Thank god for the internet... can't imagine what some of these games would play like without the ability to patch. I'm not directly referring to whatever the Infamous patch will do sense I have no idea, but games like BF4, Skyrim, and countless others that needed patches in order to even make parts of the game playable... again very thankful for the internet.

pedrof933687d ago

What ? What about the 80's, 90's and the early 2000's ? Was there online patches ? Back then bugs were cool.

GarrusVakarian3687d ago (Edited 3687d ago )

Anyone have any idea what the day 1 patch is for specifically?

Cant wait for this game! This is the first game so far this gen that has made me this hyped.

curtis923687d ago

Maybe because games are about 10,000 times more complex nowadays than they were?

ZodTheRipper3687d ago

I don't like Day1 patches but I guess we live at a time where this became the standard. So if a developer words it like this:
"I highly, highly recommend people pick it up. The improvements and other things inside of it are well worth the time to download it."

I'm actually looking forward to the game even more. I trust Sucker Punch that the reason for the patch is more "polishing" rather than "fixing" (like it was for BF4 for example).

badz1493687d ago

day 1 patches just mean that they have to ship the game early due to datelines before all the polishing job done! it's the same as shipping unfinished games and thank god these patches are free and it doesn't hurt so bad! I swear to god if one day if game patches cost some money or only come in the form of paid DLC, I'll stop gaming for good!

andrewsqual3687d ago

Yeah because game breaking glitches back then weren't a nuisance.

Why are you praising the internet for the ability to patch games? If developers / publishers didn't have the ability to patch games via the internet, then they would be a LOT more proactive about preventing these bugs / glitches / gameplay problems. So the thing you're praising is also the thing that, in theory, is also causing a need for patches to happen.

Abriael3687d ago

Actually when developers didn't have the ability to patch games, they just apologized for the bugs (that were there, and were aplenty) and move on, while we had to work around them.

pedrof933687d ago

Well I believe that these patches are somehow a kind of stealth DRM ? No ?

fonger083687d ago

I understand games have grown leaps and bounds in complexity since the dawning of the internet connected console became common and I would not dare assume a developer is being lazy when shipping a game out that might have bugs. I’m simply saying that the internet connection gives developers a hell of a lot more freedom to do more, knowing they can fix it later. Is that always the right approach? No, but it also gives us as the consumer a little bit of ease of mind knowing they can fix, improve, or change things after the fact. If a game had bugs or crashes in the 1980s or 90s, we were often screwed out of $50, $60 dollars.

OrangePowerz3687d ago (Edited 3687d ago )

Well there are several Wii games that had bugs that broke save games or prevent the player from progressing and people had to send in their disc to get a replacement with the problem fixed. There are always bugs no matter how hard and long they work on it. In that regard it's better to have the ability to patch if necessary.

After a game goes gold the developers find more bugs and patch as many as possible before release. Hence why day one patches exist OP.

oODEADPOOLOo3687d ago (Edited 3687d ago )

Day one patch for a PS4 exclusive and ppl forget how much they hate the practice. Man as much as I like Playstation stuff i'm not kissing ass like that. Have fun smelling it too, just don't forget to avoid picking up hair in your tongue.

liquidhalos3687d ago

Well that's tasteless and unnecessary

oODEADPOOLOo3687d ago (Edited 3687d ago )

@ liquid LOL sorry I needed to emphasize the point, and since this site is crazy anyway I thought it would fit in well.

oODEADPOOLOo3687d ago (Edited 3687d ago )

Also IDK if you noticed, but most of content and comments on this site are tasteless and unnecessary anyway(Flamebait, rumor tweets, obvious comments used to pander for votes by the top commenters who show up to seemingly every article on the site, etc..). Should be checking up on them too.

MysticStrummer3687d ago

IDK if you noticed, but when any game on any console gets a day one patch, some people care and some don't, just like every other issue on the planet. Stop implying that one group is the only one that does something and you might make more sense.

Also, if you won't stand for day one patches then I guess you'd better find a new hobby because they are the norm now and have been for at least a few years.

lemoncake3687d ago

And on that day it was realised that all those people screaming at microsoft about needing an internet connection they didnt have... went online with their consoles and downloaded this patch.

WeAreLegion3687d ago

...that isn't necessary to actually play the game.

Ratty3687d ago

Almost every game nowadays has a day one patch. How does that compare with not being able to play a console offline?

Besides, even if you have an unstable connection you can still download a patch. And guess what: even if you don't have an internet connection at all you can still play the game ;p

Your move.

lsujester3687d ago

Even past that, you could borrow someone's internet and with a USB key you have patched your game.

Hicken3687d ago

And on this day you realized that an optional patch isn't the same as a mandatory internet connection.

... who am I kidding?

MRMagoo1233687d ago

Some people should really think hard before they type out a sentence, it would save time and also make them seem a lot less stupid.

There is a good quote I think is appropriate here "light travels faster than sound, this is why some people seem bright until they speak".

MysticStrummer3687d ago

And on that day, lemoncake of N4G was schooled.

Why does every game have a day one patch? I hate having terrible internet (0.25)Download

DeadMansHand3687d ago (Edited 3687d ago )

Go to a kinkos and download it to a usb.

Summons753687d ago

Remember when people use to condemn devs who couldn't put out a finished and do a day one patch?

I do and I still dislike it.. good thing inFAMOUS was always on my never buy list.

OrangePowerz3687d ago (Edited 3687d ago )

It's a 300MB patch so I doubt it would do much.

By now we are at a point where not having a day one patch would be surprising.

snake91823687d ago

You were never going to get Infamous, and yet here you are on an article relating to Infamous.

OT: I wonder what the patch is for if its well worth the download.

Summons753687d ago

Yup, nice thing about PUBLIC FORUMS is that I can express my OPINION.

Sorry, you can't handle the fact someone's is different than yours. It's a mediocre game with a poor storyline and some decent too okay gameplay. It's not the worst game ever but it's nothing to get all hot and bothered over like some of the fanboys here.

IndianaBonez423687d ago

@Summon
WHy the fuck are you here hating on infamous in an infamous article? You care enough about the game to comment about it that's for sure.

snake91823687d ago

@Summons
Yes it is your opinion and these are public forums, however it doesn't make sense to come on and comment on an article relating to a game that you will never buy. You don't see me going over to a Titanfall article and calling it "COD with mecs" just cause I don't want the game ( I do think it is a somewhat innovative game it is just not my cup of tea).

fenome3687d ago (Edited 3687d ago )

Oh, cool, so you've obviously played it since " It's a mediocre game with a poor storyline and some decent too okay gameplay."

You obviously know more about it than the people who are actually interested in it. No, wait, those are just your preconceived notions stated as fact. I'll be the judge of the story and gameplay when I actually play the game, ya know? That's how that works.

OT:

I'll find out soon enough for myself, I've got doorstop delivery on launch. Opinions are opinions, but critiquing gameplay and story before anybody even knows? Really??

Meltic3687d ago

No problem for me a patch. Just good !. A perfect game without problems with a first day patch. Hurraaa for suckerpunch !.

How Does inFAMOUS Second Son Hold up 10 Years Later?

inFAMOUS Second Son was one of PS4's best exclusives, but does it hold up a decade later?

100%, locked 60fps and still look great all these years later, same with the expansion, definitely worth a look if people haven't played it yet, not the best games ever made but a good experience, hopefully a new infamous gets released

KwietStorm_BLM94d ago

Never was my favorite infamous, but it was definitely a graphics showcase early on PS4. Still plays well with the unlocked frame rate.

SDuck94d ago

Still remember getting hyped about this game nearing release. Funny because I never even got a PS4. Jumped from PS3 to PC so I never played it ahahaha

OmegaSoldati94d ago

Its a good game. But thats it. Congratulations you made the best choice. I dream to have a great PC one day.

Profchaos94d ago (Edited 94d ago )

Graphically It's a absolutely stunning game that still holds up today.

Didn't have all that much depth to it forcing you to play though twice for a platinum trophy a good and bad run it was a little disappointing how similar those were Delsin would be like I'm not doing that for you in a cutscene but the cutscene would play out and force you to do it anyway just as you would of in a good run

I did like the story however it got a lot of complaints back in the day people hated playing as Delsin instead of cole despite Coles story being wrapped up.

Overall though the map wasn't overly saturated with useless points of interest there was some collectibles and things to find but nothing compared to a Ubisoft game.

I think it was a good game if a little hollow I've played it through around 4 times now since it's so short.

Also it's DLC was great a full story expansion

I've played 15, and I wouldn't consider any of those underrated TBH. Some of them are pretty high rated.

banger88126d ago

That's amazing, Gamingbolt actually put all 15 games on the same page.

shinoff2183125d ago

I. Not seeing anything on that list underrated. I never played concrete genie, the ASTRO vr,and one other but I forgot the name already. Nothing on there was underrated at all imo.

persona4chie124d ago

There’s only 4 of those games I never played, and no most of those aren’t underrated.
