Release Date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – An Open Letter

CD Projekt writes: "We recently reexamined what we had achieved thus far, and faced a choice about the game’s final release date. The decision we made was difficult, thoroughly considered, and ultimately clear and obvious. We could have released the game towards the end of this year as we had initially planned. Yet we concluded that a few additional months will let us achieve the quality that will satisfy us, the quality gamers expect from us. Consequently, we have set the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for February 2015."

2015?!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

But i gotta respect them for apologising and saying that they want to give us a better quality game, im sure it will be better off in the end because of this delay.

I'm not going to lie though, im disappointed. This was one of my most anticipated games of 2014.

sobotz3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

I'm crying inside.

For god's sake seriously, this is my main reason to buy next-gen early (I'm a college student).

So much for the most anticipated game this year.. well, I guess at least I know next year is gonna be a good year with this and The Phantom Pain.

ZodTheRipper3696d ago

Sad ...but I want this game to be more than good and if a delay is needed to make that happen I'm okay with it.

Captain Qwark 93695d ago

this and dragon age were also the games i was waiting for before i got the next gen.....but honestly i didnt think it was coming this year anyway. too big, too high quality of an rpg. rpg games take time thats why you rarely see any within the first year of a new console

mewhy323695d ago

what is the resolution and fps of this game?

Flipgeneral3695d ago

^^^

Cant tell if its a troll or...

Lord_Sloth3695d ago

I am indeed upset by this but there are other games to occupy ourselves with till then.

I'd rather they launch a completed and fantastic product than rush it even if the wait will suck.

Ashunderfire863695d ago

Hey at least we get to play Dark Souls 2 this year, so it's not that bad. Let these guys finish their game. That also means that Cyberpunk 2077 is coming out 2016 then.

ThanatosDMC3695d ago

Here's to hoping we wont be gimped because of the weaker console.

BABY-JEDI3695d ago

You should be happy. This gives you more study time.

See. Smiley face.
Me. I'm crying like a baby

webeblazing3695d ago

@mewhy32
LMAO. they maybe like, lets make sure it 1080p@60fps, if not these kids is gonna kill us.

UltraNova3695d ago

Now that's how you address your fans and customers with some sincere explanations and respect on why you are changing something!

Hat's off to CD Projekt

RedDevils3695d ago

Christopher3696d ago

With DirectX12 coming out, I would expect more delays of major titles like this that were targeting late 2014 and had a focus on graphics in addition to other elements.

Ricegum3695d ago

I really don't think this is about Direct X12 LOL.

MorePowerOfGreen3695d ago (Edited 3695d ago )

Although you ban me a lot I actually agree with this, doesn't happen very often. I've been thinking and saying this for several weeks now. Started thinking this when SDK update rumors started sounding legit and *The Division* being delayed. I'm assuming only the 1st party games have evolved with the new tech/tools. Heck I had the feeling with Watchdogs delay.

Some devs might not want to burn bridges due to weak XB1 dev kits and simply delayed their games to use the latest and greatest.

EDIT

I forgot to add.

So many delays of games on PC and XB1 having poor dev kits. There is something there.

DoesUs3695d ago

DX has nothing to do with it. You really think they want to miss Xmas because of DX12?

RedDevils3695d ago (Edited 3695d ago )

DX12?? What a load of rubbish. People should stop buying into those stupid hype like they've added another high end graphic card lol

Palitera3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

Yup.

I just hope Destiny doesn't get delayed. After inFAMOUS and Titanfall, I think it's the only game left for me this year. (and MAYBE Watch Dogs...)

joab7773695d ago

I love CD Project Red and this IS my MOST anticipated game...but I'm calling B.S. This has nothing to do with delivering the best possible game. They will already do that.

How do they know in March that they need 2 more months to make it a better game? No. What they do know is that in between November and February, 2 things happen...Christmas and taxes. The install base will grow tremendously. This has been a pattern for big releases recently from Mass Effect 3 to Bioshock Infinite.

That being said, I dont fault them. I want them to make money. They were brave enough to make a next gen only game. Maybe by then, there will b 15-20 million next gen consoles sold.

jessupj3695d ago

I think you're right, but if it means CD Project have more funds to take more risks and use more resources to make more amazing games, than I can wait an extra 2 months.

Just 11 more months....

Irishguy953695d ago

Crushed my soul a little bit :(

Str8Chaos743695d ago

Same here Lukas, but hey, at least they are dedicated to gamers and having a quality product. Can't fault that.

starchild3695d ago (Edited 3695d ago )

This really is a disappointment. This was my absolute most anticipated game of 2014.

However, even if it is disappointing I can never fault a developer for making such a decision for the good of their game. CD Projekt RED always bring the quality, so I trust that they will put the time to good use.

Oh well, waiting until late 2014 was already going to be painful. What's a few more months eh? I always have Dragon Age Inquisition and other games to keep me busy. At least I hope Dragon Age Inquisition makes it out this year.

showtimefolks3695d ago

Watch dogs
Drive club
now witcher 3

i don't mind delays at all because all 3 developers are known for Quality products so here is hoping all 3 games end up being great

T23695d ago

true but I find it a bit odd, considering the pc architecture of the new consoles, why so many delays? I guess it just happens in the games industry.

ObiWanaTokie3695d ago

Props finally to a dev that actually cares! *wild loud crowd applause*

Thatlalala3695d ago

I support delays, with so much to play right now, id rather get a quality product the devs are proud of, instead of a yearly release pushed out because it had to make its "deadline".

Hellsvacancy3695d ago (Edited 3695d ago )

So in other words it wont look as good as the last E3 trailer

Delayed + extra polish = downgraded game

I'm kind of being sarcastic, i'm only going by Ubisofts way of doing things, I sooooo hope it doesn't apply to The Witcher 3

Looks like I won't be buying a PS4 until 2015

cyguration3695d ago

Not sure why they disagreed, but people honestly think this game isn't being downgraded on consoles?

Quit drinking the kool-aid people! This will look like gold on PC and will probably be 720p @ 30fps on XB1.

thejigisup3695d ago

@cyguration
you mean 792p

DaGR8JIBRALTAR3695d ago

yep...respect due. I want the very best they can deliver and for that I'll wait.

AceBlazer133695d ago

Watch Dogs, DriveClub now this. I'm choosing the wrong games to look forward to.

The gen of delays and what should've been delayed.

Take all the time you need.

Mariusmssj3696d ago

I honestly don't mind how long they take, if they can deliver on what they promised than it will a truly amazing game.

nero20823696d ago

Good things come to those who wait.

Thatlalala3695d ago

Duke Nukem was also passed around like your mom.

ObiWanaTokie3695d ago

@thatlalala personal attack much? grow up man

SamPao3695d ago

this delay just builds on the sympathy I have for this studio!
good decision and a DayOne Buyer more

DarkEnergy3696d ago

Awwww man.....this is looks like the Delay Gen. Still really can't wait for this game tho!

GarrusVakarian3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

Delay gen is better than a half finished gen.

Palitera3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

It also shows that they're not being able to deal with the production accordingly. It is sign of great production managing problems...

MadLad3696d ago

At least there are many other solid RPG's to look forward to this year. Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity, Dragon Age, etc.
Still though, that was the release for me this year. A bit upsetting, but it should just make for that much better a game once it drops.
I was going to write a quick article about this, seeing as how their PR just sent word via an e-mail, but it seems I was beaten by the source itself.

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave17d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan17d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

Abe’s Odyssey
FF6
King of Fighters 94

Street Fighter 2

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name41d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno41d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno41d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure41d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
