Ocean
Steel Diver
Dillon Rolling Wesern
The Wonderful 101
Sakura Samurai
Disaster Day of Crisis
Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem
Wii Series
Hotel Dusk
Elite Beat Agent
Need I list more

No one pays any attention to Nintendo when comes to new IP. Because the same excuse surface. When new IP comes where Zelda where Mario where Star Fox. But when returning IP do come where the new IP. Nintendo stop rehashing the same games.

"Nintendo stop rehashing the same games."
This isn't my own words by the way. It an example of blind people.

That be a good point except a huge difference between Disney and Nintendo is that Disney can take almost an public domain story and make it theirs. The little mermaid, snow white, Tarzan, even Frozen were all public domain fairy tales or stories of some sort from Han Christian Andersen or the brothers Grimm or whatever source they took an adaptation from.

Nintendo has created all there characters from scratch while the games were influenced by something in pop culture like Metroid has a lot of influences from Alien.

Reeze1734d ago

Imagine if Nintendo took inspiration from old tales... That would be really neat!

I guess the difference is that Disney is an American country and takes its influence mostly from European folk tales, while Nintendo is Japanese.

Lot's of Disney parallels.

Makes sense for them. New IP's, new spins on existing and dormant franchises. Nintendo could use that.

Why do people always ask what new IP's have Nintendo created recently, then when people go on to list games they just get ignored! OK so Nintendo hasn't created their next Mario, Zelda or Pokemon level franchise. But then again no other companies have created anything with this lasting appeal either. Nintendo just needs to find their Pixar in the gaming industry. The fact that they are now open to Mergers and Acquisitions, is a great time for them to pick up some studios that truly complement the games that they don't do well.
