The Great 'Titanfall' Debate: Do Multiplayer Shooters Need Single Player Campaigns?

While Titanfall does have a “campaign” of sorts, it’s really just a slightly altered form of multiplayer. It’s the same maps with longer story-ish briefings and most players will only want to complete these “missions” to unlock extra Titan chassis.

But there is no “true” single player campaign, which can be seen as a move forward for the genre, or a step backward.

No!. I've been saying this for years. Sell me Halo without the story just add 23 or maps to play on day one not as dlc and I'll pay $40 for it. I think companies can make more of a $40 purchase vs $60

No. I don't own the game and am dying to play. Online only is just that. If you don'yt like it don't buy it.

This is a great debate? Okay, I'll settle it.

Anything else?

I think brand new ip's would benefit from it. Give the game a connection with the players. Look at Halo good connections made with players and the mp will follow.
Is it necessary probably not as long as the mp is engaging. Very few have been able to do what titanfall did.
Hell most people remember the mission
All ghillied'up from Modern Warfare
The rest is history.

No, however when you only provide multiplayer, the developers shouldn't expect us to pay a lot for for additional maps + dlc.
